Mini Talkthrough of My Thought Process

I will put this here because I don’t want my irls to see this, but regardless of what the poll says, I think I want to go to Berkeley. The housing and higher tuition are definitely caveats, but my parents said they are 100% willing to pay the entirety of my tuition and future apartment rent if I go (I know they want me to go there anyways since it's closer to home anyways). I don’t want to burden them though since Bay Area housing sucks ass and I’ll definitely try to do a work study while I’m in school to help pay somehow. As for area safety, I’ve grown up in a place with similar crime rates and situation to Cal so I honestly don’t think I’m too worried about it. And I really like it there: the opportunities, the city, being closer to my friends from high school and my family, and it was my dream school when I was younger (I didn’t have a dream school when I applied because I wanted to prepare myself for rejection).

My only real issue with it is the work culture. Every single tiktok or person I talk to says that Berkeley’s work culture and competitiveness are so toxic (I’m fairly certain that’s a thing at so many Bay Area schools atp because the high schools are like that too). It’s to be expected, and it’s not like I picked an easy major either. But I feel like I’m psyching myself out of going before I even commit because I’m afraid that I won’t be able to keep up with the rigor. I’ve practically coasted through high school, and although I think my study and work habits are solid, I know college in general is an entirely different beast.

it’s been over a year since I’ve logged into this blog and 3ish years since I posted this, but to whoever is struggling with college acceptances or worried about college in general, let me just tell you to enjoy your time in high school and don’t just spend your time worrying about the future. Of course education is important, I won’t lie about that, but never put it before your mental health or general happiness
