Probably an unpopular opinion considering the whole M4 situation in the fandom, but I really feel bad for Subaru in EP99. He obviously wanted to confess before saying goodbye to Yume but changed his mind in the last second and decided to play his usual character, probably understanding that his feelings would never be returned back. Moreover, their last scene together was at the place where they first met in S1…
Of course, it’s not Yume’s fault that she’s focused on Aikatsu to notice his feelings for her. Still, it was hard for me to see him that sad…
I would love to see a darker version of Aikatsu, sort of like how Pretty Rhythm: Rainbow Live had a quite dark story and very diverse characters with diverse stories. I would love to see more expansion with a lot of the characters, instead of self contained arcs of family and friendship, I wanna see more mature themes like what stress really does to a person and how psychological are the effects of close friends/loved ones on characters. We saw glimpses with Yozora and Mahiru where their rivalry actually drew them quite apart.
Then we have Elza and her mom, that story was quite dark because of how Elza's ambition was ultimately leading to her destruction.
I don't want a story that has a Yandere or a tsundere type trope, I want to see these characters, revisited in their high school years and expanded on. I want to see my children grow older, fall in love, decide things for themselves, eventually studying, choosing to go to university or working. I just want to see more than their teenage years and I don't think that is a tall order; but in that light I doubt the creators of Aikatsu plan to do another Aikatsu Stars! for the foreseeable future.
However with the growing changes in anime's being released, reboots being done, sequels finally being made, perhaps it might happen. However for the Idol genre I doubt it ever will.
