I just notice I hadn’t shared my short clip of the RSA brief. Here it is. I had originally had another idea that was too literal and changed the whole lot hence why I ran outta time. Would really love to have finished this on time. The whole idea is this machine, representing our social, economical and political world.

UPDATE! 07/01/2018 So this is no longer a valid animatic as I scrapped pretty much all of it. It was too literal. 

For the What’s Story.

Quite possibly the world’s roughest animatic! Made by chopping up my equally rough storyboard! Here it is anyway, even in its minimalism, it is helping me a lot with timing, and pointing out some problems with the narrative.

UPDATE! 07/01/2018 I managed to finish the storyboard for Barry, will be uploaded shortly. 

Barry has been helping us and providing support with our RSA awards brief but we had time before that for a storyboard challenge that I really wish I could actually turn into an animation or film! I didn’t get to do the whole thing but put a lot of thought into what manage to complete.

My friend Rod Gallivan worked for a number of years for the Limerick Post as a photographer and as such had accumulated a number of incredible stories and anecdotes.

There were three true stories of his that I was taken with. My favourite thought was the one where he met Alderman John Gilligan who had managed to raise headstones on the graves of the Magdalene Girls, that originally only had curb stones. A very powerful and important part of Irish history and particularly close to our college as it used to be the Good Shepherd laundry.  

I recorded Rod as a quick draft the first time we met. This gave me an exact timing so I could rewrite the script, which I did. I then brought in Rod to record him in the studio.

Self and Rod also went around Mount St Laurence in Mulgraves to visit the graves and take a few photos, which are above.

This is in reference to Alan’s Concept design brief.

I pulled out an old character Idea for this brief. Clara is a creepy doll propped on half of an office chair with swivel wheels thus making her mobile.

Originally, I was looking at placing her in a more traditional environment. Self and Alan even discussed putting her in an old dilapidated factory, I instantly thought of Wedgewood's!  

In the end, I thought to what I personally find intriguing without giving too much away. I really like the aesthetic of having something or a silhouette in the foreground, maybe dark, it automatically draws the viewer in the story rather than spectate, and adds mystery. It's also a great plane to add a title or whatever type might be needed.

The idea is pretty simple, to raise awareness of the alternative to single use hot drinks cups. I had so many ideas for this, in the end I went for this one, but just as I finished it I had another two I liked better!

Thinking of using one of my old character idea for Alan’s concept brief. This is Clara, she’s an old doll with half a swivel chair shoved up her ahem... A horror theme idea I had a couple of years ago. All my other projects involve themes of nature so I wanted to do something different for this brief.

Here’s a loop animation I made for the Electric Picnic. It was projected on the sail of the Salty Dog. I’m sharing this because, well I’m just bragging really. 

I used a third party plug in for Ae.
