Just because the yellowjackets fandom is mostly filled with queer women, it doesn't mean that misogyny doesn't affect it!!

People would not hate Shauna Shipman in the same way if she was a man.

If Shauna Shipman was a man people would first praise her complexity, demand an Emmy for Sophie's acting and then the hate would be an afterthought.

And I don't want to hear people say that in season 3 she loses all of her complexity and turns into a cartoon villain because if you take a second to analyse the show you realise that that isn't even right.

I do agree that season 3 was incredibly flawed in it's writing but I believe that Shauna herself stayed relatively well written and that the main issue for her character was that the timeskip made the change in her character from season 2 to 3 very abrupt.

Nevertheless, I distress.

Saying that Shauna lost all of her complexity because she became a really bad person is really stupid to me because don't we have multiple TV shows about male leads becoming bad people or who are bad people and people praise them for their complexity (Breaking Bad) but as soon as women do it it's all like oooooh shessss evilllll I hateeeee herrrrrrr.

I'm not saying you can't hate morraly bankrupt women, I'm just saying that if she were a man people would be more understanding towards them and appreciate their writing more before hating them.

And I'm using Shauna Shipman as my main example because I'm obsessed with yellowjackets but this is not the only fandom to do this.

I'm actually thinking of writing a video essay comparing Shauna to both Walter and Skylar White and their receptions by the fandom.

Because you all want complex female characters but you can't even handle them.
