God, I have so much to say that I don't even know where to start. Well, first of all, I've finished this art.
Secondly, if you haven't seen the previous post, here's a brief summary of this AU.
John and Eliza: Long-lived beings.
I had a spontaneous idea for a story where John and Eliza are childhood friends who must walk hand in hand through the centuries because they share a common love for Alexander and a shared sorrow for him.
I've also been thinking more and more about the relativity of time and its value lately. I've been thinking about a conversation between Alex and John when Laurens was recovering from losing his arm in the war. They were competing in fencing. John had always won their fights, having decades of practice behind him. But this time, Alexander drew the fight to a draw.
Laurens just joked, saying, "Enjoy it while you can. But give me a couple of years, and you won't be able to defeat me."
To which Hamilton retorted, "Give me a couple of months, and you won't be able to break my streak of victories."
Time is on John's side. He has years to practice.
Alexander's side is only unstoppable humanity.
He has been fighting against time in real history trying to leave a legacy. But here it takes on a new level because of how absurdly short human life seems compared to the long-lived. And even so Alexander is doing the unthinkable again. Realizing how little time he has he works even harder and with that he gets Eliza and John to run with him in time.
And Eliza's mission to preserve Alexander's legacy takes on a new depth. She carries his memory through the centuries, emphasizing the value of his life. What about Laurens? I dread to imagine the extent of his crisis after Alexander's death. Don't get me wrong, Eliza is not immune to grief. It's just that she possesses a remarkable power of creation that John unfortunately lacks.
I could talk about them forever, but I think I've said enough for today. Thank you for listening to my ramblings.
