A short excerpt from my book Solus.
I started moving down the tunnel again. Stepping over the bloody pile of clothes. The flashing red light guiding my way. I could still hear the breathing as I went. It was rapid, and it got louder as I kept on moving. The red light flashed again; this time, two wide-open eyes reflected the red light right back at me. This stopped me in my tracks. Darkness once again came over me as the red light went off. I could still hear the breathing. Getting closer and closer. I held my breath, trying not to move. The red light came on again, catching another glimpse of what was ahead of me. The red light reflected off the wet pale skin of the creature. It looked human, and the pale eyes stared back at me. Blood ran down its mouth, and its chest raised and lowed as its breathing quickened. Then red light went off. I could smell the creature, and I heard claws tapping the metal floor. As the red light came back on, I saw its pale human like face, the veins protruding out of its forehead, and I could smell the flesh sticking in its teeth. It crept closer to me, I was frozen and unable to move. It let out a low moan and started to sniff around my legs. The red light went off, and all I could do was stay frozen. Allowing this creature to sniff around my body. I tried to hold my breath, hoping it would just go away. The light came back on and it was staring me dead in the eyes. It tilted its head and reached its long scaly arms up to my face. Its hands were cold. The blood stained its cracked nails. I felt the pressure build in my head as I kept holding my breath. Suddenly, a loud ringing shot through my head. The tunnel turned to darkness again. The ringing stopped, and I let out a loud breath. My head felt dizzy, and my body started to go numb. The red light turned back on, and the creature was gone. “What… What the h…” I couldn’t finish the sentence. Everything went black.
