i showed two of my friends this drawing and they both, in separate calls, said "who the fuck made zoro the map guy?" dw guys voiced navigation is on. or i mean i hope so,,, for their sake.

i retried an old sketch i had kicking around to see how far ive come in a year! modern!au Zoro refs + progress photos under the cut!

hi! i'm avian, an unemployed, newly disabled, and mentally ill transmasc (he/it) who is living in texas with my agender (they/them) and also disabled mother. we have a really shitty roommate right now who is making the house unlivable for me particularly since she has literally spied on me to prove that i was sleeping so she could cook in the middle of the night. in addition to this one of my maternal aunts who i lived with for the last three years of high school stole over $30k of my social security money that i received due to my dad's disability and then survivor's benefits (he had primary progressive ms for most of my life and died of covid in 2020.) i just got out of an inpatient stay at a respite facility due to prolonged self-isolation and extreme stress causing a bit of a mental breakdown (doing much better now in that regard!) me and my mother have been working on trying to move to michigan but we do really need money for moving expenses and whatnot, plus my mom might be losing their job. thanks, please reblog and donate if you can!

the link to the original print from @jeniferprince is here! honestly i thought this was a genuinely older piece, but then when looking up how to credit it properly, i realised its the intentional style of her work which is so cool. been obsessed with her work since!! it was such a fun warm up sketch to break the art block with. ty!!

I'm not Japanese nor do I speak/read it, I just used google translate + a lot of googling and wikipedia to look up japanese sword terminology. I can also read kanji so that helped a bit

Some other random notes if you'd like to reference the original post:

柄巻 (tsuka-maki or tsuka ito, lit. hilt wrap): rope wrapped around the outside of the katana

鐔 (つば)* - tsuba, sword guard; generally a round metal plate with a central wedge shaped hole for the blade and if needed up to two smaller holes for the kozuka or kōgai *note: Oda uses the hiragana when referring to the tsuba

柄 tsuka: The tsuka is the hilt or handle; made of wood and wrapped in samegawa (shark/ray skin).

目貫 menuki, The menuki are the decorative metal ornaments the are woven under the tsuka-ito (handle wrapping). These ornaments were originally made to hide the mekugi pins that secure the tsuka to the tang of the blade

鞘 saya: traditional wooden scabbard

腰差し koshi-zashi: something to be worn on the waist, can specifically refer to swords

丁子乱れ, "clove disorder" choji midare – an irregular hamon pattern resembling cloves, with a round upper part and a narrow constricted lower part.

鮫皮 samegawa: the ray or shark skin wrapping of the tsuka (handle/hilt), is wrapped by the tsuka-ito

頭 kashira: The kashira is the pommel on the end of the tsuka.

鐺 kojiri: The kojiri is the end of the scabbard (saya) or the protective fitting at the end of the scabbard

下げ緒 sageo : The sageo is the cord used to tie saya to the belt/obi when worn.

直刃 suguha: straight temper line (hamon)

乱刃 midareba: irregular temper line (hamon)

刃文 hamon: border between the tempered part of the ha (cutting edge) and the untempered part of the rest of the sword; the temper-line.

unfortunately daydreaming about one piece ocs is my new coping mechanism for dealing with my thesis.

but have the sketches anyway of juno "miss whitehorse" x (enneagram 7 core): lone renegade pirate, throwing herself into vices+modelling pre-timeskip, turns Heart Pirate nurse after her and the HP crew keep mfing crossing paths and it pisses them both off until it doesnt???

one day ill post my writing of her. probably on a separate account bcs im scared lmao. in short she's doflamingos bastard child i shoved onto laws crew to make him suffer

^ (old first-look at her. post-timeskip) + an attempt at colours but the colours are accidentally washed out??? she started off british (everyone i write is british if i'm not careful) but right now she's got more like vendetta (overwatch) accent.

^ young juno and minerva (miss palehorse), found sister/the doctor she answered to before answering to law. she loses her cus one piece sad backstory and its juno's fault in juno's head. part of a 4-group (4 horsemen; mirror of law's group of bepo/shachi/penguin, but i havent designed bellona (miss redhorse, penguin mirror) or diana (miss blackhorse, shachi mirror) yet.)

minerva looked around for new lenses for her. to make her and doflamingo visually similar despite not being raised by him, i made doflamingo's glasses a medical disability from inbreeding/pure bloodline bs of celestial dragons, hence they need the same red lenses.

also have bellona/diana offscreen laughing at young juno for her stupid fucking glasses that they 100% know are medical. v

shes a nurture vs nature character; i gave her the the blood fruit since i figured itd be interesting to have her quite literally grappling with her blood(line).

PSYCH im posting a little bit of my draft for 1st (non-prologue) chapter bcs im on pain meds and i dont feel as scared right now. even if nobody reads any of this, i know it exists, and im teaching myself that its okay for things i make to be for me.

im trying to practice pacing to go with the mood of the scene instead of pacing based off vibes. context: it's the summit war. marineford basically. jinbe, luffy and 3rd party (juno) escaping on the tang.
