My wife’s birthday is next month and I need someone to help me brainstorm what I can get for her. A little bit about her is that she’s perfect and nothing I get her will be good enough. But, okay, for real she’s really into fashion and she likes pink, gold, and silver. She hates doing house stuff, she loves shoes, and listening to new music I’ve never heard of. Help me.

When was the last time you two took a trip together? Maybe you could surprise her with a few days out of town, somewhere she’s always wanted to go. I’ve found that it’s way too easy to get somebody a gift that they don’t like or want, especially when it comes to women’s clothes or jewelry. I don’t think you can go wrong with a romantic vacation.

That’s a very smart idea, and I’m sure everyone would appreciate the day off from shoveling too. Maybe next year. As long as you start with my driveway. Good choice. I’m more of a coffee ice cream kind of person, but I’ve only had maybe one or two flavors that I haven’t loved from them. I would hope not, that sounds fairly unappetizing.

That’s a shame more states can’t follow suit. I don’t see what anyone is gaining by having large pieces of wood telling you to grab a burger or use a certain company. I lived without seeing one my entire life and I don’t think I was missing out on some big American experience. I’m sure they would. There are a lot of things people don’t want to do and are just about all of those things have a price people are happy to pay. You got it. I’ll make sure you’re first on my list. I might even give you a discount. It is hard to go wrong with some coffee ice cream, but I definitely need to be in the mood for it. I promise you I’m not that out of touch with what people do away from the island.

I can’t imagine anyone would be able to say no to you and not kick themselves later. I have no doubt that you can keep up. I have a feeling I might be the one struggling to keep up with you. Well, thank you. I like to think so, though many might not agree. I’m sure you’ll use it against me as often as you can. They were beach weddings, so a suit wasn’t really the most appropriate outfit. We wore nice shorts and light dress shirts. And who’s to say I’m not a gentleman?

They’re way better to be around than my family so I can get behind that.

Yeah, you seem like the city type. The sand and ocean aren’t for everyone. That’s not even close to what I meant and I think you knew that. I hate to disappoint you, but if you’re hitting on me, it’s not going to go very far for either of us. I meant working on my motorcycle or building things. Back home, I was always doing odd jobs for people around their houses. You’d be surprised by how many people don’t know how to fix their own homes. I can’t imagine someone who’s willingly living in New York and Vermont would want to switch it up to a tropical place like Hawaii. The heat isn’t so bad, but I also hate the cold so I’m not the best person to ask. Well, it’s fantastic if you love seafood and fresh pineapple. We’ve also got fantastic pork too. I’ll let you know if I find a place here that comes close. I’m happy to hear that. Everyone deserves a good family, whether it’s the one you’re born into or the one that chose you.

You’re lucky, then. They’re tacky, and unfortunately very real so I’m glad they’re outlawed here. They should just block the beautiful views. Capitalism at its finest, really. I like the snow and the occasional snow day, but I never look forward to shoveling, especially not early in the morning before work. With the risk of sounding cliche, I’m going to say Ben and Jerry’s. Oh, yes, you have to like maple syrup here or everyone will definitely judge you.

Yeah, I guess I am. I have a lot of respect for a state that would outlaw something like that because it blocks the views. Too many only care about money and things that don’t matter. Yeah, it wasn’t the best way to start my day. If I grew up here, I would have turned it into a side hustle and gone around shoveling lawns for lunch money, but I’m not trying to spend more time in the cold than I have to every winter. Not cliche at all. Even I can’t resist the occasional pint of strawberry cheesecake. No need to worry about that. No sane man willingly eats dry pancakes.

Besides the weather and stuff like that. I always got a reason to complain, but mostly just dumb shit. My family is in Arizona but friends are all I need and I got some good ones here.

You only say that because you haven’t seen a Hawaiin ocean yet. I’m the same way, but not from location. I just need to always have my hands on something. Is that a real question? The weather should be enough to answer that, but it was everything: the surf, the community, family, the food. I could go on. Sounds like you’ve found your own family right here then.

Happy to help. Just be sure to let me know before you leave for paradise. I’d hate for you to get sucked into one of the island’s tourist traps. Yeah, I figured as much. It definitely shows. I’ve got a few good outfits for special occasions, but I don’t think you’d be able to pick them out of my closet if I asked you to. Was that not a given? Or is it so cold here that some people leave their sweaters on in a hot tub?

Yeah, but it’s an entirely different ocean, so I don’t know how it compares. I’ve been told the Atlantic is warmer, but I find that real hard to believe right now. Never. This isn’t my dream place to live, but like you said, at least it has a coast. One of those guys, huh? I’m the complete opposite. If I could have stayed in one place my whole life, I would have. Glad you’ve made this place your home, though. As long as you’ve got friends, family, and a roof over your head, you can’t really complain.

Well, now, it’s definitely considered warm out. If it’s still not warm enough for you, I don’t know what to say because I’m far too hot for comfort. Oh, there’s a lot of them. I like the change of the seasons, the scenery, especially since billboards were outlawed years ago and you can actually see the trees and the food is delicious here. I’m rarely disappointed.

It’s definitely much better now, but I know I can only enjoy it for so long before it’ll be taken away from me. And to think I thought 40 degrees was cold. Are billboards actually a thing? I know they’re in movies, but I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen one. I sort of assumed they were just one of those things Hollywood invented. I’ll admit, the snow was beautiful as long as you didn’t stay out in it for too long, but then I had to shovel it and it lost its beauty real quick. What food is your favorite? I’ve tried the maple syrup, and it did live up to everything I expected it to be.

Plan on staying here for a couple of years, I got a lot of friends here now and I still visit the city. Not sure if I’ll ever go back, but who knows.

I mean, that sounds super wholesome or something like that, but it also sounds super exhausting. Laying around watching Netflix is way more enjoyable, even if it’s not like, rewarding. What kind of stuff are you into?

The easiest trick to a good night’s sleep is going to bed exhausted. I don’t know. I like something with a lot of action, not too difficult of a plot to follow along with. If I’m watching a show or movie, I’m doing it to relax, not to use my mind too much.

It’s a horrible marketing strategy. I could say goodbye to all my clients if that happened. I’m like, pretty sure I have some vacation days, maybe that’s where I’ll go. I’m desperate to travel somewhere, I’ve been in the same place too long. Oh, ew, I do not and will never own a Hawaiian shirt. At least not like the traditional ones. Three? Nice. I would love to see them sometime. People tell me that all the time, probably why I don’t have tattoos myself or I would have 50 by now.

I could give you the name of my guy who did my ink in Hawaii. Kill two birds with one stone. You get a vacation and you could be inspired to get that tattoo. I’m sure you’ll easily find something else to wear. You seem like the fashionable type. Maybe you could show me some of those hot tubs and I’ll show you my tattoos.
