FORBIDDEN FRUITS (2026)

its camp
its thriller
its feminine
there are biblical undertones
cute fashion
some people are taking "doomed" to mean "dead". this is actually a misconception! you can be doomed even if you don't die! it's sometimes worse if you don't die!
hate when I type :) and this 🙂 fucker appears. Go away you evil soul
what you have to understand about Forbidden Fruits (2026) is that it is useful to compare it to Jennifers Body and Mean Girls and The Craft in subject matter but it is much more like its contemporary Do Revenge in that it is specifically reacting to 2010s internet politics and pop psychology. both are brilliant and funny and surreal but it is like Duchamp's "Fountain" if it was a buzzfeed article. To initiate a new witch they chant "thigh gap bitch slap"
Lili Reinhart as Apple in Forbidden Fruits (2026) dir. Meredith Alloway
Okay, so Forbidden Fruits is obviously very camp, very satirical, quite silly in places, but I genuinely love that this is at its core a story about lonely women. Like, it is so clear that these people are so alone and that’s why they come together so forcefully and with such toxicity. Cherry has lost her entire family. Fig was the weird girl without friends in high school. Apple is so very, very queer and angry, living out of her car. Pumpkin is trying to move through grief. Like, yes, this movie is wild and wacky and a spiritual successor to Jennifer’s Body, American Psycho, The Craft, Mean Girls—but it’s also weirdly one of the most honest depictions of female relationships I’ve seen in a minute. How easy it is to get obsessed with the first people who seem to see you. How easy it is to fall into the gravity of people who will tell you how to be your best self. How those rules will consume your true identity and replace it with conformity. How you can’t really survive that.

actually i’m gonna make my own post about it
stratt is so interesting bc she of how much shes trying to pass off as stoic calm and collected, untouchable, in control of the situation and coolly detached bc she understands how enormous the stakes are, and yet every so often we will see cracks in her facade that show that she is very much still a person with needs and emotions and sympathy and a desire for connection under it all
she says grace doesn’t even have a dog yet we hear nothing about her own family or friends or pets. she sits alone outside the party bc she’s the big boss, it’s inappropriate, and still she laughs at grace’s awkward jokes. she sends an unwilling man to his death and decides to send him off with letters from his students, one of his only human connections, because she is not cruel. she needs to save the world and she needs both large coffees to do so.
Stratt: "...you don't have a family, you don't even have a dog."
Grace:
really upsets me when people act like crying in front of strangers is always somehow manipulative. i say this as someone who would rather eat glass than let anyone see me cry. i can turn it off instantly when a human being appears within a 50ft radius. but the difference is i know I'M the fucked up one. if i see someone in the grocery store openly sobbing in the baking aisle, i assume something really bad must've happened and they probably do not want to be doing what theyre doing. i could be wrong but like also not my business. shit, maybe their favorite chocolate chips arent in stock, idk. "it's attention-seeking behavior and theyre trying to elicit care from people who don't owe them anything and it isnt normal and it makes everyone uncomfortable--" okay then idk go live in the woods and never perceive another human being ever again since it bothers you so much, tiffany. jesus fucking christ.
