I work in a kitchen. We are always told to not just stand around, that’s rule number one. Even if something’s on the stove, usually you can do something else while you wait for it.

If it’s milk. “You stand right there and watch over it, do NOT leave.”

What’s even better is if you’re forced to leave because you need something from the fridge or something. So you dash into the back and get it and if someone wants to ask you something you just go “MILK! ON THE STOVE!” and everyone jumps out of your way and goes “oh shit, run!!!”

For now, Charles was content to simply look around, leaning against the tree that was shielding him from the sun as he took in the atmosphere and the colourful bustle all around him.

After a while, he noticed a small crowd forming a few meters away, and he could hear a man’s voice carry over the general hubbub of the faire.

Charles approached, curious to see what was going on. It looked like there was some kind of magic act happening. A man around his own age, clad in an unassuming light grey tunic, a strikingly blue cape and a matching, wide-brimmed hat, was drawing in his audience as he explained what he was about to do.

Re: the last post, the article mentions that some places use clams to test the toxicity of the water. It’s like that in Warsaw- we get our water from the river, and the main water pump has 8 clams that have triggers attached to their shells. If the water gets too toxic, they close, and the triggers shut off the city water supply automatically.  

The clams are just better at measuring the water quality than any man-made sensors.
