Fruits Basket: Another volume 4 cover [END]
Did the Fruits Basket fanfiction community just vanish in the last six months? I mean, there are still fics being posted, but it feels like the community itself disappeared. Evaporated.
Or am I just not looking in the right place. Is there a discord I should be joining? This is not a rhetorical question.

the thing with kyoru is you will never see tohru honda want something so selfishly as she wants kyo
Kyo is a gossip hoarding gremlin.
Maybe it’s from being a cat (who are always naturally curious) but once he catches even a whiff that juicy gossp Kyo tunes the fuck in. He pretends (oh does he pretend) to not give a shit but Kyo knows at least 99.5% of the school drama.
Hes good at sneaking around, so you can bet your sweet ass once he suspects something is going down he slinks his way over and goes into stealth mode to listen in.
He doesn’t add to the gossip, nor does he talk about people unless it all becomes common knowledge.
Hes actually good with people, and a lot of the time people get comfortable enough to tell him passing gossip like
Did you hear?
Hmm?
Himiko from class A cut her hair.
Like i give a shit shes finally moved on from that cheating douche bag, pass me some more chips so I don’t gag at the thought of those two.
…how did you know before I even said-?
thinking a lot about shigure and kureno today, and it kind of hit me how kureno is obviously the one whose curse broke first, while shigure still feels bound and trapped by his… and yet, even though shigure was kicked out, because he’s now living outside of the sohma estate, he obviously has more personal freedom than kureno, who still feels chained to akito’s side through his own sense of obligation and guilt. since shigure’s curse isn’t broken yet, he can manipulate people and try to create change, but at the end of the day he can’t go directly against akito because she still has power over him as god. and while kureno could technically leave akito if he wanted to, he is still stuck in an abusive relationship and knows literally nothing else, so in a different way he also can’t really go against akito.
now obviously a ton of shigure and kureno’s animosity comes from akito and their romantic rivalry with each other, but i think a large part of it at this point is also because shigure and kureno both think that the other has the freedom that they want so badly. shigure is free to live in the outside world and set the plan in motion to break the curse, but kureno is already free from the curse itself. and in a lot of ways, this actually reminds me a lot of yuki and kyo’s misplaced animosity towards each other. they both think that the other person has the life, has everything that they desire for themselves but have never had. and i think at this point in the story, that’s true of shigure and kureno as well; they simultaneously have more freedom and are more trapped than each other. and with yuki and kyo and with shigure and kureno, their situations are a lot more similar than they’d ever admit or realize. because although it’s in different ways, shigure and kureno are both still under akito’s control and are both trying to free themselves of that.
hatori and kureno parallels: complacency, abuse enablers, boring, straight girls love them, prematurely graying
hatori and kureno contrasts: hatori is packing and kureno has a micropenis
Tohru x Yuki and the hat ♥
Honestly I don't think enough people are acknowledging yet how both his mother and the person he was sold to got mad at Yuki for having asthma.
He was not only isolated, but he wasn't even allowed to cough from a born medical condition. Everything was already tragic about what happened to him, now add that layer of he wasnt even allowed a natural body reaction to not being able to breathe.
shigure when he thinks about kureno, pre rooster theory confirmation: o_o >_>
shigure after kureno confirms that he's no longer the rooster: ^o^ :) \ouo/ :') >:)
i cannot stop thinking about the part where yuki thinks “i wanted for him to like me...i wanted him to become my friend” as kyo grabs his shirt and yells at him, and just the way that yuki’s eyes shift so clearly from shock and hurt to this hardened expression of hate. there’s this earnest openness to yuki as a little kid that we see is piece by piece just torn away from him as he grows up, as he’s forced to close himself off more and more from others and put on a defensive mask to keep himself from getting hurt, especially in his complicated relationship with kyo. yuki says it himself how his feelings shifted from “adoration to envy” but you can literally see the physical changes in yuki that show how he changes and shuts down to avoid vulnerability, in an effort to protect himself.
Okay but the Furuba gang playing among us and kyo being booted off constantly because he’s sus (even when he sees the killer)
Yuki is always the killer
fruits basket is a harem, just not tohru's 🥰

i love thinking about the back stories of the mabudachi trio because like... we’re never explicitly given much information about their relationships with their parents like we are for a lot of the younger characters, but all the hints are there. shigure is like the poster boy for avoidant attachment. my theory is that his parents were totally indifferent to him. no obvious rejection but no affection either, just apathy. he said he ‘never wanted his parents love’ because he genuinely doesn’t even remember desiring love from them, because attachment styles start in infancy. (some people say it starts in the womb). hatori was clearly depended on by his parents to be the ~good kid~ and golden child. he had to grow up fast and pick up the slack for others and he still internalises it, to the point where he struggles with allowing himself to claim what he wants. takaya said somewhere that he lost both his parents young... maybe they were sick for a while before that. that would explain why he had to take on extra responsibility, and would also give him extra motivation to enter the medical field. and ayame... well, his mother needed someone to criticise and control before yuki was born, but ayame is witty and loud and wildly imaginative and he learned to distract her with all his ramblings and stories; he became the overpowering one until it was too much work for her to even bother. the three of them are so messed up in such vastly different ways, they’ve seen each other in ugly times, and yet they’ve remained best friends for their entire lives and i just think that’s amazing.

I think it’s also interesting that Shigure in a sense doesn’t even really want to be free from the curse, though he thinks “maybe that’s a very lonely thing in of itself.”
Whereas Kureno is free from the curse, but that is also very a lonely thing in of itself for him. Shigure considers himself “the most cursed of all,” but Kureno arguably is as well in a different way, because he’s the most isolated and he’s bound not by supernatural forces but by his own empathy and sense of obligation towards Akito, not as his God, but as a person. (”A liberation, and a cage….” “When did that promise become a curse?”)
Shigure doesn’t truly want to be free the way Kureno does, and Kureno doesn’t truly want to be with Akito the way Shigure does. They both have opposite but undesirable situations, wanting what the other has, much like Yuki and Kyo.
