i think the reason steve as public property narratives don't really do it for me is because the only thing we've seen in canon is the opposite so it kind of just falls flat. like in catfa when he's supposed to receive that medal and he just doesn't show up? steve just kind of doesn't do things he thinks are stupid and he doesn't want to do so it never really does anything for me when people try to push the opposite like it makes sense especially in the 21st century when he's the most passively suicidal man on planet earth like really are you guys underestimating how much of a recluse he can be if he puts his mind to it? do you think all that stubbornness everybody lovesssss to hyperbolize from the 20th century just disappeared or did it just reshape itself into a more habitable mold for the circumstances. i'm thinking about all this because i'm thinking about what his first 4th of july must have been like in the 21st century i'm sure everybody and their mother was like let's have a parade and you're heading the parade. let's have confetti and fireworks and your name in the sky. and he was like actually i don't want to do any of that and furthermore it's my 27th birthday so i am going to stay at home and watch reruns on the tv while chainsmoking until i fall asleep on the couch instead. and he did. and it's a bit of a scandal and a bit of a letdown for a lot of people but you know what. after that nobody ever told him to make a twitter account again

Mhm neopronouns have be around for ages! And it was mainly started due to grammarians being prescriptive as opposed to descriptive and saying that "They" couldn't be bothered a singular and plural pronoun (didn't have any issue with "you" being both tho??) and like "She and/or He" is clunky and "He" is kinda sexist and sometimes means "men only" and sometimes means "everyone" which isn't great for laws so people had to improvise.

A Scottish lad proposed the use of "ou" which was the first documented instance of someone calling for a neopronoun which happened in 1792

In 1841 we had the proposal of "E/Em/Es"

And in 1858 we had "thon" which was a contraction of "the one"

It saw a decent amount of use in the late 1800s and was cited in a number of different dictionaries

"Ze/Xe" was first proposed in 1864

It can be argued that "they" was the original neopronoun. First neutral 2nd person pronoun not native to English (Norse influence) that naturally developed in English

That's the main thing about linguistic change, it's gotta happen naturally. Hence why some of these neopronouns didn't stick around that long but they still existed and still saw use. All language is made up. The idea of an original or pure language is bullshit and is typically seen alongside discriminatory and predatory regimes. Language is a made up, living thing and a culmination of multiple different human experiences. Have fun with it.

Thinking about Rocky’s just straight up trauma that no one seems to ever talk about?? Freaking the FUCK out at Grace imitating sleeping before they really had the words to fully understand each other when he barely knew him. Pleading with Grace, turning to hostility in denial, then to offering six year’s worth of his own trip home when Grace tells him he’s going to die in space. The panic, screaming Grace’s name when he’s unresponsive through the excessive centrifugal force scene, his words aren’t even being translated for the audience but the desperation is so strong it doesn’t matter. Putting himself through an atmosphere that is a very, very far cry from what he’s made to live in to save him. All for an alien he’s known for an earth year or so tops, which is so much less for him than for us. Watching 22 of his crewmates die slow painful deaths without even knowing what was happening obviously did a NUMBER on him but god i see no one talking about it
