Special Economic Zones in Iloilo and Bacolod

The Megaworld Corporation is constructing the Iloilo Business Park, considered the first cyber complex in Iloilo City. With an area of 72 hectares, the complex features commercial, residential, and tourism infrastructures. Megaworld projects investments amounting P35B in the next 10 years, among of which are the P15B Courtyard by Marriott Hotel and Richmonde Hotel Iloilo. It also projects BPO companies to lease around 100,000 square meters of floor area in the next three to five years.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental is constructing the First Negros Cyber Center. Situated in a 2.7 hectare government property in Bacolod City, the cyber complex is expected to house domestic and transnational companies engaged in software development, animation, medical transcription, and related business processes. Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Maranon Jr projects the creation of around 12,000 jobs worth P2B in annual salaries and an annual income of P90M from commercial rentals.

Power Demand in Iloilo City (as of June 2013)

Iloilo City's power demand was monitored at 90.5MW as of June 2013.

According to PECO Vice President for Operations Engr Randy Pastolero, Iloilo City's power demand will grow at a rate of 2.5-3.0 percent per year in the next three years. He expects Iloilo City's power demand to reach 105MW in 2015, given the ongoing developments in the city.

Meanwhile, Megaworld Corporation, which is currently developing the 72-hectare Iloilo Business Park, is  projected to demand around 40MW of power in the next five - 10 years.

An Estimated 500MW Power Supply in Western Visayas in the Next Five Years

Iloilo

Palm Concepcion Power Corp of the A Brown and Co is putting up a 135MW coal-fired in Concepcion, Iloilo. Construction is on-going. The project costs P12.5B, and is expected to be finished by 2016.

Panay Electric Development Corp of Global Business Power Corp will put up a 150MW coal-fired power plant at Bgy Ingore, La Paz, Iloilo City. Construction will start in Oct 2013, and will be finished in 33 months. The project costs P6.2B.

The Phase II of the Jalaur River Multi-Purpose Project in Calinog, Iloilo includes the construction of a 6.6MW hydro-electric power plant. Construction is on-going. The whole multi-purpose project costs P11.2B.

Negros

A group of German investors are planning to put up three biomass power plants in Negros Occidental: a 20MW in San Carlos City; 30MW in EB Magalona or Victorias City; and a 35MW in Bago City or La Carlota City. The investors have presented their proposal with Governor Alfredo Maranon Jr. The three projects cost around $500M or P22B.

Antique

The Sun West Water and Electric Co is putting up two hydro-electric power plants in Bugasong, Antique with combined output of 17MW. Both plants are under construction. The 8MW Villasiga I hydro-electric facility will begin operating in Dec 2013, while the 9.4M Villasiga II will operate in 2017. The two projects cost P3.6B.

Aklan

PetroEnergy Resources Corp will put up a 50MW wind farm in Nabas, Aklan. Construction will start this year along the coastline of Nabas facing the Sibuyan Sea and overlooking Boracay Island, Malay, Aklan, and will be operational by 2014.

Guimaras

Trans-Asia Renewable Energy Corp will put up a 54MW wind farm in San Lorenzo, Guimaras. Construction will start this year along the coastline of San Lorenzo facing the Mindanao Sea, and will be operational by 2014. The project costs P6.3B.

Summary

In the next five years, an estimated 500MW of additional power supply will be made available to meet the power demands in Western Visayas. Total costs for these projects is P63B.

mission objective

i came across a good book during the week. it tells about trends observed in the past several decades that influenced the way we think and do things today.

the author of the book had the following assumptions:

present events and behaviors influence future events to some extent (e.g. a student who studies diligently will most likely get high grades);

present conditions may affect the development of future conditions; but, decisions of leaders, policymakers, and businessmen determine the future to some extent (e.g. a  parcel of land is conducive for commerce and industry due to certain favorable conditions. however, it will remain just a parcel of land if its owner, a businessman, or the local government doesn't do anything to develop it); and

development of ideas and technology flow from the bottom going up through recognition or creation (plow - horse - tractor / worker's condition - labor union - labor laws); while, new ideas and technology flow from the top going down through assimilation or imitation (e.g. labor laws - industries - worker's rights / machines made by developed countries copied by developing countries).

given the above assumptions, this blog aims to come up with general observations by monitoring local events and behaviors. there are only two questions that the author would like to answer:

what is happening; and

why is it happening.

if something is happening, that is a bogey on my radar.
