Queens haven’t fully abandoned brawn and ballast (combustible lead single “My God Is the Sun” is up to their usual paint-stripping standards), but those qualities are now being harnessed for greater emotional impact, particularly on the penultimate “I Appear Missing”. It's a power ballad that perfectly bridges the divide between Queens’ hard and soft extremes, pitting Homme’s crestfallen melody against a sleeping giant of a chorus that proves to be as raging as anything in the band’s repertoire; when Homme shifts to falsetto for the song’s calamitous closing minute, it’s less a show of cheekiness than vulnerability. Homme initially chose his band name to subvert the machismo inherent to hard rock and, more than any of their records before it, ...Like Clockwork feels like the ultimate realization of that mission. [Pitchfork]
...Like Clockwork - Queens of the Stone Age released June 3, 2013
ppl use crab bucket metaphor to describe the lateral social violence of oppressed people, but tbh I think it's more like how sometimes when chickens are kept in such abysmal horrific close quarters conditions with no ability to make decisions or control any aspect of their lives, they just start violently attacking each other, to the point where some factory farms where this is a problem simply cut or trim parts of their beaks off so they can't do as much damage. because this is more cost effective than providing them with more space, species specific enrichment, appropriate lighting, etc, and the system we live under prioritizes cost effectiveness over the well-being of alive creatures.
it would be a mistake to think that this represents the natural behavior of chickens.
it would be a mistake to think that the social displacement harms we do to each other as marginalized people under a great deal of stress, under capitalism, represents the natural behavior of people.
human beings, however, possess the ability to learn to identify when we are engaging in this type of lateral social violence, and the ability to prioritize developing alternate coping mechanisms that cause less harm to the other people in our communities, and leave us with more energy to address the actual causes of our suffering.
get him wet wednesday

[ID: @/mara_marinara: Remember the dead woman that was forced to carry her baby? Well surprise, the baby is in terrible health. The baby has been in the NICU for 6 months. The state of Georgia is not helping pay for the medical expenses for that baby even though forced a dead woman to carry it...
@/smoke_nd_pearlz:
Yup. He's up to 11 pounds. They have to transfer him to another hospital for because the current hospital he's at cannot meet his complex needs.
The family is 100% responsible for the cost even tho the state forced them to keep that poor woman "alive" as a human incubator.
No news outlet is covering this, you know why? Because the fucking experiment on a black woman's body has FAILED miserably. The only updates are from grandma's go fund me. They let that woman die for a clump of cells (she was only 9 weeks pregnant at the time) that's not even doing ok 6 months later. 6 months is a long time to be in nicu!
Adriana Smith is her name. I am so sorry the state did this to you. You were a 30 year old nurse with a kid who was already here who needed you. The state failed you, the very hospital that you worked at who was so supposed to help you failed you... everybody failed you.

Here's a link to the GoFundMe to help her family out!
do you guys wonder if they ever explored each others dark wet atmospheric sides… anyway
TROY IS SO SMAAAAALLLLLLDKJSDOAIUAORIURAJCF *BLOOD SHOOTING OUT OF MY EYES AND MOUTH*
currently in the market for: troy images where you can see his shirts are quite tight around his midsection and its hot as fuck
the reason why I love waistcoats on him so much. jesus fucking christttttt
and of course, some of my faves as per request
this is going to be a long post but my journey of watching every performance of regular john chronologically has made me find out just how absurdly fast josh and troy became synchronized & in tune with each other enough to start improvising during the instrumental break
cotton club atlanta may 27 2002 - the first show with troy. you can tell it is bc there is zero deviation from the exact notes it sounds very straight and tight and pretty much exactly the same as josh & brendon used to play it
the theatre of living arts philadelphia may 29 - first small changes. at first it sounds as if theyre making mistakes before you realize it's probably the first sign of improvisation theyre attempting THREE DAYS INTO TROY BEING IN THE BAND.
bowery ballroom new york may 30 - the minor changes continue
paradise rock club june 01 - no existing footage unfortunately
9:30 club washington june 02 - they completely abandon the structure of the song immediately and go on their own independent mysterious sounding jam that lasts for almost 5 minutes during which the rest of the band goes silent and it's just the two of them playing while intensely staring at each other towards the end which would become their signature thing over the rest of the sftd tour and the following years.
like it's genuinely astonishing to me for so many reasons. troy was the first and only person to play the break in regular john on electric guitar alongside josh. before troy joined the other person harmonizing with josh had always been playing lap steel and it tended to be very organized and brief with practically no joined improvisations. before they had dave catching josh would just jam & make up melodies on his own and create his own instrumental break until the next chorus. with dave catching it was also mostly josh jamming while dave provided kind of simplistic harmonies. then with brendon mcnichol it was exactly the same each time if youve seen 1 regular john performance with brendon youve seen all of them. the pre-troy regular john instrumental break was generally sort of sterile with no contact or communication between josh & the other player.
then troy joins and literally within the first week they're so comfortable with each other and so confident in each other's musical ability it establishes a dynamic that is so unlike anything previously seen in queens it's almost crazy. for the first time ever there is someone who isn't just playing at the same time as josh but Together with him. their musical relationship is so intense and collaborative + competitive theyre looking each other dead in the eyes while trying to one-up one another and the song devolves into their unique personal segment where each person plays a different part but they both still operate within the same key so that it still harmonizes well. that level of coordination & cooperation and trust would be impressive even in the case of musicians who have been playing together for years and josh & troy were doing that by their seventh DAY. also the fact that troy had a week before joining the band to learn his parts on 3 instruments (lap steel, keyboard, guitar) and literally by the second show josh is making that extra hard for him by requiring him to scrap what he's just learned in favor of improvising instead. a crazy testament to both troy's abilities and their chemistry that they were able to make that work.
i don't know how to conclude this succinctly but it just makes me so insane that nick & josh have known each other since they were 13 & 14 and they never did anything similar to this in the band while troy was in the grand scheme of things just a guy who joined in for the tour but immediately became so important and special to the band and to josh specifically. i'm just genuinely overwhelmed by the evolution of their relationship over the years and the way it clearly showed in their shared guitar playing back then and still does to this day with easy street and even more so now. in the span of 23 years josh went from standing & staring at troy while playing a solo to approaching him with a smile and kissing him lovingly on the cheek and telling him i love you. i need to be killed
Nick is joyous, Mark is mogging the camera, Josh is high asf..and then there’s troy.
Troy has lights on but nobody is home.
jon & troy........guys.....
