Making a Mess

"K-Karen-san!" Atsuko said upon recognizing the younger successor. "Uh, no. Papa Cook went to buy some more rice, and well… Left me in charge." She looked around at the mess in the kitchen. 

"…And somehow this happened." She said. Although she was quite embarrassed at her situation, she was glad it was one of the members and not the chef that had walked into the kitchen.

Then she felt a fragrance that told her that something had been burnt, and hurried over to the frying pan, trying to fix it - even if she had a feeling it was a lost cause. A lot of the vegetables were already black around the edges. As she had no idea of what to do with it, she put the burnt ingredients on a plate, and tried to wash away the parts that had gotten stuck in the pan by putting it under the faucet, and pouring water on it.

The water evaporated as it touched the hot pan, and a cloud of steam rose up from it.

"Uh…" She said nervously. "…I’m not very good in the kitchen."

"Oh, um...."

Karen wasn't exactly sure what to say that would sound polite and not at all teasing. It wasn't like she was a master chef herself, but the situation was kind of... funny? Almost. In a way.

That feeling was quickly replaced by a sense of not wanting to get involved, though, as Karen... wasn't really sure she wanted to be hanging around the kitchen by the time Chef Papa did come back.

"Ah, um... ahaha, I'm not really that great, either," she quickly said, raising her hands as a helpless gesture of sorts, "It... can't be all that bad, though, right?"

On the morning of February 13th, Karen woke up super early before practice, and before her roommate had woken up, as well. She had almost been too excited to sleep much the night before, but she knew she'd be regretting it she didn't, no matter how lenient Ritsuko-sensei was.

Today was her birthday, and Karen wanted to make the best of it in one way or another. She was turning 15, and while there wasn't anything special about it, she was still turning a year older, and it was a special day to her. Admittedly, it would have been nice if she could have had a party back home with her friends and family, but she'd just have to make do with what she had. Besides, she'd get a part of one of the Valentine's concerts dedicated to her, so that was nice, right? And Karen could imagine she'd be receiving gifts from fans as well.

Sneaking into the kitchen, she found that Chef Papa had made a little cake for her, probably with the intention of her having it later on, but Karen didn't see exactly why she couldn't eat her cake for breakfast instead. It was her birthday! She could do what she wanted... within reason.

Well, it wasn't really like there was going to be a huge party with everyone singing 'Happy Birthday' to her later on, anyways. So it was okay.

Later in the day, Karen had gone shopping with Aanya, having had the rest of the day off. She'd bought some more supplies for crafting, as well as a few new outfits from the shop Miyuki had shown her months ago, before the older girl had left 00 to be with her mother. She had felt a little bit of sadness that their former teammate couldn't join them, but Karen knew that Miyuki should spend as much time with her mom as possible.

On the afternoon of the 15th, Karen waited behind the stage before her birthday MC, bouncing on her heels impatiently,feeling anxious. She'd been waiting all day for this, was still waiting, and she wasn't sure if she could wait any longer. Although it wasn't technically her birthday anymore, the tiny successor considered it to be just as special of a day, as it was her first Seitansai, with hopefully more to come in the years to come. 

Karen had been with 00 for a little over two years now, and she hoped she would continue to remain with them for a long time.

Megu was making the finishing touches of her costume in her room. Himeko, her roommate, had left the room after her constant nagging to leave her alone. Now that there was peace in the room, Megu could concentrate on finishing her costume. For Halloween, she was making a witch outfit to wear. The idol really liked the witch’s outfit of the game she was from, although she never played it before. The colors were nice and the outfit was cute; what other reason was there to make it?

The brunette was tying the ribbon for the hat when she felt a sudden vibration from her phone. 'Who is it now…' she thought. Megu carefully put down the hat on the table and dug through her pocket. She turned it on and looked at the message she received. To the understudy’s surprise, it was Tochi who texted her, asking if she wanted to go candy shopping and maybe go to a costume party afterwards.

'How did she get my number…?' Megu thought, 'I don't think I've ever gave her my number… Well, at least we have each other's numbers now.' Halloween was coming soon, and the idol still had time left finishing her costume. '…Well, why not? It's been a while…' Megu started to type out a reply. In it, she agreed to hanging out with the successor and asked where to meet up. The brunette then put her phone back in her pocket and began to put away her things.

It had taken some asking around to get Metumi's number, really, and Tochi didn't know why she hadn't asked for it from Megu to begin with. Then again, Tochi had a tendency to be absent-minded at times, and maybe it was just because of everyone's differing schedules.

Still, she was happy to get a reply taking her up on the offer, having been unsure what to expect, and the young successor waited in the foyer for Megumi to catch up with her. Hopefully today would be good, and they'd be able to find some deals on candy, but if not, that was alright, too... kind of. Well, as long as she got to hang out with a friend, it was okay, anyways?

I wonder what kind of costume she's going with? Tochi wondered, thinking back to her own costume. She'd decided to make a costume inspired by the Halloween card set from the mobile game she played, and it had been tough deciding on which character to go with, as all the outfits were great.

Making a Mess

Atsuko had gotten the day off, and was initially just going to relax during the day, but unfortunately, it hadn’t gone according to plan. She had walked into the kitchen to get something light to eat, and had begun to prepare a simple sandwich, when Chef Papa had walked in, and insisted that she should get a proper meal.

She wasn’t entirely sure how that had gone to him teaching her the ways of the Chef, but there she was, walking around in the kitchen, doing things she never thought she was ever going to make, and that was when things started to go downhill. Chef Papa had realized they didn’t have any rice, and had left her with a bunch of ingredients and other things she couldn’t even name yet. He told her to make something out of it while he was gone.

In a matter of minutes, she was running around in the kitchen, trying to not burn the vegetables while looking for a beater, hindering food from falling out of the fridge (she had picked out some things out of there, and had had no idea as to where she should put it back, so she had just stacked them on-top of each other.)

"This is bad. This is very, very bad." She quietly chanted to herself all the while, desperately hoping to somehow pull it together before Chef Papa came back. The sound of the door to the kitchen opening and closing stopped her dead in her tracks, and she slowly turned her head to see who it was. Thankfully, it wasn’t 00’s chef.

Karen had intended to grab a quick snack from the kitchen before heading out to go shopping, having the day off as well. Originally, she had wanted to ask Aanya to come with her, but her roommate's schedule was unfortunately different from hers today, which was a little disappointing, but to be expected- it was just how things worked around here. 

Well, at least they were both successors and roomies now; Karen had missed being able to hang out with her best friend, let alone sharing a room with her. That alone was enough to keep her from getting too down at any given moment, as if they ended up missing a chance to do things together, Karen could tell her all about it later that night.

As it was, as Karen stepped into the kitchen, she wasn't exactly prepared for the sight before her. Having expected to see Chef Papa, or even maybe Mayuyu, she was surprised to see Atsuko in the kitchen... along with the mess she was apparently creating. Awkwardly, she said nothing for a moment, before she finally snapped back to reality, realizing that she wasn't helping with anything.

"Um... I'm not interrupting anything, am I?"
