The Ocean Maiden. She appears among the waves at dusk, to farewell the sun and welcome the moon. She dances with the tide, which is entwined to the ancient spiral shell she wears around her neck. The sea is reflected in her eyes, and the Siren's song radiates from her soul. Finally finished! Every. Single. Time! 😂 For anyone who in unsure, here in Australia we call Thrift Stores/Second Hand stores 'Op Shops' (which is an abbreviation of Opportunity Shop). I love op shopping, have been doing it since I was a kid, and almost my entire wardrobe and book collection is second hand, all bought from charity shops. Ever time I walk into one I spend way longer in there than I intend to, even if I don't even buy anything. There's one op shop that's local to me though that I ALWAYS end up buying from, and when I want to donate some old clothes, books and so on they're the first place I go to because the people who run it are so lovely and I always have good experiences there 😊 If you've never been thrift shopping I highly recommend it! 'Death of the Litter Mermaid' Inspired by the novel 'The Little Mermaid' by Hans Christian Andersen. A4 mixed media on watercolour paper. So I know this isn't the work in progress I last posted but ta-dah! Two years in the making but I finally finished this piece 😁 I really love old fairytales and most of them have pretty dark or tragic endings. From what I can remember from this story, the little mermaid went to the sea witch and traded her voice in exchange to become human and had to marry or have the price fall in love with her before her time was up (probably 3 days like in Disney). However, if she did not succeed, she would turn into sea foam and die. Alas, the prince fell in love with someone else. Heartbroken, the mermaid fled to the sea shore and wept, not knowing what to do. That is when her sisters appeared. They too had been to the sea witch to find a way to undo the spell on their little sister. In exchange for their long beautiful hair, they were given a dagger which the little mermaid must plunge into the heart of the prince, taking his life in order to save hers. Even though she went to do as her sisters told her, she could not bring herself to kill the prince, so she returned to the sea, where among the tide her body turned into sea foam, and was no more. I've depicted that end scene in my painting. The little mermaid in the centre choosing her fate, with her sisters mourning making up the boarder, their long cut off hair wrapping around the dagger at the bottom of the page. I'm really happy with how this turned out 😊 I used to be in this mindset of sticking to one medium for an entire artwork, but I'm really glad I tried multiple for this piece because for the longest time it was really bland and dull (I was only using watercolour when I started this in late 2016 and did a bit on it in 2017) But now that it's covered in glitter pens it's so shiny and wonderful! 😁🦀✨ I really want to try more mixed media in the future 😊 Water colour, water colour pencil, acrylic paint, fine liner, gold permanent marker, and metallic gel pens. #littlemermaid #hanschritianandersen #fairytale #watercolourpainting #mixedmedia

Every. Time. I'm usually pretty good at restraining myself when it comes to shopping, but whenever I walk into a fabric store, book shop or art supply store, it's game over man! The other day I went into a fabric store with the intent of only buying one specific thing...came out with that item plus 4 meters of fabric, some material off cuts and a rotary cutter. I don't even know why I bought the rotary cutter it's basically a glorified pizza cutter! But I plan on using it so I guess it was worth spending the money in the end, at least that's what I'm going to keep telling myself 😅 #relatablecomics #illustration #artistlife #comicart #spending #fabric

Happy New Year! Only so many weeks late haha 😅 So like a lot of artists, I always second guess my art. "Is this finished to my standard? Is this good enough to upload/show people?" and I ponder over it so much that 80% of my art never sees the light of day, remains unfinished, and the other 20% is what I show to people 😅 However! I'm determined to try and break that cycle of never uploading by forcing myself to upload doodles and sketches whether I think they're good enough or not 😝 I really like the Japanese Mori Girl/Forest Girl look so I decided to have a go at drawing a little fashion sketch of the style. "Crossroads" watercolour pencil and fine liner on 150gsm paper (Drawn by yours truly 😁). Hope everyone had a safe and happy festive season 🤗 I started this drawing at the start of December and finished it a little before Christmas but haven't gotten around to uploading it until now. This was inspired by a moment when I was lost in my own thoughts thinking about my life and where it's going, and how I always seem to keep looping back to the same place, the crossroads. And, as artists do, rather than keep dwelling on it, I thought "That'd make for a cool drawing", and I drew it! 😁 While the wandering traveller isn't really meant to resemble myself, there are some similarities 😜 This was my first time using watercolour pencils (since I was about 7 that is) and I'm really happy with how it turned out 🙂 Hopefully I'll be productive and upload more pieces like this soon 🙂 #watercolourart #watercolourpencil #watercolorpainting #traveller #crossroads #illustration #fineliner #wanderer #colourfulart

Finally coloured 😁👍 Heracles and the Erymanthian boar. Hi all! Wow it's felt weird not posting anything for almost two weeks after a whole month of constant drawing and uploading. I thought I'd share this; It's the piece I drew during Inktober before I realised I'd read the prompt wrong. This is Heracles (Roman, Hercules) during his Trials/Labours. Number 4, capture the Erymanthian Boar. According to myth, the boar is too fast to capture in normal circumstances, so Heracles had to chase the boar into heavy snow in order to slow it down and capture it. Inktober Day 31; "Mask". Two of the nine Muses; Thalia (Comedy) and Melpomene (Tragedy). These two Muses are depicted holding theatre masks in old paintings and carvings. They also featured in my drawing of Aphrodite for day 17 of Inktober. We did it everyone! One whole month of drawings! Whether you did a drawing every day or just a few drawings throughout the month, be proud of your work! 😃 It certainly was a challenge, but now the real challenge, at least for me, will be to keep up this amount of productivity. But I'll strive to do my best! Inktober Day 28; "Fall". Icarus, the man who flew too close to the sun. Icarus was the son of Daedalus, the master craftsman who was commissioned to build the labyrinth that would contain the Minotaur beneath the home of King Minos of Crete. After the labyrinth was built, Daedalus and Icarus were held captive by King Minos. In an attempt to escape, Daedalus crafted wings out of feathers and wax. He warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun for the wax would melt, and to not fly too close to the sea or the feathers would become wet and too heavy to fly. But, taken by the glee of flight, Icarus flew higher and higher against his fathers warning. Inktober Day 27; "Climb". King Sisyphus' punishment. King Sisyphus was sentenced to push a boulder up a large hill in the Underworld/Tartarus, only to have it roll back down and push it back up again, over and over for all eternity for his crimes against the gods (he was basically a selfish trickster who kept outwitting the gods). Cerberus is there just to kind of indicate he's in the Underworld. This was a bit of a rush job but at least now I know to add 'learn to draw rocks' to my list of things to improve on (right next to 'feet', 'animals' and 'backgrounds' 😂😅) #inktober2017 #inktoberday27 #sisyphus #greekmythology #climb #tartarus #cerberus #

Inktober Day 26; "Squeak". Apollo and a mouse. Apparently there's some connection between the two. When Apollo was mad at mortals he would send mice plagues to torment them. When mortals did good he would exterminate the mice. Go figure 😕 I didn't have a lot of time so this is unfinished, but I shall return to it at a later stage. #inktober2017 #inktoberday26 #apollo #mouse #squeak #greekmythology

Inktober Day 25; "Ship". Odysseus and the sirens. The myth goes that Odysseus wanted to know what the sirens song was like, so he had his sailors tie him to the mast of his ship so that he could listen to their song without being lured to a watery grave. The sailors plugged their ears with beeswax so that they could row without being caught in the sirens trance themselves. #inktober2017 #inktoberday25 #odysseus #sirens #ship #greekmythology

Inktober Day 24; "Blind". King Phineus of Thrace, the blind seer. There are various tellings as to what lead to King Phineus' fate, but Zeus gave him the option to choose whether he wished to die, or be blind. King Phineus chose to be blind saying 'I'd rather never see the sun again'. This angered the sun god Helios, and in addition to the seers punishment, Helios sent harpies to terrorise Phineus, stealing his food whenever he tried to eat. Eventually King Phineus was freed from the Harpies by Jason and the Argonauts. My intent for this piece was to have the background there but dark and washed out, to suggest the seer knows where he is for he has been there many times before, but can no longer see it. Inktober Day 23; 'Juicy' Persephone (Roman, Proserpina), Hades (Roman, Pluto), and the pomegranate. Ehh...so not very happy with this piece. I redrew it about 6 times and in the end just didn't allow myself enough time to make something good, so unfortunately this is what I'm presenting today 😓 (I don't know why I drew Hades like this, he looks like a bishi attempt of a vampire I would have drawn back in high school...😖😓😣 One day I'm going to try and redraw this just to redeem myself...eehhhhh) #inktober2017 #inktoberday23
