the thing is avatar the last airbender is genuinely a lifechangingly good show in the sense that when i watched it as a child it completely blew my mind and fundamentally changed my understanding of what a cartoon could even be and sparked a lifelong passion for animation. and even as an adult i think looked at purely as a piece of storytelling it holds up really really well and i have never not enjoyed myself whenever i've rewatched it. but you can't just be like 'i love avatar the last airbender' without caveats these days lest people think you're the kind of grown adult who consider it the be-and-end-all of not only the entire medium of animation but also political storytelling in general. and well that just objectively is not true by any stretch of the imagination. very unfortunate.

ffxiv had a major patch which added tons of new things (story chapters, raids, dungeons, etc) but one of the unintentional additions was a bug that spawned a bunch of level 1 deers with no name in coerthas western highlands.

hello everyone, happy holidays. if anyone is in the spirit of giving this time of year, my wife and I are still struggling badly. I am disabled & cannot work, and even if I wasnt, we only have one car that i am not insured to drive. my boyfriend is also disabled, but works at a job that cuts his hours whenever they see fit. we get anywhere from $100/week to $300/week that always immediately goes to our car & insurance payments. it is impossible to stay afloat on our own. we really need help, and anything at all is appreciated. A proposal

Sometimes, in fandom, we just want to write id-tastic fic that rolls around in tropes that might be viewed as problematic. But we don’t want to address the problematic side of things in this particular fanwork; we just want to roll around and wallow.

It is considered courteous to give readers a heads-up via use of AO3 tags. I propose a tag that signals that a given fanwork is for rolling around, not giving a measured evaluation of anything. The MCU has carved out a space for this sort of fic with the “HYDRA Trash Party” tag, for which I commend them. Trash Party is a bit too specific to cover all of the ground I’m thinking of here, though; I propose “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat.”

For those of you not familiar with Arrested Development, Michael Bluth finds a paper bag in the freezer labeled “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat.” He opens the bag, finds a dead dove, and reacts as follows:

explaining old praetorium to people who never experienced it makes me feel like a crazy person. like yeah there were 8 players there. the tanks pulled every single add so that the rest of the party could hit a button, then they pulled two full hallways of enemies so the party could skip ahead, and sure they usually died but it was prae so that didn't matter.

then after the first boss you had to get on the elevator. all 8 of you. at the same time. yeah if we forgot someone we have to go back. then every single person has to pick up a key to turn on the magitek armor and get on another elevator. hope you didn't miss that one.

nero was whatever but gaius barely did any mechanics, he really just fell over. then you'd have the whole ultima weapon fight, which was two phases and one of them you barely did any damage. oh and at the end you fought lahabrea. if you were lucky he was Lahabread and if he lived more than ten seconds it was a miracle. congrats for spending 45 minutes of your life in prae, have some exp.

I hate to break it to you all, but the military is the closest thing that a lot of countries have to socialism - for a lot of people it is in fact a way out of their living situation. You also need to learn that the majority of military jobs are not combat roles, they're support roles. Stop fighting individuals and start fighting the government that wants to strip people of rights and options so it can force them into an institution that will ship them off to fight in a war they didn't start.

like yes actually there is a conversation to be had about how a characters actions are framed and how they thematically fit with the rest of the story and it can in fact reflect the author's beliefs. some authors are even trying to make a point
