Masahisa Fukase’s last body of work, published in Chūō Kōron(中央公論), August 1992 issue.
A finely cast Japanese bronze model of a scorpion, naturalistically rendered with articulated legs, segmented body, and raised, curling tail terminating in a sharply defined sting. The claws are modelled in opposing form with textured detailing, while the carapace and abdomen display carefully defined ridges and panelled sections, enhancing the lifelike character of the piece. The underside bears a small impressed seal mark within a rectangular cartouche.
