hogwarts jily fic tropes i’ll never tire of
the “almost but not quite there” bit in every slowburn enemies-friends-lovers trope that encompasses every good jily fic:
catching each other staring, not even caring that they got caught
passing flirty notes in class
literally everyone realizing they’re in love but them
agonizing b/c ‘what if he doesnt ask me to hogsmeade??’
months of angst&agony b/c they don’t want to ruin their ‘friendship’
lily impulsively kissing james and then running away
james being absolutely dumbstruck when this happens
james going shirtless after a quidditch practice for some reason?

late night common room chats???
james cheering lily up after she’s gotten an awful letter from her sister
lily cheering james up b/c his beloved pet died
summertime letters and james has an owl w/ a clever name even though he probably got it when he was 11 so it’d be named hercules or smth
HOGSMEADE IS ATTACKED and they’re going to either rush toward each other and make sure the other is safe, or be a badass team fighting together
‘platonic’ napping b/c one of them doesn’t sleep well. bc of course
and then, established relationship at hogwarts?? is pretty much
bets exchanging when news leaks that they’re (finally) officially together
‘sorry we’re late professor….we got caught up with heads’ duties’
both of them coping (alone and together) with being muggleborn & pureblood in a society that doesn’t want them together
lily wearing james’s scarf for good luck b/c of course she does
defiling the heads’ office, or heads’ dorms, or both
study sessions stopped short b/c snogging
lily gaining the trust and affection and loyalty of each one of the marauders as they hang together
that one uncharacteristic mcgonagall scene when she catches them snogging and gives them a light sentence (i.e. not skinning them alive) and smiles to herself once they’re out of view
james making up holidays to buy lily presents bc she thinks its ridic how much $$ he spends
being ridiculous with the pda

the marauders having that existential ‘what about our legacy’ crisis and go on a prank spurt just as NEWTs are wrapping up
if a fic as the ‘leaving hogwarts in the rowboats’ scene i will cry every single time
