I walk my local park regularly, and have for a long time. Sometimes I ponder the first peoples of this land-Cabrogal country, Darug Nation. Their stories, their traditions, their ancestors and elders, and those who survive today. Does any of the land I walk on today resemble the land as it was, say, 100, 150 years ago? There are signs our First Peopleâs presence and sacred sights scattered around Australia, if you know where to look or how to keep your eyes open, if they have survived colonisation and urbanisation and desecration. Iâve never noticed these before in all my years of walks here, but i think these are scar trees. The size and shape of the patch of bark cut out looks like it would serve like a shield, or plate, or carrier, and the tree remains standing, healthy. In the space that is left there are markings-some carved graffiti, sure, but also hand prints. I donât know if theyâve been there a week, a year, or many years. Kinda cool right? :) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cmp2jwHPld2xuDfu9Ni5O9iae-ZLyx1jjdF1Y00/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
