In 2014, Obama signed an executive order designating Venezuela as an "unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security of the United States of America." Since then, 1,088 sanctions have been imposed on us, supported by other countries in the international community (the United Kingdom, Panama, the European Union, among others). However, the UN classifies these sanctions as "unilateral coercive measures" because they lack UN approval and constitute expressions of economic violence designed to harm the population and pressure it to change its government. Due to the sanctions, Venezuela is excluded from the interbank communication system and cannot conduct commercial transactions in the international market; that is, it cannot freely sell its oil or make essential and irreplaceable purchases (machinery, spare parts, medicines, etc.). The United Kingdom is holding 31 tons of Venezuelan gold and has not released it during the pandemic or after the two earthquakes. Billions of dollars deposited in European banks are also being held. Furthermore, Venezuela has lost control of its assets abroad (Citgo, refineries, and other companies related to the oil industry). The International Monetary Fund and the World Bank also hold Venezuelan resources. Since 2014, hegemonic governments have been economically and financially suffocating us. Nobody wants to be Venezuela; in the media, we are presented as the bad example. On January 3, the United States bombed us for five hours, experimenting with 22 new weapons, and threatened an even worse bombing if we did not obey their orders. And we decided to negotiate with the aggressor to avoid becoming another Palestine. Trump and Lindsey Graham celebrated on Air Force One how easy it was to steal Venezuela's oil, gold, rare earth elements, and everything else. It is clear that Venezuela poses no threat to anyone. It is not warmongering or terrorist. It is not involved in drug trafficking. The Cartel of the Suns does not exist, nor are there any guerrillas, death squads, or paramilitary groups. According to the left and some international analysts, Venezuela's flaw is cultural: "it's cowardly" because it doesn't respond with violence every time it's attacked (economic strangulation, media warfare, naval blockade, bombings, etc.). I prefer to think we are peaceful, and that's not a flaw, I hope. Today, after a devastating double earthquake, Venezuela demands the lifting of all economic sanctions so it can rebuild its cities, homes, hospitals, historical buildings, roads, and the rest of its destroyed infrastructure. Maintaining the sanctions is illegal, immoral, cruel, and inhumane.
