âalright, alright, itâs a hell of a feeling though / itâs a hell of a feeling thoughâ pippaâs voice harmonized with the lead singer of liquid mercuryâs voice. their smile was wide and their hair was flying around behind them as they moved to the rythm of the song before jumping both physically and into the next lines, âChampaign, cocaine, gasoline / and most things in between / I roam the city in a shopping cart / A pack of camels and a smoke alarm / This night is heating up / Raise hell and turn it up / âSaying âIf you go out you might pass out in a drain pipeâ / Oh yeah, donât threaten me with a good time.â pippa took a few step backwards, smiling at the crowd of people that had come for the birthday party which they⊠certainly had not expected, but had been quick to fall into steps with. they smiled at the lead singer and gave them a hug, thanking them for letting pippa upstage them and giving them the mic back before descending from the stage, the thrill that they got from performing rushing through their veins and making them giddy and excited.Â
Kavia had been moving around restlessly, enjoying the party but not really getting too involved in any one activity or anything. It was a great party, she just couldnât seem to settle enough to relax and enjoy being in one spot. But she did pause to listen to the music - a song she recognized and rather liked - and watched as Pippa stole the show briefly. âThat was really nice,â she called, moving through the crowd when Pippa was finished. âYou sounded great.â

âI reckon,â Mia said, eyeing Roseâs father calculatingly, âthat heâd be pretty easy to get to sputtering stage. He mustâve had to learn how to handle some things that normally mess with parents, just looking at all of his relatives, but still⊠thereâs an easily-aggravated tomato of a man just waiting to pulp out.â
Kaviaâs eyes followed Miaâs and landed on Mr. Weasley. While it was true, he did seem like heâd be the sort to get very easily flustered, she wasnât sure it was a course of action that anyone should attempt at a party. âAre you planning to do anything tonight, or is this just speculation?â
âDonât even worry about it. Spending my fatherâs life savings is a true joy, so youâre kind of doing me a favor,â she chuckled, leaning back in her chair. Her fingers drummed against the table in front of her as she nodded her head to confirm. âNoah, yeah.â It was never really surprising when someone from the school recognized her, it was a small enough environment that it was fairly commonplace. âBout as long as Iâve been here, though. Really justâŠsuch a charming man,â she said with a roll of her eyes.Â
That was an interesting statement but not the sort of thing you could really ask about, when you really didnât know your dinner companion. Still, Kavia wished she could unravel it because she didnât like things that she didnât know; it was going to niggle at her mind for ages now. âGlad to be of service then,â she said with a grin. Some mysteries werenât meant to be uncovered so sheâd have to deal with it. âMen.â They just werenât worth the trouble sometimes, although she knew there were plenty of decent ones out there. âHopefully heâll take the hint and stop bothering the customers here. Unless it was just you that he took a fancy too.â
Josie had a tendency to linger in London, these days. She blamed her newfound apparition skills, not her tendency and need to flee from home when things became too heavy â it was just so easy to get there now. No train tickets or buses or long car rides, just a flash of a moment and there she was. She had spent that day in the Soho Square Gardens, scrolling through her phone and making sketches of strangers, but was moving through Diagon Alley, now, on her way to get some ice cream or anything, really. Her mind flashed back to her time spent sitting on the grass, and she approached the first person she saw â âHi, so I have a question for you, and you need to answer completely honestly, got it?,â she asked, before turning around slightly. âDo I have a grass stain on my bum? And if so, do you know anyone whoâs properly good at cleaning charms, or something?â
Kavia thought she was meeting her siblings for dinner but upon double-checking their texts, she was meant to bring something home. Which, after working at her internship all day, was not really something she wanted to do but she had dutifully turned round and started off to find something that would satisfy all of them. She turned when Josie spoke, smiling politely. âI can answer honestly, no problem.â She hadnât really anticipated the turn the conversation would take but did her part and examined Josieâs bum. âOh, I see a little one, yeah. Not too big but itâs there. Iâm a good hand with cleaning charms though, if you want me to take care of it for you.â
There was a grateful look in Noahâs eye as Kavia sat down and she slumped back down in her chair more comfortably as the waiter backed off. âKiller. Glad you could make it,â she spoke a bit louder than was necessary, just to drive the point home with the waiter. âLunch is on me, though, as a thank you.â Her voice was back to a normal tone, as the waiter had scurried out of their space. âItâsâŠKavia right?â She was pretty sure that was right, she had a fairly good memory for names, even if theyâd only run into each other here and there around the castle.
Kavia smiled brightly, eyes following the retreating waiter. âOh, thatâs not necessary. I mean, I wouldnât really turn you down but itâs not necessary at all.â She would have done as much for anyone - but there was also the matter of her stipend for food not covering everything, and she didnât even have time to work at Good Omens this summer. âYes, Iâm Kavia. And youâre - Noah?â Kavia worked hard to remember names, because it would be an important skill in the future, when she was (hopefully) working at the Ministry. She was fairly certain Noah was correct though. âHas he been bothering you long?â

Noah was growing steadily used to the idea that being foreign was bound to garner attention for her. She was out in London proper at a small cafe off the river, rolling her eyes as the waiter leaned over on her table, trying to flirt. Whether it was her accent or her general vibe he was trying to latch on to, Noah simply wasnât interested. She was much too gay for it and much too tired to deal with politely getting the guy out of her space.Â
Head lifting up with irritation from the food she was trying to eat, her eyes caught sight of someone familiar - someone from school. Though she had been doing her damnedest to avoid anyone and everyone from school for quite some time, this seemed like the time to break that. âOi, mate, over here,â she called out, loudly, waving them down to come sit at the table with her.Â
âAh, ace, thanks. He was getting a little too close for comfort.âÂ
Kaviaâs head snapped up from her phone - her siblings were texting nonstop, as if they hadnât just seen her - but she wasnât one to refuse to help a person in need, particularly someone she recognized, however slightly. She grinned and veered toward the table, eyes sliding from Noah to the waiter. âSorry, I was running behind a bit.â She dropped into the seat, flashed a polite smile at the waiter, and then leaned in closer to Noah. âNo problem, Iâm always happy to help. I was just out to get something to eat myself anyway.â
âIâm so sorry, let me help you!â Like most things in her life, Cassieâs first solo trip to Diagon Alley started with a bang â particularly in the form of her, in an uncharacteristic show of clumsiness, tripping on a loose cobblestone and taking an entire showcase of trinkets to the ground. She had the tendency of falling into places like a meteor, but didnât actually expect to see a sort of purpleish powder react with Belladonna fluid and cause a tiny, tiny explosion. That was precisely why you just didnât buy potion ingredients off the streets (and probably why essential oils were so en vogue back home). Alas, she would have been slightly less embarrassed if such an outcome was intended, which it usually was, but not that day. Therefore she kept walking nonchalantly, trying, for once, to blend into the crowd. âCirce! That was A+ brainlessness.â Of course she didnât expect an answer, but they day was so far throwing her expectations out the window. It was only 9am.
Kavia wasnât used to explosions in Diagon Alley, at least not when she was around. She just tried to be more careful around potions ingredients - anything flammable or explosive, really. But as no real harmed seemed to be done, she tried to continue along with her day, though she looked up at the unfamiliar voice. âIt was . . . something, all right,â she said, shaking her head. The other girl was more familiar when she was paying attention. âYouâre one of the interns at the Ministry, right? I feel like Iâve seen you there.â
â Oh, I don't know what you've been told/ But this gal right here's gonna rule the world/ Yeah, that is where I'm gonna be, because I wanna be/ No, I don't wanna sit still, look pretty.â Kavia Brown-Patil, Naomi Scott, 16, Incoming Seventh Year, Slytherin, Demigirl Muggleborn, She/her
Itâs Kay again, with my other love, Kavia! Details under the cut.
Kavia is the oldest of several adopted children. The Brown-Patil family is large and loving; Lavender and Parvati are the softest mums ever and just shower the kids with affection, and the kids are a very tight-knit group, with Kavia (as the first adopted child) claiming the spot of oldest, complete with I-know-whatâs-best-for-you nagging and offers to hex anyone who messes with her younger siblings.
Sheâs a seventh year Slytherin, very determined to make the world a better place so sheâs one of the Shacklebolt Internship recipients (I keep forgetting to decide which branch of the MOM so that will come later). Kavia grew up believing she could do literally anything and she will either talk you into letting her do it, or listen to your argument and then do her own thing anyway - itâs a soft sort of rebellion.
Her mums run a Divination shop (Good Omens) that caters to both magical and Muggle worlds. Kavia has a healthy respect for Divination but doesnât practice it herself (although she might go to someone for advice from the crystal ball or whatever).
Kavia is pansexual panromantic; she falls in love with anyone and everyone, just because sheâs a soft romantic at heart. Or she could but sheâs really focused on her career, even though sheâs still in school. However the right person could come along and change all that; she makes time for the important things, and the right relationship would be very important.
More details in rambling form can be found right here. Her about tag also has details. Please bring me her siblings and I will love you forever.
playing football at twilight || movie marathons until the wee hours of the morning || weeding the garden on Saturdays || Sunday brunch with Mumâs coffee cake || studying together in empty classrooms || presenting a united front when someone messes up || giggling together at breakfast
The Brown-Patil siblings might not be related by blood but theyâre about as close as you can possibly be. Lavender and Parvati adopted from a mix of magical and Muggle orphanages, and the kids were brought up knowing both worlds; they attended primary school in the village and flew on their toy broomsticks at home.Â
Kavia is the oldest, by adoption if not by age. As the first Brown-Patil child, she took it on herself to be the protector for all the rest and is constantly keeping an eye out for them at Hogwarts. She can be a bit of a nag at times, overbearing, but it comes from a good heart.
((This is open for any age, any fc, basically anything you have inspiration for! Iâd love to chat about the family dynamics and plot out the relationships in advance but if youâre really inspired, feel free to apply anyway and we can chat later! Iâm usually lurking around at some point throughout the day.))
she turned towards the slytherin and gave her a faux shocked draw drop. âyou donât like mcdonaldâs?â she asked. âwhat kind of monsterâŠâ she trailed off, shaking her head in mock disappointment. âwaffles are a good start though,â she added a moment later, giving the other girl a smile. waffles would be the perfect breakfast food, in her opinion. she loved that you could just fill the little holes with other yummy stuff making the entire thing even better. âyou really think we can find something decent around here? i hope so.â poppy was more than a bit worried that all the food would have somehow disappeared, likely into the stomachs of all the drunks from the night before. itâd be just her luck if they couldnât find anything other than leftovers. âi really, really hope so.â
âA monster with good taste,â she said, grinning as she shrugged apologetically. âBut also it upsets my stomach so thereâs that. I apologize for ruining your breakfast plans though. If you were really set on McDonalds.â She ran a hand through her hair and looked around; it was early, and there was always the possibility that they wouldnât be able to find anything after all but she preferred to think positively about their odds. âIâm sure we can. Thereâs bound to be something open and still stocked with food to serve us.â
âfood,â poppy drawled out, creating far more syllables than strictly necessary. it was far too early for the girl, and she needed some sort of sustenance to keep her going. there had been plenty of food, but now that the festival was drawing to a close, poppy found herself in need of food that hadnât been left out all night. although she hadnât participated (much) in the drinking, she still felt far more grouchy than her normal cheerful self.âpreferably something cheap and full of calories,â she added a moment later. âlike the mcdonaldâs hotcakes or waffles or something.â she let out an exasperated breath that was ruined by her accompanying smile. âeither help me find food or suffer the consequences.â her eyes narrowed in mock contempt before laughing; anyone who knew poppy would immediately know that she wasnât the type to give consequences of any sort.
Kavia had woken up far earlier than she really intended but she couldnât go back to sleep - the trouble with both tents and cramming in with her siblings was that it prevented sleep. So sheâd gone out for a wander, stretching out the knots in her back and finger-combing her hair into order again. The sight of another person was a happy change and despite not knowing exactly who it was - definitely a Hogwarts student, but younger and not a Slytherin and Kavia just couldnât be bothered to remember names at the moment - she gravitated towards the other girl. âWaffles, yes. McDonaldâs, no. Waffles sound pretty heavenly now that you mention it - theyâre definitely the superior breakfast food. Iâm sure we can find something too, no consequences necessary.â
â Oh, I don't know what you've been told/ But this gal right here's gonna rule the world/ Yeah, that is where I'm gonna be, because I wanna be/ No, I don't wanna sit still, look pretty.â Kavia Brown-Patil, Naomi Scott, 16, Incoming Seventh Year, Slytherin, Demigirl Muggleborn, She/her
I. Family: Kavia is one of several adopted children. After they got married, Parvati and Lavender decided they wanted a big family, and began looking into adoption almost immediately. They looked at both magical and Muggle orphanages as well, and the children come from a variety of backgrounds. Kavia was the first child adopted and considers the others all her younger siblings (regardless of their actual ages), taking the traditional role as the oldest. She looks after the rest of them, from the little things like scrapes and bruises to the bigger things like broken hearts. Kavia loves her siblings and parents so much, and she wants the best for all of them. Itâs rare to find her away from her siblings at school, although itâs happened more in the recent past, and with the internship sheâs hoping to earn for the summer, that trend will only continue. The family lives near Ottery. St. Catchpole, and the kids were introduced to Muggle and wixen cultures from very young ages. It was important to Parvati and Lavender that the family felt united in that, considering there was no promise that all the kids would be magical. They wanted a family that would always put each other first, above anything else. Most of the time, they can be found outside together - playing games (football and Quidditch are the favorites, although theyâre open to a lot of other things too) or gardening (something that their mothers insist all the kids join in despite their protests). If they arenât at home, however, they can be found at Good Omens - the shop that Lavender and Parvati opened together.
Good Omens specializes in fortune telling, catering to both the magical and Muggle worlds. The main shop is in London, and itâs not unusual to find one or more of the children there, helping out. The main entrance is open to all customers, though there is a side entrance noticeable only to magical people. The shop itself also has an entrance to the wixen only room, which is hidden from Muggle eyes. The ladies employ mostly Squibs to man the main shop, as theyâre invested in making life easier for Squibs. They recently added a branch in Hogsmeade where they have fairly steady business, especially during the school year. Kavia has worked in the shop for two summers now, although with her internship, thatâs another thing about to change, and itâs both exhilarating and frightening.
II. Personality: Itâs pretty obvious why Kavia was put into Slytherin: she has always been headstrong and determined, a trait that got her into her fair share of trouble when she was younger (and even now). If either of her parents is asked, they would describe her as stubborn and Kavia readily agrees with that. However, sheâs softly stubborn. Kavia rarely fights outright, rarely does anything obvious to get her way. When faced with opposition, she chooses first to pull together the arguments supporting her side and present a strong front. If itâs not accepted, then she quietly goes about doing her own thing anyway. Professors are often surprised by her rebellion, since she seems to be obedient on the surface. This goes for her morals as well; Kavia will do what she thinks is right without question.
The other word that could best describe Kavia is generous. She grew up watching her mothers support any charity they could - anyone who came to the shop went away with money and neither Lavender nor Parvati ever complained about it. Â In fact, they send a portion of the proceeds to foundations to aid both Squibs and werewolves, or those like Bill Weasley or Lavender herself, who have been attacked and have some minor symptoms without the full affliction. This generosity left a big impact on Kavia and she wants to emulate her upbringing with both charitable giving and making changes in the wizarding world. Her goal to work at the MOM isnât to further her own career just because she wants the power or authority. The wizarding world has made leaps and bounds in coming into the future but Kavia is sure thereâs more they could do, and she wants to be involved in making that happen.
III. History: With her mothersâ blessing, Kavia began looking into her birth family. She wanted to know where she came from. Unfortunately, there wasnât very much to find out: she was taken to the orphanage when she was a year old, under very unclear circumstances, without any real trail to follow from there. Her parents named her Kavia, but thatâs all they left to her - the social worker didnât have a surname or any other information. It was a disappointment to Kavia, and she isnât done looking - itâs postponed out of necessity but in the future, she plans to return to this question. But for the time being, sheâs happy with her family as it is. Her siblings are all she wants, and her mothers have always been there for her. When Kavia first learned to fly, it was Parvati who brought her to St. Mungoâs for her broken arm. Lavender was the one that sat up with Kavia after nightmares. When Kavia realized she was attracted to girls, she and Lavender and Parvati spent a long time together talking about everything. Kavia knew where she came from: the love that her mothers had always showered on her.
