Hey, I was just wondering what chronic illness do you have? I get if it's an intrusive question or something, and you don't have to answer if you don't want to, but I love learning about other people's lives and medical conditions in general (i'm weird, i know lol)!

Hey! Dw about it, I understand the curiosity. I've had severe chronic migraines since I was around twelve years old, along with juvenile arthritis that got diagnosed when I was fifteen.

I also had a rough time in the hospital with severe gastrointestinal issues (I spent +5 months throwing up everything I ate and was very malnourished) but no doctor diagnosed me with anything except "anxiety" and eventually chronic gastritis and an incompetent cardias, but as a consequence of the issues and not an explanation to why they started (I hope that wasn't tmi).

hey! lately I've been having a lot of issues with sleeping at night because I can't find a way to lay without my hypermobility and joints to hurt. and if i do, i can't stay in the same position for more than a couple seconds, so i can't really fall asleep. does anyone have any tricks or advice for this? i would really appreciate it :)

I think the mental impacts of chronic illnesses and disabilities should be talked about more.

Because it's absolutely soul crushing having your body betray you. How can it not have an effect on your mental health? That's not even going over the grief, trouble socialising as a result of how bad your symptoms can get or the constant fear of getting worse.

It's not exactly something thatd easy to just be fine with

being disabled without having a diagnosis yet is so incredibly lonely. i’m unable to find community with people who understand what i’m going through and able bodied people don’t take me seriously when i explain what i’m dealing with. they expect you to be able to give them a name and i can’t yet. it’s so hard to get the proper accommodations and the right supports. it feels like purgatory.

Me the second my pain gets tolerable: surly I'm not actually disabled. I'm just faking it. I had a short burst of pain and I've never ever been in pain never in my life, nope no sir, I should stop limping like I'm in pain cause I don't feel any pain none at all

I've reached new limits of tiredness. I'm not tired anymore, I'm exhausted. No, I'm not even exhausted, I'm beyond that. It's something deeper, like it's ingrained in my bones, in my core. I thought that it was just burnout, but now I'm not sure. Maybe. Or maybe not. Maybe this is really just a burnout, or a symptom of my chronic illnesses, or something else entirely. I don't know. I just know that I'm a teenager and I don't have the energy to get out of bed most days.

I have this unconscious feeling that I can't do anything to help my disability until I get diagnosed, that I just have to suffer through it. And I know that I should start to accommodate myself, and that I should use my mobility aids, but I just feel like an imposter when I don't have a diagnosis. I mean, what would I even say? "Oh, why do you use a cane?" Because my knees hurt? I mean, I could say that I feel so exhausted just by standing up, and that I'm in so much pain when I have to walk even a short distance, or that going up stairs is the worst part of my day. But, in reality? They would just say I'm exaggerating, and I'm also very tired of that.

Something I need people to understand, especially able-bodied people but I've gotten this from other disabled folk as well, is that yeah I could be doing more, but oftentimes I have to choose between doing what's required of me and what's good for me.

Yeah, I probably could get all of my schoolwork done no problem, but I'm so exhausted after just going to school that doing anything more than lying in bed for a few hours would cost me. Can I physically get up? Yeah, I do when my parents demand it of me, but it's not good for me.

I've tried doing more, I've tried pushing myself to do the things that I need to get done, it just doesn't work. I'll just be even more exhausted, I'll just be in more pain, and it's not fair.

Please stop reminding me of my "potential". Please stop telling me that I'm "not trying my hardest". I know that. Sometimes my hardest is hard on me.

i hate going back to bed. i hate sleeping during the day. i hate sitting on the couch all day long. i hate not being in control of the fatigue. i hate having to rest when i don't want to rest. i hate hating this all.

I feel like when chronic illness suddenly gets bad in your teens it's so hard to truly accept the fact that you aren't going to excel as much as you did before you were ill

Over the past year I've started caring for my grades less and less, I'm usually just too exhausted or depressed to study due to my condition and it's almost humbling to watch how I've went from being the fifth in my entire class to not even being able to compete with others..
