Goodbye 2020, Hello 2021
The year 2020 was a strange one. I started the year going to in-person classes at a community college, went online there in March, went to a different school online for a summer chemistry class, went away to school in the fall but only had one in-person class, and ended the year by transferring to a different school, which I’ll be attending in the spring semester. It was a strange year school-wise, without even discussing every single other thing that happened.
I watched the news in January and learned that Australia was on fire. I watched Tik Toks that told me all about the situation with Iran. I kept up with Covid news by watching the Governor’s daily briefings. Over the summer, I watched the social justice protests on Instagram. I sat in my dorm room refreshing the election results on that Tuesday, and got most of my information about the Georgia senate elections from Misha Collins on Instagram. There’s been a lot to keep up with, but social media made it easier (and arguably more stressful, too, but that’s a long post for another time).
It’s all very strange.
I figured 2021 would bring some semblance of normalcy, at least for a few weeks. I did not, in any way, expect day 6 of the new year to bring a mob storming the Capitol building. I have no idea what to expect of 2021 anymore, but I’m not sure I ever really did.
Aside from all of that, I did end up switching majors and schools at the end of the year, and now I’m an English major who wants to be a screenwriter in Hollywood and also write books (Do I want to be a screenwriter because I’m mad about the Supernatural finale? Maybe). Something good did happen this past year, then, and hopefully some more good things will come in 2021.
