The kiss had interrupted his thoughts, stopped them dead in their tracks. It was something that few people had been able to do. Even when he acted like he was reassured, sometimes he was only pretending but he wasn’t with her. Instead of nodding and saying okay though, he said something else entirely, “I love you, Kennedy,” He didn’t know if it was the right time to say it. Was there a right time? He didn’t care. He felt it so he said it. He needed to stop overthinking things.
Kennedy’s heart skipped a beat when Tristan told her that he loved her. While his mind stopped in it’s tracks, her’s raced forward. She cleared her throat. Kennedy knew she should just say it back, but nothing came out of her mouth. She felt like it wouldn’t matter, or it would sound like she didn’t mean it if she said it back after he said it. When she said it, she wanted it to be special. So, in an awkward response, she just replied with a smile and a nod.
