Hey guys is that EARLY SEASONS DESIGN IN THE ILLUSION. IS IT.
For whatever reason Jay’s hair is the only one who actually looks different and more similar to his new design hair, though thats probably because they’re choosing to ignore he ever had ‘straight’ or less curly hair at one point so we’re just gonna ignore that. Lloyd’s hair is also a tad more similar to his new design hair too but again ignoring.
In this scene, Kai is being shown as having reached his brink, desperate to just have his family back, to just be happy again. This makes him an easy target for the monster as it first shows Kai an illusion of Wu, someone who Kai views as wise and like a guiding light for him. Using the illusion of Wu, the monster drags Kai closer to the water, where it shows an image of his ninja, his family.
And it’s not just any random image, it specifically chose one that looked like when they were younger. More innocent. More hopeful. Less tainted.
It was showing Kai a time in which he was the happiest, the strongest. The most hopeful. During a time when he was anything but.
Why this is so important is because through the episodes it’s constantly implying how much Kai is losing himself and how much grief he is in without anyone he cared for nearby for him to protect and love and care for.
And naturally, he begins thinking back. Back to when things were easier, when they weren’t constantly waiting for the next chaotic event that would possibly kill one of them.
You know what’s interesting with older siblings who ‘raised’ their younger ones? They tend to view you in a much younger light, even as you grow older. Because they have the want to protect you for as long as possible even when you don’t need it, because you matter so much to them. I think thats what happened with Kai and the ninja, even if he may not be the eldest.
He wants to protect them as much as possible and he find fondness at the memories of their most purest of selves. He knows they’re all older and that they are all capable of protecting themselves and he is so damn proud of all of them, but he can’t help but look at them and see them as their sweet younger versions.
A Cole with that same silly grin.
A Jay with that dumb nick in his eyebrow.
A Nya still so grumpy yet growing into her own skin.
A Lloyd nervously jumping around with a hesitant smile.
A Zane staring so lovingly as he joins the chaos that was their family.
A Wu with a little smile as he scolds them for doing something stupid.
