What are the Lady Macduff motifs you added to your Basketball design? 👀

Okay. Okay. Okay. So uhh- this is a big ramble. Hang on
When I was making my Basketball gijinka, I wanted to take a lot of inspiration from how Lady Macduff is portrayed in plays. Unfortunately, her portrayals are often inconsistent and intentionally unremarkable, since she's both not a significant role and a representation of typical 1606 femininity. But- I noticed a few constants.
She usually has her hair covered- probably, in part, as a sign of modesty (it's 1606, what do you expect?) But also out of practicality- she's a practical character, she tells her son his father died the second he left so as to not give her son false hope of his return. She's also portrayed wearing fairly plain period typical dress, which is notable since she's upper class (wife of a scottish Thane)
This is how I incorporated these semi-consistent portrayals into Basketball's design;
I also incorporated these Lady Macduff elements through Basketball's intended function- since all of my object pseudo-gijinkas have an intended function. I'll yap more about that eventually.
Anyways- Basketball was originally created to collect lost belongings at a private school before objects took over. This firmly associates her with children- something that mirrors Lady Macduff.
Okay, now here's why I used a Lady Macduff motif for Basketball, since I'm sure that seems like a weird choice.
1: Relationship with others
Basketball and Lady Macduff both are, in part, defined by their relationship to those weaker and less experienced than them. Lady Macduff is defined by her relationship with her son, and Basketball is defined by her relationships with Grassy and Robot Flower. In these relationships, Basketball and Lady Macduff are both portrayed as kind but practical mentor figures to those who have the potential to be powerful (Grassy and Macduff's son).
They are both also killed due to the defiance of their peers. Lady Macduff was killed due to Macbeth suspecting Macduff was a traitor, and Basketball was killed as leverage against Donut by One.
This also is related to both of their deaths- both Basketball and Lady Macduff are seen as disposable by their killers, and have little relationship with them.
2: Characterisation
Both Basketball and Lady Macduff are portrayed as practical, caring and hardworking people, but they are often both overlooked. Basketball is intentionally portrayed as unseen by the narrative, meanwhile Lady Macduff is intentionally undeveloped by the narrative (again. 1606.)
3: Role within the story
Both Basketball and Lady Macduff are portrayed as ideals for audience members to strive towards- they're smart, practical, kind and reasonable. But they're also used by the writers to portray the villainy of their murderers.
See, Basketball and Lady Macduff are both fridged by the narrative. But they're also used as foils to the antagonistic female characters in their stories. Lady Macduff's practicality, caring, sensitivity and contentedness contrasts with Lady Macbeth's cunning, evil, stoicism and ambition. It's a similar case for Basketball and One.
However, during the end of Lady Macbeth and One's arcs, they end up becoming more emotionally unstable, ironically mirroring their victims. Lady Macbeth loses control over herself, her emotions and her mind, causing her death, and mirroring the lack of control Lady Macduff had in her last moments. One also loses control over her emotions, and becomes over-eager to be recognised for her strengths, much like Basketball.
These personality shifts also, notably, occur around the same time as the deaths of Lady Macduff and Basketball, since these deaths mark a loss of control in the lives of the antagonistic female characters.
Lady Macduff dies because Macbeth was impulsive and resisted Lady Macbeth's control, marking Lady Macbeth's loss of power through her loss of control over Macbeth. Basketball dies because One was impulsive and lost control of her emotions- instead impulsively trying anything to get what she wanted. This marks One's loss of control through her loss of planning and cunning. The deaths of these idealistic fridged figures foreshadow the loss of sanity and the downfall of their foils.
