Much to be said about the TERF to tradwife pipeline more generally but I'm in awe of a self-described feminist saying that equality is bad for women relative to "benevolent" sexism.

Feminism is interesting because it just means "whatever is good for women" which no one can seem to agree on and can come to mean simply: traditional gender roles, if taken far enough.

But i do find it interesting how in, for instance, Das Capital Marx talks at length about how the factory system conditions forced women into working. This would occur for the vast majority of the day (12-14 hours) and women would be kept away from thier young children who would often die of neglect or from consuming household opium products accidentally.

Nowadays we can chose not to have children, but that presents some difficult issues for the future... But when Betty Friedan published the Feminine Mystique it was really against the whole first wave of feminism that decried how factory work took women away from thier families and into the workplace. This upper class bourgois woman whos kids were taken care of by maids noticed that her and her upper class friends felt purposeless and encouraged an ideology that devalued motherhood as important work for the production of society at large (probably the most important work that can be done period). Not to mention that the stay at home mom was really a myth before then, and women who did not sell thier labor to the market often did volunteer labor in important institutions like churches, charities, etc.

So I wonder, is this the trick of bourgois feminism? I think the concerning thing about how capitalism turns "the family relation into a money relation" is the coercive effect it has on prompting women to marry, not out of desire for holy partnership but for survival. But the devaluing of womens work because it is not paid for in money by the 'Free Market', is that feminist? Is that whats "good for women"? Its something i think about at times.

And then where does the logic lead, that womens worth should be in pursuing a career, making dollars by creating exchange value (vs use value). Womens value becomes the exchange value she can acess.

This is the central problem for the marriage in capitalist economy, proletarian men work to access money to purchase resources (rather than say, a peasant land holding where husband and wife both do important work to maintain the home, land, and family and procure survival). Since men have more resources women are compelled to marry to acess those resources; womens worth becomes tied to her ability to marry a high earner and associated with the qualities that tend to serve that aim (beauty, charm, agreeableness etc).

The modern system says "the feminist thing now is that a woman's worth will be tied to her ability to earn money or credentials in a career" and what does the ideology lead to: earning money is feminist so sex work is feminist, credentials are feminist so sacrificing your integrity to climb institutional ladders is feminist, heading the state department and destabilizing Libya is feminist, and so on.

Second wave feminism identified a central issue in the capitalist family structure (ie that women lacked acess to resources that could promote autonomy and lead to consensual partnerships). But does the solution work? Is there a solution? Wages for house work? UBI? A shift in values?

Let's take like a conceit from a hollywood movie kind of scenario: if there's an emergency and someone shoves a baby into your arms then you are responsible for it, at least until you can safely hand it off to someone else; there is an obligation there imposed on you simply by the situation you are in and your status as a human being, without there being any kind of "guilt" or debt you have to pay off. This is the sense in which there are moral obligations imposed on you by the general state of the world. It's not that you have done something wrong, it doesn't mean that you have to take on guilt for some shit your ancestors or fellow countrymen did. It is because you are a human being in a society which has the material capacity to enable everyone to live a good life, but then systematically prevents this for vast swathes of humanity, that you have an obligation to try to change the situation, proportionate to your capacity to act.
