Summary: You never proclaimed yourself to be a nice person or good girl because no one expected you to be one. If someone perceived you as one that was their fault. Life wasn't easy but Fez made it bearable.

Chapter 1

*Rue narration is in italics*

If there’s one thing no one understood about (Y/N) Stone, it was why she was friends with Nate Jacobs. Why would such a chill and down-to-earth girl be friends with a guy like him? Simple, they didn’t know the real her. The ones who were unfortunate enough to piss her off and face her wrath gave her the infamous nickname stone cold bitch. She had to be because it made her life easier. And you didn’t hear it from me but when she and Nate were together people called them the East Highland Notorious cause nothing good ever happens when those two were around.

(Y/N)’s parents were addicts. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her parents sober. Its why she tolerates all my bullshit and why she and Nate were so close. She loved wreaking havoc and creating chaos probably cause she couldn’t control the chaos that was her life. But with Nate, she knew just how to pull his strings and make him do most of the work for her while she just sit back and watch.

They also both understand each other’s hatred for their parents but (Y/N) had one nice thing to come out of her parent's addiction. Fezco. Cause of them she got to meet Fez and his grandmother. Her parents sometimes made her go get drugs for them and she would buy them from Fez himself or his grandmother.

They became so close that when his grandmother got sick and he had to drop out she was there for him and helped him out at the gas station. It gave her a break from her life. Not having to listen to Maddy complain about Nate, watching Nate be a dick, and from the waitress job that she hated. At some point when I was in rehab Fez and (Y/N) had grown even closer that she was staying at his place from time to time and her parents wouldn’t even notice. It was like this unspoken rule that she was his and no girl would be stupid enough to get too friendly with Fez knowing what (Y/N) was capable of. However, (Y/N) would never label it, believe it or not as ruthless as she was, she was shy around guys she truly liked and the fear of rejection was keeping her from defining the relationship.

I sat outside the gas station with Fez as he smoked a blunt with my legs laying across his lap. He exhales smoke in my direction with a smirk and I playfully hit his arm. “Stop.” I whine fanning the smoke out of my face. He takes my hand into his planting a kiss on it and I smile shyly. We hear footsteps coming toward us and I slip my hand from his hold and look up to see Rue standing in front of us.

“Thanks a lot, you gave me a secondhand high, and now I’m seeing ghost.” I said as I moved my legs from Fez’s lap.

“I’m not a ghost, dick.” Rue said with a laugh and I shrug. I go on my phone to find out where Nate is while Fez tells Rue about this new girl we’ve been seeing around and how Rue would get along with her.

“So like how are you feelin?” He asked.

“I mean, ever since I gave my life over to my lord and Savior Jesus Christ, things have been, like, really good.” Rue said and I laugh.

“Word? That's what's up.”

“I'm fucking with you. It was a joke.” Rue said with a laugh. “But low-key, is Ashtray in the back?”

“Are you serious?” Fez asked in disbelief.

“What, you think cause I went to Rehab I stayed clean.” She said and I shake my head.

“Well that is the point of rehab.” I said not surprised. I went inside the store and headed to the back. Rue couldn’t function without drugs in her system she was just like my parents. I fucking hate my parents.

“I thought your ass was dead.” Ash said as Rue walked in and she looked at me. “I didn’t start that rumor.” I shrugged.

“Don’t matter y’all come and go I’m just tryna stack my cash and pay my mortgage. So what the fuck you want?” Ash said listing off what he had.

“I’m sorry I have zero fucking idea what you just said.” Rue said. “Yeah, no one does. Just give her the one that’s similar to LSD.” I told Ash.

“Ok.” Rue agrees and Ash tells her it's 120. “Oh, Fez said he'd spot me.” She said and we call bullshit as she leaves.

“Fezco don't spot nobody.” Ash said.

“Yeah, well, it's a post-rehab discount, so you should ask him.” Rue said and I follow her. “I will go ask him, 'cause I know you're full of shit.” Ash said as we leave the back.

“What are you doing after this?” Rue asked me and I shrug. “Waiting on Nate to give me a ride to Maddy’s to get ready for this summer bash that Mckay’s throwing, everyone is supposed to be there.”

“Cool.” She said as we went back outside and see Fez selling to Nate.

“About time, thought you died in a five-car pile-up.” I said to him. “You wish get in the fucking truck.” He said walking back to his truck. “I didn’t hear a please.”

“Yeah right.” He said as I followed him. “I’ll see you guys later.” I said to Rue and Fez before getting in the backseat. “Yo, I’d do it for Rue.” Nate yells to Rue as he pulls off and Mckay shakes his head.

I listen to him and Nate go back and forth about the party and his mom being particular and blah blah. I become interested when Mckay brings up Maddy and if she and Nate were together.

“Cause she’s crazy, I don’t want her to come and burn my house down.” Mckay warns.

“I hope she does burn your house down, then your party will be remembered forever…as the guy who got his house burned down.” I said laughing and Nate joined. “This is exactly what I’m talking about.” Nate said focusing on a blonde girl that Fez and I had been seeing around town riding her bike. Nate slows the truck to her speed and rolls down Mckay’s window “Right here.” He calls.

“How ‘bout you come and ride on this dick.” He says and she flips him off in return. She loses her balance and falls off her bike as Nate speeds away laughing and I just roll my eyes at his antics used to his behavior.

People question how I’m even friends with Nate with all the shit he pulls but I don’t have the answer he’s just always there. Plus some of the shit he does is entertaining and yeah he was an asshole to me too but he was always a person I could call when my parents lock me out of the house or forget to stock the fridge. His family, no matter how fucking picture-perfectly annoying they are helped me out. Hell, the only thing I regret is setting Maddy up with him. I knew what Nate liked in a girl and Maddy knew I could get Nate on her radar, so I did her favor. Believe me, I tried to warn her about Nate’s temper but she swore she could handle him. Although, sometimes I believe she doesn’t know what she got herself into.

Nate drops me off a block away from Maddy’s house not wanting to come into contact with her at all and I greet her parents when they let me in. I go to her room seeing Kat and BB as well saying hi to everyone until Maddy faces me showing me her breast.

“Do my areoles look weird?”

At first, I just look at her, thinking she’s joking, but realizing she’s not, I glance down at her boobs. “They look like areoles.” I comment, and she rolls her eyes, not liking my answer, putting her shirt back on.

“I literally look disgusting. Nate’s totally ruined my confidence.” She says.

“Nate’s a loser who cares?” Kat says.

“He’s not a loser he’s a dick.” Maddy corrects.

“Bottom line, y’all need to walk into this party like your pussy costs a million dollars.” BB said as she goes through Maddy’s closet.

“I’d settle for like four Corona Lights and some non-rapey affection.” Kat answers. “That’s kind of depressing.” BB says waving me over to sit down at the vanity to do my makeup.

“You know when somebody just constantly criticizes like everything about you?” Maddy says going off about Nate.

“Like every guy?” I answer.

“You just need to catch a dick and forget about your troubles.” Kat advises and we all look at her. “Shouldn’t you catch a dick first before telling other people to do it?” I said.

“Seriously, the best thing after a breakup is to fuck someone new and then move on.” Kat continues.

“Remind me again how many guys have you fucked? And cat-fishing don’t count.” BB says and I laugh. “Speaking of someone new, (Y/N)?” BB says and I raise an eyebrow at her as she does my eye shadow.

“What?”

“Bitch, come on we know you’ve been all boo’d up this summer with Fez.” Maddy says.

“We’re just friends.”

“Save the bullshit.” BB said finishing up my makeup. “Ok, so I'm testing the waters. Besides he hasn’t defined what we are and we all know I’m not gonna do it.” I said looking at my makeup in the mirror.

“You’ve been testing the waters for months. Quit being scared and claim your man already.” BB said. “Seriously, it's obvious he likes you stop being stubborn.” Maddy said and I look at her through the mirror. “Why don’t you stop being stubborn and take Nate back already, we all know you’re gonna do it.”

“Bitch, don’t even go there.” She warned ending the conversation in a stalemate.

We finish getting ready and get in Maddy’s car to go to the party. Now I may have seemed like a dick but I hated telling other people my business except for Nate and Fez. Sometimes Maddy depending on what it is. I avoided relationships at all costs cause the guys here are fucking idiots and it wasn’t hard with Nate around keeping them away. Fez was the only exception as he was my distraction from the shitty parts of my life, kind of I mean sometimes I have to buy from him for my parents. I know Fez likes me but I didn’t wanna ruin our friendship if we break up and end up with just Nate to confide in.

On the way, we see Rue walking down the street. “Slow down.” I tell Maddy and point to Rue.

“Wait didn’t Rue, like die?” Maddy said and I look at her confused. “Why does everyone think I started that rumor?” I asked.

“Oh my god, I hate ghosts.” BB said as Maddy pulled over.

“Yo, Casper you want a ride?” Kat asked. “Why, thank you.” Rue answers. I could tell just by looking at her that she was on drugs as she gets in the backseat with Kat and BB.

Arriving at the party Kat and Rue wander off who knows where and the rest of us go to grab drinks. I scope the party for Nate but my eyes land on a blonde guy staring at us more specifically Maddy. Smirking I get Maddy’s attention and casually gesture with my shoulder to the blonde and she gives him an uninterested look. “Don’t you wanna piss off Nate?” I suggest and she smiles deviously giving me the go-ahead. I go over to the blonde greeting him with a smile.

“My friend and I thought you looked lonely. Wanna dance with us?” I asked touching his arm in a flirtatious manner. When he agrees I take his hand guiding him toward Maddy and BB who were already dancing. “Oh, my god I completely forgot to ask for your name.” I said in a dimwitted tone

“Tyler.” He introduces looking directly at Maddy. “Hi.” Maddy says and grabs his hand pulling him towards her. BB and I dance around them and I feel a pair of hands grab my waist making me into contact with someone’s chest. I look over and see the owner of the hand to be Fez. “Been lookin’ for you.” He says into my ear so I could hear him over the music.

“You found me. Now what?” I said turning in his arms to face him and he smiles at my words. “Yo friends don’t mind if I take you away then?” He asked looking over to Maddy and BB who waves us off insisting it was fine. BB sends us suggestive looks as Fez takes my hand and I roll my eyes at her. He leads me outside to the backyard and has a seat on an unoccupied couch pulling me onto his lap.

Straddling his lap he connects our lips in a quick kiss before he looks down admiring my outfit consisting of a halter top and jeans. “Shit, look at you lookin all good.” He kissed my jaw trailing to my neck and I hum in pleasure at the feeling. I reconnect our lips, running my hands along his chest but our actions come to a stop feeling the couch shift as someone plops down next to us.

“Oh, hey Rue.” I greet.

“Hey, don’t mind me keep doing what you’re doing.” She says sounding out of it.

“Come on now bruh, you owe me 120 bucks.” Fez said and I reposition myself in his lap as we were obviously not gonna continue our previous engagement anytime soon.

“Man sorry, I forgot.”

“To be honest, with you, your whole drug shit got me feeling kind of uneasy.” Fez said. “Come on don’t go soft on me, Fez.” Rue said not taking his words seriously.

“I’m not. It’s just that... I like you. And I missed you, bruh. That shit at the beginning of summer had me scared as fuck.”

“Yeah, you and everybody else. Well except for (Y/N).” She said and I nodded my head. “Duh, you’re like a cockroach, you always come back.” I joked. I was scared for Rue after hearing about her overdose but I also didn’t let that shit consume my thoughts. There’s no point in worrying about someone who doesn’t want the help or maybe I’m just a pessimistic dick.

“At least someone had faith in me.” She said with a smile. As she continued talking to Fez I grabbed my phone from my back pocket and went onto Instagram to see if I could find this Tyler guy as I had never seen him around school before. However, as I am I hear a commotion coming from the pool, and giving Fez a quick kiss on the cheek I go over to see. I come to find Maddy and Tyler in the pool making out and Nate watching.

“Yeah that's real classy you fucking whore.” Nate says to her.

“Suck my dick.” Maddy responds making the crowd around react in her favor. I never meant for the plan to go this far but knowing Maddy I should’ve seen it coming. I hear Nate going off in the kitchen and go back inside to see him breaking shit in the kitchen. The girl who was riding her bike earlier was in the kitchen while others were clearing out of Nate’s warpath. “Hey man what’s going on?” Rue asked suddenly appearing next to me.

“The usual Nate’s pissed and he’s about to take it out on the new girl.” I said already filming on my phone. Rue nods her head and like everyone else nearby we watch as Nate starts yelling at the girl getting in her face before she suddenly pulls a kitchen knife on him making Nate back down. “Fuck, new girls got balls. Too bad she doesn’t know what she’s getting into.” I comment.

“Put the fucking knife down! It was a joke!” Nate yells and looks to me for help but I look around wondering why he’s looking to me for help. “The fuck you want me to do? Bitch has a knife and I’m not a hostage negotiator.” I said still filming.

She takes the knife suddenly cutting herself yelling “I’m fucking invincible.” Before backing away from Nate and throws the knife down. “By the way, I’m Jules. I just moved here.”

“Hi Jules.” I say as she leaves the kitchen. “Take back what Fez and I said, that bitch is insane.” I told Rue as I end the video and I go check on Nate.

“You sure know how to pick a fight.” I said and he glares at me. “Shut the fuck up.” He growls shoving past me harshly and past Fez who was coming toward me. “You alright?” He asks me glaring back at Nate before looking back at me.

“I’m fine its normal.” I reassure and pull him into a hug. “Besides you know I love chaos.”

“A lil too much. So like what's your home situation tonight?” He asked me stroking my arm checking if I was gonna go back home or not. “Sleeping over at Maddy’s but I’ll probably go home Sunday. You leaving?”

“Not yet still more money to make and I gotta make sure you leave safely with yo friends.” He guides me backward to lean against the kitchen counter. “You don’t have to do that.” I say kissing him. Our kiss started slow before his tongue slips between my lips and my hands tighten on his shirt bringing him impossibly closer. We pull apart catching our breaths and I stare at him entranced by how handsome he is but I am drawn out by BB calling for me.

“What?” I asked looking over at her and Kat. “We about to go, you leaving with us?”

“Yeah.” I sigh reluctantly not ready to leave Fez’s arms. “I’ll see you later.” He says kissing me one last time before disappearing into the party. I leave with BB, Maddy and Kat going back to Maddy’s. As we’re getting ready to go to bed I get a goodnight text from Fez and can’t help but smile.

I had to wake up around 6 in the morning to leave Maddy’s house and walk home to get ready for work, clean up whatever mess my house was gonna be in, and then get to work on time at 9. I was dreading going home knowing that the house would be trashed or my dad’s junky friends would be there. To my surprise the front door was unlocked when I got home and was repulsed by the smell coming from inside finding it to be spoiled food in the kitchen, while my parents were passed out on the couch, I think. I sigh annoyed and go into my room to grab my uniform and go take a shower.

Before leaving I pack a bag of clothes just in case I decide I don’t want to sleep here tonight, clean up the kitchen, and leave two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for my parents when they wake up. I look over at them once more checking if they were actually breathing before stealing my mom’s car keys and leave for work.

Now I hated working not because I was lazy or hated my coworkers, I hate the fact that because my parents couldn’t take care of themselves or me that I had to choose between sports or having a meal to eat. It was thanks to Nate that I got this job as his family eats here a lot like they have a usual table a lot. Clocking in I immediately get to work taking on as many tables as I can to get more tips and hopefully make the end of my shift come faster. During my shift, Nate came by the restaurant and asked to be sat in my section and I raise an eyebrow at him when I notice him.

“What do you want?”

“Who was the guy with Maddy at the party.”

“You gonna order something with that?” I ask and he sighed annoyed. “And it can’t be water.”

“What about a trip to the mall, didn’t you say you wanted a new wardrobe?” He offers. “Deal. His name’s Tyler doesn’t go to our school or if he does, I’ve never seen him but I found his Instagram. There’s nothing interesting. Hell, he might be in college.” I shrugged.

“That's good enough, what’s his-” He stops talking looking behind me and I turn to see who was there. I roll my eyes seeing one of my coworkers who was this annoying older lady, who for some reason couldn’t go one shift without having something to say to me.

“Can I help you, Susan?” I asked annoyed as I glared at her.

“It’s just really unprofessional to have your friends come by while you’re working and not or-”

“And it's really unprofessional to interrupt someone when they’re in the middle of a conversation. And you're not a fucking manager so walk away.” I said scaring her off. “I can’t fucking stand that bitch.”

After giving Nate Tyler’s social, he leaves and I finish up the rest of my shift clocking out. I count out my tips getting over 100$ which was pretty good for a Sunday. Reluctantly I head home to return the car and probably have to make my parents dinner. “Hey, (Y/N) how was school?” My dad asked from the couch as he watched TV. “It's summer break.” I sigh annoyed putting the keys back. “Right, right hey your uncle Bruce gave us a tip. My parole officer is coming by this week can you help me out?”

“Yeah. Just tell me when.” I said softly, wishing I was somewhere else. They could go weeks without noticing if I’m here or not but when it's time to pee in a cup or go on a drug run all of a sudden they remember they have a kid again. I don’t know when exactly my parents became like this I’m just surprised I made this far in life with their parenting. I order two pizzas for the night for my parents so they could have something to eat in the morning and after paying for the delivery head to the bathroom to shower. As I’m getting ready for bed I get a call from Fez.

“Hey Fez, what’s up?”

“Checkin up on you, hadn’t heard from you. Wanted to know if you want to come over, watch a movie or sumthin?”

“Or something?” I repeated teasingly. “I can’t, had a long day and I gotta be here in the morning for my dad. I would’ve loved to though.”

“What does your dad got you doing?”

“Oh you know the usual, gotta pee in a cup for his parole officer. Plus school starts tomorrow and my house is closer than yours.”

“Then let me drive you.” He offered. "No need to go out of your way for me. I’ll be fine.”

“Nah its nothing, let-” He starts but I interrupt.

“Seriously Fez, it's alright. I can take care of myself. Goodnight.” I hang up not waiting for him to respond. I didn’t want to sound rude but I stayed over with Fez a lot this summer and with school starting again I had to get back to my old routine and not depend on him so much.

Before leaving for school I hand my dad my bottle of pee and in an attempt at affection, he pats my head as he thanks me. I mumble a goodbye to him and my mom before leaving out and I come to the stop in my driveway seeing Fez parked outside waiting for me.

“Hey.” I said getting in his car. “Hey, pretty girl.” He responds.

“Shut up.” I said shyly as I looked out the window as he drove me to school. “I told you, you didn’t have to drive me.”

“I know but sometimes your stubborn ass needs to accept help when it's offered.”

“If you keep this up you’ll make me keep depending on you more.” I said as he parked outside the school. “That’s the point.” He answered taking my hand in his.

“Then I guess you’re never getting rid of me.” I said leaning in to kiss him. “I’ll talk to you later. Tell your grandma hi for me.” After getting out I meet up with Maddy and BB eventually running into Cassie.

“Oh, shit that's the girl who tried to commit suicide at Mckay’s.” BB said as we walked past Jules and Rue. “What?” Cassie asked.

“That is not what happened.” I said.

“Oh yeah I forgot, you guys was both fucking.” She pointed to Cassie and Maddy.

“Why does everybody think we fucked?” Maddy stops to say but we keep walking ignoring her. “Alcohol is not good for me.” She said when she caught back up with us.

“So you did fuck him.” BB said.

“Honestly, I think I blacked out.” She said. While the others look at her worried I gave her a side-eye. We run into Kat and I pull Maddy to the side while Cassie and BB talk to Kat.

“Being I’m the only one who knows better we both know you’re lying and did what you did to get back at Nate. So why are we lying to them?” I gestured to the others.

“Cause you're the only one I trust to keep this between us and from Nate.”

“You’re glad I fucking love you 'cause this shit might blow up in your face.” I said wondering how Nate’s gonna react if he believes that Maddy blacked out, especially with how overprotective he is. Deciding it wasn’t my problem we go over to Kat and Maddy hugs her congratulating her on losing her virginity.

“Damn, did everybody have sex at the party?” I asked holding a finger up to Maddy to silence whatever in-denial BS she was gonna say.

After catching up we head to class and I get a text from Nate telling me he was going to skip today and that he wanted to pay me back for that information I found on Tyler for him. The power of teenagers and social media.

I was hiding out in the bathroom sitting on the counter while waiting for Nate to come get me and when people would come in I would make them get lost, so I could be alone. “Find another bathroom.” I said when I heard someone rush inside and I look up to see Rue who freezes at my words. “Oh hey, Rue don’t mind me just killing time.” I said letting her come in.

“Keep a lookout.” She said going into a stall. “Got it.” I reassured. Not a minute later I hear someone walking in and warn Rue. “Hurry up, someone’s coming.”

“Shit, fuck it.” I hear Rue say before flushing the toilet.

“Rue?” We hear Lexi say as she enters the bathroom. “Never mind it's just Howard.” I said and Rue came out of the stall pissed.

“Are you okay?” Lexi asked Rue. “You are so fucking stupid, Lexi.” She answered.

“Why?”

“Cause I already flushed everything.” She said frustrated. “Damn, what a waste.” I said sarcastically still chilling on my phone.

“I just came to check on you.” Lexi explains. “I don’t want you fucking checking on me, what difference are you going to make? Gonna give me life advice? You gonna fucking help me?” Rue rants.

“Well, you’re one of my best friends.” She says and I try not to laugh at this pathetic scene. Lexi just couldn’t accept that the Rue she used to know is gone. I mean I guess it's sweet she doesn’t want to give up on her but I knew firsthand what a waste of time that was.

“You say all this but what happens when you knock on my door asking me to piss in some Tylenol bottle?” She said.

“Then you piss in the bottle. Cause that’s what friends do. They borrow each other’s pee so they can pass a drug test. At least that's how my family works.” I said as I got down from the counter. “Or learn how to say no for once.” Those are my last words before I leave to go meet Nate and head to the mall.

The mall wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be as Nate was constantly texting someone on his phone. Then he disappeared as soon we got there giving me some cash. I found him on the second floor leaning against the railing staring down at the first floor. Approaching him I match my line of sight with his to see who he was staring at and I see Tyler working at a kiosk. “So this is why you brought me here.” I said setting my bags down to lean against the railing. “What’s your plan to watch him until he gets off?” He nods his head eyes not moving from Tyler. “You’re insane.” I said with a sigh. “Watch my stuff.”

“Where are you going?” He asks.

“You’ll see.” I said and get on the escalator to go down to the first floor. I head toward the kiosk approaching Tyler with a flirtatious smile. “Oh my gosh, hi Tyler. (Y/N) you probably remember my friend more than me.”

“Hey, of course, I remember you, you introduced me to her.”

“Really?” I said in a faux bashful tone. “Then what time do you get out of here?”

“Not for another 4 hours.” He said and I pout at his answer. A customer wanting assistance comes up to the counter and I take this as my chance to leave.

“Maybe I’ll see you later then.” I said leaving before he answered. I take the escalator back upstairs to Nate and my stuff.

“What did you just do?” He asked annoyed. “Helped you out he gets off in 4 hours so it's enough time for you to drop me off and come back to continue your stalking.” I answered picking up my bags and head back to Nate’s truck. On the way to the truck, I noticed he started texting someone again and when we got in the truck I asked, “Who are you texting? I know it's not Maddy since she fucked Tyler.” He glares at me. “Allegedly.”

He shows me his screen of some type of dating app and I see his messages between Jules and shyguy118. “Are you catfishing the new girl?” I asked amused.

“Payback for the shit she pulled at the party.” He said starting the truck to take me to Fez’s gas station. “I don’t know if I would consider catfishing equivalent to pulling a knife on you as payback.”

“It’ll all come together eventually.” He said ominously leaving me intrigued. So I left it at that. Since I saw no point in going back to school for the day I plan to stop by to see Fez and head to work early to not waste the day. I saw Fez chilling behind the counter and he smiles upon seeing me and I smile in return as I lean on the counter across from him. “Thought you was at school?” He asked tucking my hair behind my ear.

“I was but Nate hit me up and we skipped so he could take me shopping in return for a favor I did for him.” I explained and his smile dropped at the mention of Nate. I knew Fez wasn’t a big fan of Nate but he was dealing with it as I was friends with Nate for a long time.

“Next time ask me, I’ll gladly spoil you with a trip to the mall.” He said and I smile shyly.

“Then what would I keep Nate around for?” I joked and outside Nate honks the horn as a message to hurry up and I roll my eyes. “And speak of the devil. Anyway, I just wanted to stop by since I’m going straight to work from here.”

“How’s it going at home?” He asked.

“Besides the empty fridge not the worse, didn’t even know I was gone for the half summer. Or that it was summer vacation at all.”

“Then if you want, you should come over tomorrow night or even stay over again if you want, if that's cool with you.” He offered.

“How’d you know I was missing you already.” I said kissing him. “It's tempting but I don’t wanna bur-”

“You not a burden.” He interrupts. “You been sayin' that all summer and I swear you ain’t. Just let me take care of you.” I can’t help the way my heart races at his words and it makes me wanna scream that he won’t make it official.

“Keep talking like that I’m gonna start calling you my bo-” Nate honks the horn again but this time holding it longer interrupting me.

“What was you sayin?” Fez asked after he stopped and I shake my head.

“Nothing important. Yeah, I’ll come over tomorrow, also I’m gonna get a bag of chips, so I can at least show I thought about him.” I said leaving cash on the counter and grabbing a random bag of chips I go back to Nate’s truck pissed that when I finally had the courage to try and define the relationship he fucked it up.

After work when I get back home I go through my messages and an acquaintance from the cheer team before I had to quit sent me a video link telling me it's Kat in the video. I click on the link and it takes me to pornhub and I start to roll my eyes annoyed thinking I was getting fucked with before the video shows a girl getting fucked from the back. The girl being Kat or someone who looks like- Oh who am I kidding of course it's her don’t even have to see her face to know. I sent the video to Maddy asking her if she’s seen it and she sent it to Kat but she denies that it was her. All I can say is that with this video, Jules threatening Nate with a knife, Nate catfishing Jules in retaliation, and the Maddy and Tyler mess the school year was off to a chaotic start. I love it.

The next morning after getting ready I packed a bag for Fez’s place and made sure I took the cash I had earned throughout the summer with me as my parents sometimes went through my stuff looking for money when I’m not here. I put my stuff in the backseat of the car and went to school. After school, I walked out with Maddy, BB, and Cassie heading to my car but Nate and Mckay were outside waiting on them. So BB and I split from them talking for a while before I went to work. After work, I head to Fez’s house in the rain, and while I’m grabbing my bag from the backseat Rue arrives on her bike soaked. “You came all the way here in the rain.” I said shaking my head and she goes up to Fez’s door knocking constantly flipping off the cameras they had above the door.

“Hey open the door!”

“What do you want?” Ash asked still not opening the door.

“Ash let us in, Rue’s soaked.” I said and going through my bag to give her some dry socks or something as he opened the door. “Yo, who is it, man?” Fez asked. Rue goes in walking straight past him to his room and I give him a wave and sit on the couch.

“Hold on, hold on, you can’t be in here right now.” Fez told Rue and I wondered why it was a big deal she was here.

“I need some, some OCs and some socks.” She said coming out of his room and sits down on the couch.

“I offered you some socks when we were outside.” I remind. “No, you didn’t.” She corrects.

“Damn. You know, I thought about it, I just didn’t say it.” I said putting my bag down on the floor to look for a pair of socks again.

“Rue, I ain’t fuckin’ playing with you. Come on you can’t be in here.” Fez said interrupting our conversation.

“Look Fez, I’m fucking drenched. Okay? And uh… I’m out of drugs. So don’t be a dick.” She says making what she thinks are valid points.

“That’s not my fucking problem. You gotta get up out of my house before these motherfuckers come through.” He explained and I realized why he was acting like this. His supplier guy was on the way and when he came around I stayed hidden in his room but I don’t think Rue could stay quiet until they were gone like me especially when she wanted drugs.

“All I need is a couple OC’s and some Xannies. And why just me? You're not kicking (Y/N) out.”

“Maybe 'cause I was invited.” I said dryly. “Where are your pants?” I asked just realizing that she wasn’t wearing anyway.

“Look that’s all I need and I can be gone.” She begs.

“Yo, I’m trying to tell you, I don’t got shit right now. Like… Come back in a few hours, I got you, whatever you need.” He said but Rue still puts up a fight and they continue going back and forth.

“My guy’s about to come through here. I don’t want you here when he gets here, you understand?”

“That scary-looking guy right? I know the drill.” I said standing up to go to his room attempting to make Rue come with me but it was too late. His phone rings on the table and he looks from it to Rue pissed.

“Rue I could fucking kill you right now. Yo, Ash, they’re here. Look I’m serious, Rue just stay right there keep your mouth shut, and be cool.” He ordered. “These dudes ain’t fucking around.” He pulls his gun out from in between the couch cushions that Rue and I were seated on checking his bullets before returning back to its hidden spot. Rue and I sit back down and I glance over at her seeing a hint of fear as she realizes how serious Fez was when Mouse and his associate I always forgot the name of came in. And as they came in Fez sits on the couch across from us and Mouse’s attention immediately fell on us sitting next to Rue.

“So these your little bitches.” He said and I bite my tongue not to say something smart. “Nah bruh, they’re my little sisters.” He said and I looked to my lap to hide my disappointment at his words.

“Well, hello there lil sisters.” Mouse said holding his hand out to us. Rue gives him her hand and he kisses it doing the same to mind and I begin to bounce my leg nervous. “Yo, Custer toss me that bag.” He starts to tell Fez everything he has which piques Rue’s interest and I nudge her foot with mine shaking my head. Custer runs him the numbers giving Fez the total he has to pay.

“Sure you don’t want no Fentanyl?” Mouse asks.

“Nah, man I’m cool off that shit. There's too many ODs and I don’t want the heat.”

“How about the little sisters? You ever try Fentanyl?” Mouse asked turning his attention back to us.

“I’m a high schooler with a C- average, I can’t even spell Fentanyl.” I said monotone getting my usual courage back and Mouse laughs.

“I see lil sis has a sense of humor.” He turns his attention to Rue. “What about you lil sis?”

“No.” She answers.

“No, she’s good, bruh.” Fez answers for her. “Gonna let big brother talk for you?” Mouse instigates getting irritated.

“I don’t know.” Rue says looking at Fez. “Don’t look at him. Look at me.” Mouse orders putting a sample of it on a blade. “You ever try it?”

“Yo, for real, bruh. I don’t want her fucking with that shit.” Fez tries again to intervene. “I’m, I’m good actually.” Rue said.

“What don’t trust me?” He said and Fez again tries to intervene. “Shut the fuck up, bitch. Ain’t nobody talkin’ to you. Tell your big brother I’m not talking to him right now.” He said and brought the blade of Fentanyl closer to Rue’s lips. “Don’t be scared. It’s not gonna bite you.” Rue looks to Fez who shakes his head and I slightly nudge her hoping to convince her to say no again but in the end takes the drug which works pretty fast. She starts to lay down laying her head in my lap.

“You like the way that feels? You want a couple of patches, girl?” Mouse asks her.

“Okay.” Rue agrees and I look at her worried as he tucks the patches into her shorts placing her leg atop his lap. “It's gonna cost you 300.” Mouse said.

“I only have two dollars.” She mumbles and I look at her like she’s crazy. “Who comes with only two dollars to b-” I catch myself. “Not important.”

“I said 300.” He repeated starting to stroke her leg.

“Where are my pants?” She mumbles. “You took them off.” I whispered to her.

“I’ll just, just give it back.” She said but Mouse didn’t like her answer.

“I got a strict no-return policy.” He placed his hand on Rue’s leg. “Yo, Mouse let me pay for it, man.” Fez said.

“I thought you was too good for Fentanyl. What is it? Everybody’s changing their motherfucking minds on me? If she can’t afford it, she gonna have to find another way of paying me.” Mouse said sliding his hand further up her leg and I roll my eyes to reach for my bag.

“I’ll pay for it.” I said bringing his attention to me, thankfully causing his hand to freeze. “Nah, let me pay for it.” Fez said trying to stop me but I shake my head. “I got it.” I pull out the 300 handing it to Mouse.

“Dang. Your sister must love you. It's gonna cost 600 now.” He told me after counting the money. I roll my eyes again go back into my bag and give him basically all the tip money I earned over the summer. “You got a reliable little sister.” He said to Fez and removes his hand from Rue’s leg and finally leaves along with Custard. After they leave I go to grab the Narcan while Fez and Ash flush the Fentanyl. I put a blanket over Rue and grab her phone trying to figure out where to take Rue as she couldn’t stay here or at mine as both places were stocked with drugs. She can’t go home as her mom would probably kill her and Lexi wasn’t an option as her mom would probably tell Rue’s mom.

“I’m so happy.” Rue says although I could barely hear her.

“Well at least one of us is.” I said annoyed.

“You alright?” Fez asked me when he came back and I nod my head. “Just pissed I just lost a summer’s worth of hard work. I’ll have to survive off my paycheck… Again.”

“Let me pay you back.”

“Don’t worry about it, it’ll just be more money Rue owes you. And I’ll survive. I always do.” I said with a sigh as I kept scrolling through Rue’s phone till I saw Jules and called her. “Hey um this is (Y/N), I’m a friend of Rue’s” I explained to her that Rue was basically incapacitated and needed somewhere to stay as her mom would kill her and Jules agrees to let her stay with her.

“After I drop Rue off I’m gonna head home. I’ll stay another time maybe.” I said ready for this shitty night to end.

“Ar-”

“After what just happened I kinda just wanna be alone.” I explained interrupting him. “Can you help me with her?”

Not pushing it further he helps me carry Rue to my car while I go get her clothes from his room. He lays her down in the backseat and goes to give me a kiss on the cheek but I pull away remembering how Fez doesn’t see me as anything but a friend and get in the car without another word.

“Oh my god. Can you shut the fuck up!” I said annoyed at Rue as she sang along to Hit 'Em up next to me in the backseat of Fez’s car. “Thank you.” Ash said from the passenger seat, not the only one wanting her to shut up. We were headed to a New Year’s Eve party but first Fez and Ash had to stop somewhere for business

“Yeah, Rue, you gotta chill out back there for real. Me and Ash gotta handle some serious business right now.” Fez said. “Yeah, for sure. No, I can do that.” She relaxed into the seat getting comfortable. Rolling my eyes at her I look out the window seeing us pull into an apartment complex that seemed familiar but didn’t dwell on it as I saw Custer with some blonde girl.

“Who the fuck is this bitch?” Fez asked as he got out of the car. After talking for a few suddenly the blonde girl gets in the backseat with us sitting next to Rue.

Fez comes over to my window and I ask him how long is this all gonna take. “Ten, 20 minutes tops, all right? Y'all just please stay in the car. No fuckin' funny business.” He said.

“Oh of course Daddy. We would hate to disappoint you.” I said sarcastically making Rue laugh.

“Don’t be showing out right now.” He warned taking hold of my chin and kissed me. I tell him to be careful as we separate and he disappears into the complex with Custer and Ash. Rue starts talking to Custer’s girl introduces herself as Faye who sounds just as fucked up as Rue is and I try not to go insane listening to their conversation.

“It's fucking New Years? I swear my boyfriend doesn’t tell me anything.” Faye complains and I roll my eyes. “I’m sure a calendar can do just the same.” I snidely remark as I pull out my phone to pass the time. As I am Rue frantically starts tapping my thigh and I glare at her asking her what’s wrong and see Faye stabbing a needle into her thigh.

“What the fuck put that shit up!” I tell her and Rue agrees telling her this isn’t the place for that.

“Listen, I fucking know what you are. You're just a fuckin' junkie-ass bitch, and you're probably fucking eating that ginger's ass for fuckin' oxys or whatever the fuck you're into. Fuckin' junkie-ass bitch.“ She tells us and I start to consider if she is an actual person that exists or if I’m suffering a secondhand high and am hallucinating.

“Okay I’m sorry that took you like three years to get out but I swear I’m gonna kill-” Faye is suddenly pulled out of the car through the window with a hand over her mouth. “Oh shit.” I whisper and the same thing happens to me then Rue. We’re dragged into the complex and the kitchen of an apartment as we each try to struggle.

“What the fuck?! You know you could’ve just opened the door instead of pulling us through the fucking window.” I complained and the guy told me to shut up as he slammed me into the wall the same to Rue next to me.

“Hey man don’t touch my girl!” Fez yelled.

“Oh yeah? Or what? You’re in my fucking house.” A man in a black tank top yells and recognizing the voice I look at him then the guy who had dragged me in here and realize why I recognized the apartment complex.

“B.J.?” I said looking at the guy holding me then glanced over to the obvious ring leader. “Uncle Bruce? What the hell is this?” I asked shoving B.J. off of me once he realized it was me.

“Oh shit Y/N? I didn’t even recognize my favorite cousin. Never seen you all dressed up and shit.” B.J. said and I glared at him.

“I’m not your fucking cousin!”

“Sorry about that.” Bruce said hugging me which I didn’t return. “But you do look different all dressed up with your hair like that.”

“Yeah I got that.” I rolled my eyes.

“Don’t be rude say hi to Laurie.” He tells me pointing to her sitting in a recliner in the living room and I start to disagree until he glares at me.

“Hi Laurie.” I said half-heartedly out of fear and she waved not taking her eyes off the fish tank.

“How’s your dad?” He asked me.

“I don’t know probably breathing or high you tell me. How are you doing? Still on parole?” I asked rhetorically knowing he was.

“You know these people? Cause we don’t associate with anybody involved in illegal activity.” He said.

“Why are you talking like that?” I whisper wondering why he said the last part. “We’re not involved in illegal activity.” He says raising his voice and I raise my hands in a sign of surrender.

“Okay, okay.”

“So you know them or not?”

“Unfortunately. Well except for her.” I point to Faye. “I don’t know that bitch.”

“Well you might’ve gotten lucky.” He says to Custer and Fez. He goes to Laurie who calls him over and I immediately go over to Fez and he takes me into his arms as I’m asking him if he is okay.

“How do you know them?” He asked me.

“They’re friends of my dad. Bruce is the one who tips us off when my dad’s PO is coming. I call him my uncle but we’re not related.” I quickly explained before Bruce came back.

“Alright check this out. Everyone let’s get fucking naked right now.” He said to us and I stared at him in disbelief as he went on about a wire.

“I’m gonna fuck kill you, Custer.” I tell him pissed that he got us into this.

“Obviously I’m not wearing a wire, you paranoid-” Faye never finishes her sentence as Bruce slams her head back against the wall destroying the surface and shutting her up.

“Oh he’s serious.” I said clutching onto Fez tighter as the fear started to set in. Then became worried about Rue who seemed frozen in fear. “Ash, what are you doing?” I said seeing him pull off his jacket and go over to him to pull it back on.

“Right, except for you two. Keep your shit on nobody wants to see you two naked. B.J. put them in the fucking closet.” Bruce orders and Bruce Jr. forces me and Ash down the hall. I protested but it was no use as Ash and I were pushed inside and heard a lock click outside. I can hear Fez yelling but then Bruce yells again and music is turned on and playing loudly. Signing in defeat I sit on the floor and take off my heels.

“Lemme guess they were Mouse’s suppliers.” I asked Ash as he sat down across from me and nodded his head. “Well, this night is fucked.”

“How’d you know?” He asked me.

“If they’re friends with my dad they either do drugs or sell drugs. Except Bruce is smart enough to sell to my dad 'cause he has an unreliable source of income.” We hear the sound of someone else getting dragged down the hall and a shower running. Once it stops B.J. comes and unlocks the door.

“Are we good?” I asked him but he doesn’t let us out yet. “Kid got anything on him?” He asks and we look to Ash who stays silent and I roll my eyes.

“Ash give him the gun.” I said refusing to be locked back in the closet. I push past B.J. and go to Fez seeing him and everyone else still naked he pulls me behind him and asks me over and over if I am okay.

“I’m fine. Where’s Rue?” I asked and I saw her walking back to the kitchen from the hall and was confused as her clothes and hair were partially wet.

“Why are you wet?” I asked concerned and pulled her into a hug.

“B.J., we good?” Bruce asked him as he came back from the closet.

“Yeah, we good. Kid had a Glock on him.”

“Okay you saw us naked, now what?”

Fez and Custer put their boxers back on and go into the living room with Laurie to talk to her and I stay with Rue in the kitchen. We sit together on the counter and I try to talk about anything to take her mind off whatever happened to her in the bathroom. Normally I wouldn’t be this compassionate but I blame Maddy. Ever since she and I agreed to officially stop fucking with Nate it's like I’ve become a decent person…well almost I still have my moments. It's hard to go cold turkey on chaos. I start to run out of things to talk about and stop when I hear Laurie mention Mouse.

“Mouse ain’t gonna be comin’ around no more.” Fez tells her and she asks why. “‘Cause I didn’t like the way he did business.”

“Says the guy who brings a kid to a drug deal.” Laurie said.

“That's not a kid. That's my business partner.” He clarifies.

“Says the guy who brings a high school girl to a drug deal.”

“That's my family.”

“She an addict?”

“She might fuck around, but nah.” He answers then Laurie asks him about me.

“My girl. Gonna be my wife.” He told her and my heart skips a beat.

“So you trust them?” She asked him.

“With my life.”

Satisfied with his answers she apologizes about the trouble and lets everyone get dressed. Then they got down to business and I was counting down the minutes till we could leave. When we got back to the car Fez told Ash to get in the back so I could ride up front with him letting me be next to him. But once we were on the way to the party it was like a reset button was hit on Rue and she was back to her annoying self running her mouth about what happened. My leg started to shake out of annoyance but stopped when Fez put his hand on my thigh to calm down.

“Aye, why you actin' like that shit was fun, Rue? For real. You're pissin' me off. Actin' dumb as fuck right now. Goddamn, all smilin' and laughin' and shit. You know, half of that shit was your fault, too. Fuckin' around, actin' stupid.” Fez said going off on her.

“Sorry!” She apologizes calming down a bit. “I'm j... I'm just saying, serious question. How many female drug dealers do you know?” She asked making me crack a smile.

“She’s gotta point.” I said.

“Good ones?”

”Yes.” She said.

“One.”

“Case in point. I know what I’m fucking saying.” She said settling into the backseat. She stayed quiet the rest of the way to the party, and then we went our separate ways when we got there. Fez and I went inside and he sat down on a couch in the living room pulling me to sit on his lap.

“You sure, you alright?” He asked me again as he lit up a blunt.

“For the hundredth time, yes. I promise.” I said and kissed him. “Are you alright? I was locked in a closet the whole time while you had to strip down.”

“Shit, better me than you. Don’t need nobody seeing how good my girl looks.” He said kissing my neck and I giggled.

“Shut up.” I kiss him again but we stop when Lexi suddenly plops down beside us on the couch.

“Hey Lexi.” I said getting her attention not noticing us beside her. “What’s wrong with you?”

“I got in a fight with Cassie and now she won’t answer my calls or text. Have you seen her?”

“Cassie, not answering her phone? Impossible, but sorry haven’t seen her.” I said shaking my head. Then for some reason, we ended up having like a full-on conversation with her. Like I think this is the longest I’ve ever talked to Lexi.

“Do you, like, not believe in god?” Fez asks her and she shakes her head.

“Damn, Lexi... you fuckin' fearless.”

“For real? I guess we do have something in common.” I said surprised and glancing over the crowd I saw Maddy dancing with a random guy and Nate who noticed me and waved me over. At first, I ignored him but then I felt my phone vibrate in my hand, and knowing it was him I got up telling Fez I was going to get a drink.

“Don’t go too far alright?” He said before letting me get completely off my lap.

“I’m sure the worst of the night is over. I’ll be fine.” I reassure kissing him. I go toward Nate and see Maddy dancing with some guy as I look around. I point to the guy wondering who he was and she just shrugs. When I reach Nate he hands me a cup already filled for me and I push his hand aside.

“No thanks.” I said getting my own drink.

“What, you don’t trust me now?”

“Don’t flatter yourself I don’t trust anyone to make me a drink and why should I when you got me fired cause you told my boss that you saw me stealing other worker's tip money.”

“But that was true.” He said pissing me off.

“And you’re the only person who knows about it and you knew I only stole Susan’s tips because she wouldn’t stay out of my business.”

“So much for you trying to be a less shitty person.” He comments and I roll my eyes.

“I am except to you. You get to keep seeing the shitty person I am.” I said as we looked over the crowd of the party. In which I see Cassie going off with McKay. Which confuses me as I heard they broke up and remember that Lexi was looking for her.

“Being a good person isn’t gonna make your boyfriend stay with you.” He said trying to get a rise out of me.

“Never said I was trying to be a good person and trust me I’m not worried about Fez going anywhere.”

“You sure about that?” He said gesturing to Fez and Lexi laughing on the couch and then she handed him her phone. “Nothing wrong with having friends. Plus I’m not threatened by the Howard’s, especially Lexi.” I become relived when I see McKay walk over and deflect the attention off me to him.

“What you’re such a loser you couldn’t find a college New Year party to crash?” This is exactly why I shouldn’t hang around Nate anymore he brings the worst out of me. Anyway turned out he came to try and get back together with Cass but Nate made it weird by asking McKay over and over where he came on her.

“What the fuck is wrong with you?” I asked as he kept pestering McKay. McKay pushes Nate off of him causing him to run into me and my drink spills onto the front of my dress. “What the fuck McKay?!” I yelled as he walked off and surprisingly Nate apologizes but I was too pissed to care.

“Fuck you too this is your fault.” I put my now empty cup on the counter looking at my ruined white dress that was stained and starting to become slightly transparent.

“Here.” I hear Fez say handing me his sweater to put on. “We finna go. Meet with Ash at the car.” He said in my ear so I could hear him over the music.

“Why? We’re gonna miss the countdown.” I complained as I put on the sweater.

“Just go.” He said not looking at me but at Nate who just smirked at him.

“Okay?” I said unsure. I made my way through the crowd but didn’t get too far as Maddy stopped me throwing her arms around me pulling me towards Cassie.

“Maddy stop, I gotta go.”

“Where? The countdown’s gonna start.” She said and looking back at Fez I see him still with Nate and shrug. What’s ten seconds?

I stick around and countdown with them and as everyone starts to cheer we hear glass shatter. Turning around we see Nate on the ground being punched over and over by Fez. “Oh my god.” I was frozen in place as I watched the scene. Maddy and Cassie yell at him to stop, Cass attempts to pull Fez off and he shoves her off continuing his assault pulling me out of my frozen state.

“Fez! Fez stop!” I shout rushing over and grabbing his shoulder. Hearing my voice his punches slow down coming to a stop and getting up we leave the party. When we get to the car we get into the backseat and Ash drives off.

“What the hell was that?” I asked him as I inspected his bloodied hands.

“For all the shit he put us and your friends through.”

“Fez…” I sigh appreciating the reason but not looking forward to the possible consequences. “His dad is gonna freak but if he’s smart he won’t tell him anything and the cops won’t get involved.”

“How you know he won’t?” Ash asked.

“Cause I know a secret that can ruin his family’s life.”

“What about everyone at the party?”

“No one gives a shit I’m sure there are a bunch of people at that party who wanted to beat the shit out of him.” I said not seeing anyone saying anything unless Nate’s dad gets involved I’ll worry about it.

When we got back home Fez and I went to the bathroom so I could look at the damage done to my dress and clean up his hands. When I took off Fez’s sweater quickly realized there was no amount of bleach in the world to save it. Focusing on Fez I sit on the bathroom counter and grab some stuff to clean up his bruised knuckles and he stands between my legs. It became difficult to do as he couldn’t keep his hands to himself.

“Stop," I laughed, playfully nudging him away from my neck. "I'm trying to clean up your hand. Besides, I probably smell like whatever spilled on me."

“I ain't bothered by that," he said, his voice filled with longing. He interrupted me from applying ointment and resumed kissing my neck, his other hand sliding down to the zipper on the back of my dress. “Let me take care of you now,” he whispers in my ear as the dress loosens on my body. Slowly, he pulled it down, his kisses trailing to my chest, evoking a gentle hum of pleasure from me. With a gentle yet confident motion, he removed the rest of my dress, leaving me there in nothing but my underwear. I wrapped my legs around him, pulling him closer, and felt his arousal pressing against me.

Anticipation caused me to bite my lip as he removed his shirt and leaned in to connect our lips in a passionate kiss. He then made his way from my neck to my breasts and further down, reaching my underwear, which he gently pulled down my legs. A soft, tantalizing moan escaped from deep within me, echoing through the room as he expertly traced a path of tender kisses along my inner thigh.

I skipped school for a few days scrapping for cash doing odd jobs for my parent's junkie friends which really wasn’t much but it was a start.I forged an excuse note with my mom’s signature for school to turn in and got a million questions for suddenly being MIA when I arrived.

“Where the hell have you been?” Maddy asked and I explained the shit Nate did a few nights ago.

And they only have until this weekend to pay up.”

“Why the fuck would I be thinking about the dance right now? Besides I’m not in a dancing mood.”

“Come on don’t say that, you saved up all that money just to buy a dress.” Maddy reminds me. “Don’t let it go to waste. It’ll be a night of dancing and fun with the girls.”

“Gotta take care of business. I know.” I finished for him. Reluctantly we separate and taking my hand he walks me to Nate’s truck and as we get closer I notice someone in the front seat that wasn’t Maddy.

“Who the fuck is this? Where’s Maddy?” I asked, looking at the random blonde with her bare feet propped up on the dash.

“My date. Now get in.” He was clearly annoyed and uninterested in the girl next to him.

“Tell her to move so I can.” I said wanting the random out of the front seat. Like I was gonna ride in the back.

“I’m right fucking here.” She said and I rolled my eyes.

“Good so you’re not deaf. Now get the fuck out.”

“No. You get in the back. I was here first.” She said and I snapped. Obviously, she didn’t know better and I turned to Fez. “Please?” I said handing him my clutch. “Like you’re one to talk?” I laughed, grabbed my clutch back from Fez, and apologized for the scene.

“Text me when you get there.” He said and I nodded my head. The entire way there we all sat in silence just listening to the radio. I was still calming down from the altercation with Blondie in the backseat and wondering why no one cared to tell me that Maddy was not with Nate…again.

Arriving at the dance I immediately found everyone sitting at a table together and sat next to Maddy. “Mind telling me what the fuck I missed in the life of Maddy that made me fight a blonde girl that appears to be Nate’s date and not you.” I said.

“What? Who the fuck did he bring?”

“I don’t know some blonde that I fought in your honor.” I joked.

“What?” She said, confused.

Taking a sip I quickly realized that this wasn’t just Gatorade but had some type of alcohol in it. The bottle is then taken out of my hands by Jules who takes another sip before hitting the dance floor with Rue.

“I'm gonna do everything in my power for at least the next three years to not fall in love.” Cassie suddenly said and I laughed.

“Sure, Cass.” I said as it was basically in her DNA to fall in love with every guy she dates.

“What if you do?” Kat asks her.

“Intervene and fucking destroy it.” She responds and a moment later Kat gets up and disappears into the crowd leaving me with the Howard sisters; which is not my favorite scenario. Especially since I’m not the nicest to Cassie and sometimes Lexi. I grab my phone from my clutch and text Fez about how I hate that he convinced me to come to this stupid dance because just as I thought I would not have a lot of fun. Even watching Nate and Maddy embarrass themselves wasn’t entertaining anymore. I stand up from the table and head outside for some air and for once away from the drama.

I try calling Fez when I get outside since he didn’t respond to my message and when it goes straight to voicemail I assume he’s with Mouse and put it back in my clutch. In my peripheral, I see someone standing next to me, and seeing Nate I look around and see he was alone.

“What? You let Maddy outdance you?” I said not really expecting an answer and went back to staring at the distance. “Why’d you do it?”

“Do what?”

“Call the cops.” I said.

“Your drug dealer boyfriend threatened to kill me. You should’ve warned him to stay out of our business.”

“I did but a little death threat doesn’t mean get his house raided! Fuck Nate you know how shitty my life already is and Fez is the only person that distracts me from it. So when you fuck with him you’re fucking with me too.” I said.

“I thought I was the only person that distracted you from it. Before him I took you in when your parents were off getting high, leaving you to starve, and I’m the one that you got you you’re fucking job.” He reminds and I roll my eyes finally looking at him.

“Maddy did the same to Nate and she didn’t get Fez’s house raided after he stepped on her toes once! Through all of the shit we did together, I knew it would take a lot for me to hate you. But after that shit with Maddy at the carnival and now with Fez; I almost want to kill you myself.”

“But you won’t.” He says arrogantly knowing I won’t.

“I won’t cause you’re still my highest playing card in this fucking town.” I said still needing him in my corner at least until high school was over.

“And you’re mine.” He agrees and to my surprise, I think we just made up.

“Now go make up with Maddy or take the blonde home 'cause you both look embarrassing out there.” I said and he laughed. “Seriously Nate fuck with Maddy or Fez again, I will set your house on fire…actually, I won’t do that. I’ll set your truck on fire. I’ll get less time in jail for that.”

“So he’s the reason Fez got his house raided?” Rue said from behind us, making us turn around.

“We have no idea what you’re talking about.” I said as a reflex when Nate or I are guilty of something. “Sorry, reflex. What’s your point?”

“You ever done anything illegal?” She asks Nate.

“You talking about your friend Jules?” He asks her.

“Actually I'm talking about your Dad.” She said making me raise my eyebrow curious as to what she has on Nate that I don’t know about.

“I just wanna make sure you've given it some forethought. I know over the years you've lost some brain cells. I wouldn't want you to say something you might regret.”

“Better be good Rue or you’ll seriously regret it.” I warn.

“You gonna ruin my life? I can do that a lot better than you can.” She said not backing down.

“What do you want, Rue?” He asks her.

“I want you to leave Fez alone. And Jules. If you ever fuck with them again, I'll destroy your life. I'll destroy your dad's life. I'll burn your whole shit to the ground. Because I personally have no problem walking into any police station and telling them that Nate Jacob's daddy likes to fuck little kids.” She said, making my jaw drop.

“No way? No wonder you’re family’s so fucked up. No wonder you’re so fucked up.”

“Go the fuck inside.” He orders and I refuse.

“You look very pretty tonight.” He said and I rolled my eyes. “I’m not Maddy.” I responded letting him know that that wasn’t going to work on me. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out his wallet and hands me almost fifty dollars in cash.

“And this is all the money you brought?” I ask and he glares at me.

“Alright, alright, I’m gone but I’m not forgetting what I heard.”

I stuck around the dance for another 10 minutes or so before telling Maddy and the others that I was gonna go and walked back to Fez’s house. Which I regret as my feet started to hurt in my heels. Walking up the driveway I notice another car outside the house and assuming it to be Mouse’s I hesitate to go inside but when I’m standing outside the front door I hear yelling and curiosity getting the better of me unlocking the door I go inside quietly hoping to sneak in unnoticed. However, when I get inside I see the reason for the commotion coming from Mouse’s body unmoving on the floor and his sidekick on the floor holding his bloody nose groaning in pain. Then looking at Ash I see the hammer covered in blood in his hand.

“Holy shit Ash, what did you do?” I asked, dropping my clutch on the floor in shock.

“Fuck what are you doing here?” Fez asked me.

“Uh, the dance turned out to be super lame so I came back…obviously a little too early.” I said unable to take my eyes off of Mouse’s body. “Wh-what are you guys up to?” I try my best to sound nonchalant. Fez comes towards me attempting to block my view of everything but I step back assuring him I’m fine.

“I’ve seen worse.” I said and they gave me a look. “Okay, I haven’t but I can officially say I have.”

“How are you so calm?” Ash asks me.

“Why are you so calm? You just maimed a guy with a hammer, which is very barbaric of you.” I said taking off my heels getting over the initial shock of a dead body in the room. “Anyway, what are you two gonna do about him?” I point to Custer who was still crying in pain on the floor. “Actually don’t tell me. Just figure it out by the time I take a shower get changed, and question when our lives turned into this.” I gesture to the two bodies on the floor as I walk past toward Fez’s bedroom.

Closing the door I lay on the bed taking a deep breath in and out to not freak out and keep a level head. Out of all the bad things and secrets I was taking to the grave this one made me reflect on the kind of person I was and start to believe in karma…Then I snapped out of it telling myself this was worse for Fez and Ash and I needed to support them any way I could

Stripping out of my dress I took a shower and took the time to think of how many ways to dispose of a body and not get caught like a bunch of idiots and what to do about our witness Custer as he was Mouse’s business partner. I ended up spending almost half an hour in there before getting out. After I get out and change I return to sitting on the bed and grab my phone to distract myself from reality just a little longer before I have to face it. Which wasn’t long as a few moments later Fez and Ash came inside the bedroom and sat on either side of me.

We sat together in silence for a few moments before I broke it, “So your plan was to kill him because you didn’t have the money?”

“A lil’ more complicated than that.” Fez said and explained what he did tonight after I left for the dance. Which explained why he didn’t answer his phone and that Ash attacking Mouse wasn’t supposed to happen.

“Wow, remind me to never piss you off.” I said putting my arm over Ash’s shoulder hoping to lighten the mood. Although I could tell Fez was still mulling over tonight.

“I’m not trying to say that killing him was right but the survival of the fittest you know. I mean you two are in the drug business so murder was just around the corner, don’t you think?” I ramble thinking out loud.

“I don’t know. Maybe.” He said not convinced. So deciding to level the playing field I tell him the horrible shit I’ve ever done with Nate to my parents, to the people at school, and what I did to Maddy.

“Probably the worst thing I’ve ever done was set Maddy up with Nate… I knew Nate had like serious problems, but he wasn’t that bad to me. I mean I would come home with a bruised wrist once in a while but we weren’t in high school yet I thought he’d get over it. So that night at the carnival when he choked Maddy that was the first time probably ever that I hated myself so much that I wanted to die because I put Maddy in that situation.”

“You knew he did it?” Ash asked me and I nodded my head as tears started to spill from my eyes.

“Yeah lied to the police and everything because that's what Maddy wanted, she was so in love with him that she forgave him. That's why I was acting so off on Halloween. That morning at the station Maddy lied and identified this innocent guy as the one who attacked her at the carnival. I felt so fucking guilty that we ruined this guy’s life but it seemed like I was the only one that cared.” I said taking a breath to wipe my tears and Fez took me into his arms cuddling me as I calmed down.

“It felt weird cause I usually live for ruining somebody's day or whatever but when I saw how the three of us ruined that guy’s life. It wasn’t as fun anymore…”

“We all do some bad shit but you can still be a good person.” Fez said as he stroked my back affectionately.

“Oh trust me I don’t believe there are good people in this world. If I did my friend group would be very different. I know I’m a shitty person but it wasn’t until a few weeks ago that I realized I didn’t wanna be anymore…Oh my god, I think I just had a breakthrough. “Okay look let's take at it one step at a time okay, you can’t just change your friend group overnight.” I said defensively. “By the way what are you guys gonna do about Custer?”

The day of the party Fez and I slept in the morning until I was woken up by Maddy calling me. “His name is Fez and I didn’t move in with him. Anyway since when the fuck do you care about Maddy and I- never mind, I gotta go but I’ll call Maddy when I get off. If that helps you score ‘I’m not a dick’ points.” I said closing the door. I watch him drive off still put off by the conversation. As I’m working almost halfway through the shift I realize what Nate was going to do.

It's an old scare tactic we did years ago to my parents so that I could get my dad and his creepy friends out of the house so I could sleep peacefully at night for once. I told Nate to call in a tip to the cops about drugs at my house one night when I was gonna be sleeping over at Maddy’s. After that, the police arrived and raided the house and my dad and his friends got arrested, we did it the night I knew my mom would be at work so both of them wouldn’t get arrested, and ever since my dad was wary about inviting his friends over still thinking that one of them was a snitch.

“I don’t know it took me a while to realize that he was gonna do it but it's gonna be tonight. I’m trying to figure out what made him do it.”

“It's my fault I said some shit to him in the store about Rue and-”

“Why?! I told you to stay out of it! When he’s threatened he’s going to retaliate. Fuck.” I said frustrated and I heard banging in the background.

“Fez?”

“Fuck, they’re here I’ll call you back!” He said hanging up and I stared at my phone blankly feeling drained and scared. I went back inside the restaurant to finish serving my last table before going home claiming I was sick. Gathering my stuff I’m at a loss about what to do and where to go, so I walk back to my parent's house dreading the state of it when I get there.

While walking I can’t help but worry and feel guilty about Fez getting raided and knowing that none of this would have happened if I wasn’t around Fez. Fez was the only nonchaotic part of my life that I had and now I was starting to bring that tornado of trouble into it. Maddy, Nate, and I had done some foul shit, and I couldn’t drag Fez into that. I knew what I had to do but I was dreading going to have to do it.

When I got home I was relieved my parents were already passed out on the couch for the night. I went straight to my room practically dropping my stuff on the floor and changed out of my uniform. Coming back out I took my mom’s car keys and rushed outside to go to Fez’s house. On the way there my phone rang and I immediately answered it seeing Fez’s name on the screen.

“Hey, is everything okay? Are the cops gone? Or is this your one phone call after they arrest you, cause I don’t think I can make bail? Unless you give me 24 hours. Wait, are the lines recorded?” I asked bombarding him with questions.

“It's all good they found nothing. Got rid of it all before they got in.”

“What are you gonna do about Mouse? You had to flush everything. How are you gonna pay him back?”

“Ash and I will figure it all out. Don't worry a-”

“I should, it's all my fault.” I said interrupting him and parked in front of his house.

“That might be the stupidest shit you’ve ever said.” He said making me sober up out of my depressed state and look at him obviously offended.

“Excuse me, I just poured my heart out to you and put myself through this heartfelt ultimatum, and that's what you have to say?” I asked feeling the tears that were once threatening to fall suddenly dry up due to the slight irritation coursing through me.

“Nah I get that but this shit ain’t worth breaking up over. I mean yo friend is an asshole for the shit he pulled but that ain’t your fault.” He reassured pulling me inside and closing the door.

“What the fuck Fez?! I had this whole speech ready and everything.” I whined crossing my arms annoyed.

“Damn you put that much thought into dumping me?”

“It's not like I wanted to! I just thought with the stress of the whole situation the idea of it might be in your head and I couldn’t blame you if it was.” I explained.

“It's gonna take a lot more than you think for me to even think about ever breaking up with you.” He said enveloping me in a hug that I returned sighing in relief. Forgetting that Ash is also here we hear him clear his throat to get our attention and we separate to look at him.

“Now that you’re done making up or whatever bullshit that was, what are we gonna do?”

“I have no idea.” I said truthfully having no idea how we could make up that kind of cash in less than a week. I mean I had some ideas but they weren’t legal and definitely not possible without getting arrested. Ash and I looked to Fez for any ideas and he reassured us he’ll figure it out but it was hard to believe him. Especially when life had been too good to us lately and it had to humble us in the worse way.

“What?” Maddy asks me as I looked at her purple two-piece with cutouts on the sides.

“You look hot but Nate’s gonna hate it.” I warned before we walked into the carnival. “What his parents think is important to him. His family is like the definition of picture perfect and he’s not gonna let you around them dressed like that. You think I wanted to dress like a boring soccer mom?” I gestured to my outfit consisting of a plain white long-sleeve shirt tucked into my black and white plaid tennis skirt.

“Okay that’s you miss. Obedient, and bitch you still look cute.”

“That might be the meanest thing you’ve ever said to me.” I hate being called cute. “I feel like I have no identity if I’m not showing a little bit of cleavage.” We wait at the Ferris wheel for Nate until he calls Maddy saying he doesn’t see us and turns out there were two Ferris wheels so we go to look for him. Rounding a group of people I see him and point him out to Maddy.

“Here we go.” I sighed seeing Nate coming towards us eyes on Maddy as he hangs up the phone.

“Yo, why are you dressed like a hooker?”

“What?” Maddy responds offended.

“Jesus Christ, Maddy I’m here with my parents.”

“So what? It’s the carnival.” She said.

“No. Its the chili cook-off. It’s very important. I can’t have you hanging out at the booth dressed like that.”

“Yeah, well maybe it’ll sell better.” She said.

“Chill out, it's just some clothes. Also you’re taking this cook-off too seriously. Especially when your dad wins every.fucking.year.” I said the last part dryly.

“Yo, this isn’t a fucking joke, okay? And you.” He points to me. “You get that manicure.” He asked and I roll my eyes showing him the fresh manicure I got earlier today.

“Why are you being like this?” Maddy asked him annoyed.

“Listen my parents already don’t like you.” He confessed.

“What?” She asked in disbelief looking from him to me and I look around nervously avoiding her gaze.

“Did I forget to tell you that?” I mumbled and Nate sighs frustrated.

“Go home, get changed, and come back looking like a fucking person.” He orders storming off back to his family's booth.

“Go home.” I repeated in disbelief and I shake my head. “Fuck him, his parents aren’t all that anyway.”

“(Y/N) come on!” He yells at me and I roll my eyes. “Give me 10 minutes I’ll meet up with you later.” I told her not wanting to stick around anyway since Nate's in a bad mood and head over to the booth.

I greet Nate’s dad and brother and Nate introduces me to his mom who I exchange pleasantries with before sitting down with Nate. “You need to apologize to Maddy for being a dick.”

“You know how my fam-”

“Shut up, shut up.” I interrupted nudging him seeing Cassie and Mckay coming and Nate smiled sensing the trouble I wanna cause. “Yo, what’s up brother? How you doing man?” Mckay said to Nate as he approached the booth.

“You guys look so cute together. Going strong I see.” I said planting the seed and Nate follows.

“What are you… Are you guys like in a relationship?” Nate asked him.

“Nah, we’re just chillin'.”

“Really?” I asked seeing Cassie's pissed look.

“Yeah, we’re chillin'.” He confirms again.

“Okay, okay.” Nate said.

“Why haven’t I seen you on the field?” Nate’s dad asked and I suck my teeth irratited at the interuption. As we listen to his dad basically lecture Mckay about his drive I quickly grew bored of the football talk and sneak off to find Maddy.

“How’d it go?” She asks me as we walked around and I shrug.

“The usual, a little small talk, a little terrorizing of Cassie and Mckay.”

“Do you have to be such a cunt?” She asked.

“To Cassie? Sometimes, it builds character.”

“Whatever, excuse you have to be a dick.” She said and I don’t disagree. “Where’s your man at by the way?”

“Not sure around here somewhere.” I said looking around and we saw Cassie sitting by herself like a lost puppy.

“Hey.” Cassie greets.

“Hey. You're not having fun?” Maddy asks.

“No.”

“Me either. Wanna do Molly?” She suddenly asks her and I look at them like they’re crazy as they go to find Fez.

“Right, 'cause that's a completely normal thing we do now.” I said to myself as I caught up with them. When I do I hear Cassie venting to Maddy about Mckay and she glares at me and I smile at her unbothered.

“And you didn’t fucking help the situation either.”

“Cassie it's not my fault that Mckay doesn’t have the balls to stand up to Nate and defend your relationship.” I said explaining my twisted ways as I spot Fez and led them toward him. “I just enjoy playing the devil’s advocate.”

Fez pulls me into a hug as we approach him leaving his hand around my waist when we pull apart and I feel Cassie and Maddy’s eyes on me before turning back around. “So, are you guys like in a relationship?” Cassie asks repeating the exact words I said to her.

“You don’t have to answer her.” I said glaring at her.

“Just returning the favor.” She says with a smile.

“See? It builds character.” I said to Maddy proving my point. “Anyway, they're looking for Molly.” I told Fez to get rid of them.

“She over there workin' at the pretzel stand.” Fez told them passing Maddy a ticket and thanking him as they left for the stand.

“So, Ferris wheel?” I ask reminding him how he promised me we would ride it together and nodding his head we hold hands on the way toward the Ferris wheel.

“How long till you gotta go back?” He asks. “Not until they announce the winner of the chili contest.” He nods his head. As we were in line I notice how quiet he is and he still was as we got in the cart.

“Is everything alright?” I asked breaking the silence. “Be real with me for a sec.” He said and I nodded my head. “Why ain’t you tellin' yo friends we’re together? Are you embarrassed or something.”

“Oh my god Fez, of course not.” I interrupt. “I didn’t answer 'cause it's not their business to know, and since we’re trying to take it slow I didn’t wanna go around saying we’re together and then it not work out in the end.”

“Baby, I’ve been wantin’ to call you mine for months but the way you never gave a straight answer when yo friends asked I thought you wanted it to be a secret.”

“It's not an easy conversation for me to bring up. Especially when your friend is Nate, who always has something to say about everyone and everything I- that doesn’t matter.” I cut myself short not wanting to get into my complicated friendship with Nate. “I would love to tell people that you are my boyfriend.” I said proudly cuddling into his side.

“Good cause its gonna be that way for a long time.” He said kissing me and I melt in his arms as we reach the top.

“I love the view from up here, even if there’s really nothing to see.” I said as our cart stops at the top. “It makes me forget about my parents and well everything…for a while at least.

“I can help with that too.” He kissed me trailing his lips to my jaw and resting a hand on my thigh just below the end of my skirt. “You are a pretty good one too.” I whispered connecting our lips again. He places his hand on my neck bringing me closer to deepen our kiss quickly stopping as the cart starts to move again.

As the ride comes to an end we got off and we walk around for a while occasionally getting stopped by people who ask for ‘Molly’ and he gives them tickets to his stand. He goes with me to watch Nate’s dad as he unsurprisingly gets the award for the chili cook-off. There was already a crowd formed as they were about to announce the winner. I get us to the front and he stands behind me with his arms wrapped around my waist as I cheer and clap when they announce Cal as the winner, like every year. As I am I see Maddy who is front and center in the crowd clapping looking seriously pissed and with Molly in her system probably feeling even more confident than she already was. I envy that bitch sometimes.

Anyway, it means just like at Mckay's party she’s gonna do something to embarrass Nate but this time in front of his parents.

“This should be good.” I tell Fez as I pull my phone out to record her as she approaches the booth.

“Yeah, I’m not supposed to be here right now, because I’m dressed like a hooker, and none of you like me, but I just wanna say congratulations.”

“Maddy, get out of-” Nate said but was shut up by Maddy knocking over the pot of chili. “What in god’s name is your problem?” His mom said to her.

“You cunt.” Maddy answers earning oh’s in the crowd. I stop recording and slip out of Fez’s arm to stop her from doing something else she’s gonna regret.

“Okay Maddy, it was funny at first but now you called his mom a cunt.” I whispered grabbing her to get away from the stand and the crowd. Nate gets from behind the booth and roughly grabs her arm pulling her away from me. I call after him but he ignores me pulling her off somewhere.

“Yo, friend gonna be alright?” Fez asks me.

“Yeah, they get in fights like this all time, I was gonna try to help her out by blaming it on the Molly but he’s too pissed to listen.” I said trying to play it cool but was actually super worried. “I’m gonna catch up with them, I’ll meet you back at the pretzel stand.” I told him going to look for them.

Going in the direction I saw him take her I go towards some trailers where I run into Jules. “Hey, have you seen Gia?” She asks me. “What, Rue’s sister? No. Have you seen Maddy or Nate?” I asked and she shook her head and we went our separate ways. I finally found them in a secluded area between some trailers and I released a sigh of relief seeing that she was okay. “Maddy you alright?” I asked ignoring Nate and she nodded her head.

“Waiting on him to explain why he has someone else’s dick on his phone.”

“Yeah that is pretty strange.” I said looking at him for an explanation as well.

“Look I’m going through some shit right now, and I just need you two to promise me you won’t tell a soul.” Nate said looking at Maddy apologetically.

“Duh.” I answered.

“I’m not gonna tell anyone, I promise.” Maddy told him.

“Like, on your life.” He said and we nodded our heads.

“Yeah, on my life.” She swears as they hug each other but as they do she gives me a look of uncertainty and I look at her in concern over not knowing what that look means. My guess is either she already told someone or something happened before I got here.

“I’m sorry I got so angry at you before.” He apologizes to Maddy. “I’m sorry. Maddy, I love you.” He begins a pathetic excuse of having shit going on as he cuddles into Maddy’s arms and I meet her eyes, rolling my own at the bullshit he’s spewing. He eventually leaves, leaving me with Maddy and I pull her into a hug asking her again if she’s alright and she nods her head wincing in pain as she does.

“Are you sure?” I ask as we pull apart seeing her neck was kind of red but she swears she was and I just brush it off and just blame the crappy lighting and it being dark outside. “Well, you wanna ride with me and Fez back home?” I ask as we head back toward the carnival.

“No, I’m good. I’m gonna find Cassie.” She told me and I nodded my head.

“Okay and don’t let whatever Nate said to you before I got here bother you. Okay? And make sure you eat something the side effects of Molly suck if you don’t.” I remind her before we split up and I go to the pretzel stand finding Ash and Fez packing up.

When we get back to Fez’s house Ash disappears to his room to count the money they made tonight while Fez was on the couch doing the same thing but quickly grew distracted when I sat down next to him kissing his neck. Eventually giving in he connected our lips and I lay back on the couch bringing him down with me. I move my hand from his shoulders sliding them down his chest to the end of his shirt placing them underneath it and glide my fingers along his abdomen. I bring one of my hands down to his jeans and he suddenly grabs my hand stopping me from going any further and stops kissing me.

“I gotta finish counting these bills.” He pulls away from me and sits up. “Like right now?” I asked him confused as to why we stopped just for him to count his money.

“Yeah I gotta this done, alright?” He said not looking away from the table.

“Okay?” I answered still confused and went to his room to change and take a shower. When I was finished he was still counting up his money and fell asleep waiting on him.

The rest of the weekend after the carnival Maddy was not up to talking at all and I didn’t want to ruin my weekend by talking to Nate so I went with Fez and Ash to the gas station when Ash told me that Rue and Jules were coming by to get lip tattoos from him.

“Looks good.” Ash comments after finishing Rue’s and I just shake my head.

“You guys are dumbasses.” I told them.

“You ready?” Ash asks Jules. “How bad does it hurt?” She asks.

“I didn’t feel it at all.” Rue said.

“It’s all good, I’ve been doing this for years.” Ash assures. “Says the 14-year-old.” I said sarcastically. “You know most kids your age are Boy Scouts or something.”

“Shut up. Unlike them, I’m stacking cash.” He tells me but still cracks a smile.

“I love you Rue, but there’s no fucking way I’m doing that.” Jules says.

“Damn that sucks. Cause you already gave us the money and there are no refunds.” I told her and reluctantly she got up and sat in the chair to get her tattoo from Ash. When it came to business this was where Ash and I thrived. Believe it or not, he's the muscle and I'm a great negotiator who didn’t take no for an answer and refused to accept refunds.

“Seriously, you guys are dumbasses.” I repeat watching Ash doing Jules tat in disbelief as Rue and I laugh.

On the last day of the weekend while they were at the gas station I chilled at home with their grandma and was taking care of her while they were gone.

“Can you believe all this shit I’m telling you? It's only been like 3 months since school started, and now Halloween’s like around the corner and I know it's like cheesy or whatever but I wanna do like a couple’s costume with Fez but it's so embarrassing to ask.” I was changing her gown as I went on and on about whatever came to mind even though I knew she wasn’t gonna respond. Once finished I sat down next to her bed and continued on, “I was thinking like Bonnie and Clyde but that’s super cliche, right? But he would look so handsome in a suit.”

“Oh really?” Fez said behind me making me jump in surprise not hearing them come back. “How long have you been there?”

“Enough to know our costumes for Halloween.” He pulls me into his arms and I hide my face in his chest shyly. “Nah, don’t be shy. Don’t be embarrassed to ask me nothin.” He assures me and I pull away from his chest and peek at him.

“So you wanna do a couple’s costume as Bonnie and Clyde?” He nodded his head and kissed me.

“Thank you, for taking care of my grandma.”

“No need she’s family. Now, I gotta go buy our costumes.” I said excitedly and left out to get my phone and search for the costumes.

When I go back to school I wait for Maddy at her locker and as she comes to her locker I see her with Kat although I barely recognize her at first. Maddy was also dressed differently. She was wearing a hoodie and turtleneck combo with sunglasses. “I can see how your weekend went. What’s with the turtleneck?” I asked looking at her suspiciously thinking back to the carnival. “I’m on my period.” She answered full of attitude as she opened her locker and not wanting to deal with her attitude I dropped it. While going through her locker Cassie comes up to us and I barely acknowledge her as she talks to Maddie until she suddenly brings up the dick pics on Nate’s phone that we swore not to tell anyone about.

“What dick pics?” Maddy asked glaring at Cassie and I did the same.

“The ones you told me about, on his phone.” She answered timidly.

“I don’t know if your brain is all scrambled from all the molly you take but I never said that. If you ever spread a lie like that, I will fucking come for you.” Maddy threatens. “We good?”

“Yeah.” Cassie answers. Maddy slams her locker shut and we walk off leaving Cassie behind.

“At this point everyone’s gonna fucking know she’s gotta big mouth and apparently so do you on Molly. She’ll probably tell Mckay.” I warned and she rolled her eyes at me. “I swear on my life I didn’t tell anyone don’t fucking worry about it. Bye.” She says splitting from me going to class.

It seemed like a normal day until BB and I were called out of class to the principal’s office. I go in first and sit down across from him and he asks me about Maddy and the bruising on her neck. Now I could’ve been honest about what I knew but I was also paranoid about them bringing in cops which would mean cops would get in my business and I didn’t wanna risk them involving parents which would bring unwanted attention to my poor living situation. And Maddy…and definitely Nate would kill me if they knew I snitched.

“I have no idea who that is.”

“Really?” He looked at me not believing one word. “Nope never heard of her.” I affirm shrugging.

“Well other students I’ve talked to mentioned seeing you and her at the carnival and something about a pot of chili.” He explained and I’m glad I never ended up posting that video of Maddy at the carnival.

“Now I want a lawyer, 'cause that sounds like a leading accusation.” I told him crossing my arms.

“No need for that you’re not in trouble, we’re just trying to get some answers.”

“Well I don’t know anything and I was home all weekend anyway.” He let me go and BB went in after me. I went to the clinic to see if Maddy was there but immediately changed my mind wanting to keep up the story of not knowing her. Instead, I head back to class taking the long way debating on texting Nate to warn him of what was going on but it was too late as I saw him being escorted by two police officers to the principal’s office and as we passed we didn’t look at each other.

I’m nervous the rest of the day worried that my lie about Maddy would catch up with me now that I know for sure cops were involved. My lie about being home all weekend was solid as my parents are oblivious to anything about me and they were pros when it comes to lying to cops. After school, Fez picks me up and takes me to work and during the ride, I try to engage in our conversation but my mind keeps going back to Maddy and Nate. If Fez wants to ask he doesn’t and tells me he’ll pick me up when I get off.

Working helps me take my mind off everything and puts me in a better mood for Fez when he comes to pick me up. “Hey, can we go by my place on the way I need to get more clothes… and make sure my parents aren’t dead.” I said and he laughed thinking I was joking and I just looked at him stoically. “Wait, are you fucking for real?”

“There’s been some close calls. Half the time I can’t tell if they’re dead or just asleep.” I said with a shrug as he parked in front of my house. “This shouldn’t take long they’re probably asleep anyway.” I said as we got out and this time I let him come inside with me deciding to let him see more of my world if we were gonna be together.

Seriously doubting that they were awake I opened the front door which was unlocked like usual. However, instead of sleeping parents, I smelled a home-cooked meal coming from the kitchen. “Fuck.”

“What’s wrong?” Fez asked me confused as I made us go back outside.

“They’re awake and my mom made lasagna.”

“And that’s bad?”

“Yes, cause that means two things. One they’re at the end of their supply and two they’re slightly sober or going through withdrawals. My mom cooks a lot when she starts to sober up. It's a strange habit.” I explain and suddenly the door is opened up and I see my mom with a smile on her face calling my name happily as if she's missed me.

“There you are we’ve been waiting on you. Come on the food’s getting cold. And whose this?” She asks me and I can’t help my look of confusion and feel conflicted about how normal this feels.

“Uh, this is my boyfriend…Fez. Fez, my mom.” I cautiously come in with Fez following behind me after shaking my mom’s hand.

“Really?” She says excitedly. “Honey, come here (Y/N) brought her boyfriend home.” She says excitedly guiding us to the dinner table making us sit down before going to get my dad.

“Sorry.” I tell Fez and he takes my hand under the table squeezing it reassuringly. “It’s alright, was gonna have to meet them eventually.”

“I know just, don’t tell them what you actually do.” I whisper to him as they come to sit down across from us at the table. Fez shakes my dad’s hand before he sits down and immediately started eating and asking me and Fez questions like they weren’t fucking drug addicts that couldn’t take care of themselves last week. It was so weird I could barely eat and I love my mom’s lasagna it was the only thing she could make sober and high. Although she barely made it when she was high.

“So Fezco you in school with our daughter?” My mom asked.

“Oh Nah, I uh-”

“He had to drop out when his grandmother got sick.” I answered for him smiling at him to give him confidence not wanting him to be ashamed of having to drop out.

“Yeah, I own a business though with my brother to take care of her.” He told them and I smiled loving to see him confident.

“That’s great to hear, good to know (Y/N) is in good hands.” My dad answered and I started to wonder if this was some kind of prank or something.

“So…(Y/N) we need a favor.” My dad starts and I sigh putting down my fork.

“What another piss test?” I asked him but he shook his head.

“We’re out of ‘stock’ and need you to go get us some more.” My dad explained using stock in place of drugs since Fez was here.

“There’s always a catch.” I mumble under my breath.

“What was that?” My dad asks sliding the money across the table and I shake my head taking the money. My phone starts ringing in my pocket and am glad to find an excuse to get away from the table.

“Nothing, I gotta take this.” I said standing up to go to my room. “Hey Maddie, what’s up?” I answered and started packing up some more clothes.

“(Y/N) I need to come over like right now!” She cries over the phone. “Fez won’t mind right?”

“Maddy I would seriously love to help you and be there for you right now but I’m at my house suffering through some weird alternate universe shit with Fez and my parents. Give me like an hour maybe and I’ll call you back or go to Kat’s.”

“I can’t she completely blew me the fuck off and everyone else in my life is fucking against me! Except for you. I really need you and Nate’s not answering any of my fucking texts!”

“Yeah, that’s probably for the best, Maddy. He’s under police investigation and we both know what happened. And everyone’s not against you. They just want what’s best for you. Which is to stay the fuck away from Nate.” I reassure finishing packing up my clothes. “Look I’ll try my best to end this weird family dinner I’m having and call you back when I get back to Fez’s house. Whatever you do, don’t go see Nate.”

After calming her down some more I hung up and went back out to the table to see my dad had disappeared somewhere and Fez helping my mom clear the table. I smile at the sight and go over and help them carry the dishes to the sink. While also getting some food for Ash to take back. “Who was that?” Fez asked me.

“Just Maddy, shit’s kind of going crazy for her and Nate. She needs someone to talk to.”

“Everything alright?” He asked me and I nodded my head before kissing him.

“You two are so cute.” My mom comments ruining the moment. “This is so strange.” I comment shaking my head, “Mom we gotta go. So I’ll see you tomorrow morning with the stuff alright?”

“Right.” She said and she hugged me goodbye which is another foreign feeling to me. “Before you go, did you happen to make any extra money tonight? Not asking for a lot just enough to cover some bills?” She asked me as we pulled apart.

I shake my head as I pull away from her going into my pocket giving her the tips from tonight and a few more bucks from the previous night. “Night mom.” I said coldly leaving with Fez back to his car.

“You alright?” He asks me when we get in the car and I nod my head as I lean back in the seat with my eyes closed.

“I’ll be fine. Can we go home? I mean back to your house.” I corrected myself.

“Yeah we can go home.” He answers and rests his hand on my thigh leaving it there the entire drive back. When we get back to his house I call Maddy over and over but she doesn’t answer and I fear that she went to Nate and can’t help but feel like a dick.

“Where have you two been at?” Ash asked us as we walked in.

“Having the weirdest family dinner of my life. Brought some food by the way.” I told him handing him the plate as we sat next to him.

“Oh shit you met her parents?” He asked Fez as he started to remove the foil covering the lasagna.

“Yeah, they weren’t too bad aside from using baby girl as a drug delivery girl.” He said wrapping an arm around me and I blushed at the pet name.

“Speaking of, I’m gonna need whatever they can afford with this.” I tell him remembering the money my dad gave me and hand it to him.

“Yeah I’ll have it all ready for you in the morning.”

“Thanks now, I’m gonna try and forget this strange night.” I said giving Ash a kiss on the cheek, which he hates pushing me off, and I laughed. I take Fez’s hand as I stand up, taking him with me to his bedroom and kissing him as soon as he closes the door.

Lately, I’ve noticed when I try to take things further than kissing with Fez he stops me in the process. I get that we wanted to take things slow but I didn’t think it would be this slow. Any guy I know would’ve wanted to fuck me by now. We had made our way to his bed and I tried again to take things further moving my hand to his sweats but once again he grabbed my hand. Disconnecting our lips I sigh frustrated.

“Am I missing something or do you not want to have sex with me?” I asked as he moved over to let me sit up. “Or do you wanna wait longer? Cause if you do that’s fine I just wanna be on the same page.”

“I do its just I didn’t wanna rush anything since we just made it official. You know?”

“Oh my god. That’s why you’ve been rejecting me? I was starting to think I was ugly.” I said in a mix of disbelief and relief.

“Eh come on now, ain’t nobody reject you or think you ugly.”

“Well duh I know I’m not ugly.” I said rolling my eyes.

“I was just tryin to take it-”

“Take it slow, I get it. But do we have to take it that slow? We’ve been making out and shit all summer and I’m ready for more if you are.” I said resting my hand on his knee.
