It's the weekend y'all! #KenyaDigIt #SaturdaySmiles
During the summer of 2012, I had the opportunity to travel to Kenya under the Children of Kibera Foundation with a group of other teenagers from the DC area. We spent each morning assisting teachers at the Red Rose Children Centre. I was lucky enough to work with the Nursery class (ages 3-4). The students were constantly smiling and eager to learn about us and where we came from. My favorite part of the day was recess. Everyone from baby class up to standard 4 would come together to sing songs and play games. From the moment I stepped foot on the Red Rose campus, I felt I was part of the community.
Over the course of the two weeks I was working at Red Rose, I taught my students “The Wheels on the Bus.” I loved seeing how they improved each day and hearing how they had been practicing in front of their families. I miss Red Rose so much, but am confident I will see everyone again soon.
Half a pencil. Full of potential. Love our students!
A happy one at Red Rose School in Kibera!
