Sundays inktober (uploading a day late oops). Based on a walk I did that day along the North Cornwall coast. I used inktense pencils & sepia ink pens (I’m trying to experiment with different types of ink this week).

Also added a photo of the bit I was basing it on, and some others from the walk (my dslr ran out of battery, so the 2 cliff photos were taken on my ancient phone). I would like to paint this stretch again, and do it justice properly!

Inktober 1 - a fox.

I’ve been pretty absent the last few months, so I felt a bit rusty drawing again. I’m hoping inktober will get me back into the swing of things though! Done in Indian ink with a mix of waterbrushes and dip pens.

Wistman’s Wood, Dartmoor.

I’m glad I’ve finished this one, it took me quite a long time. It's based on Wistman's Wood,  a copse of shrunken old oak trees on Dartmoor. There are a lot of myths surrounding it, and the Wild Hunt is particularly associated with Wistman's Wood.  ‘Old Crockern’, the spirit/god of the moor, is said to house his ‘Wisht Hounds’ (Devons’ version of hell hounds) at Wistman’s Wood, and he travels there from Crockern Tor to release them. ‘Wisht’ is a dialect word for eerie/haunted/pixie-led, and this could also be where the name ‘Wistman’s’ was derived from.

I walked up there again recently and took lots of photos, I will try to upload some soon, it’s a very interesting place.

Wistmans Wood w.i.p, watercolour pencils & coloured pencils. It’s based on my own photos from last year. I’m making slow progress with this one, but I have to go over each bit at least 3 times to get the details, so it’s taking quite a long time!

A little dragon amongst the ferns. His wings are made of fern fronds, but he’s more of glider than an actual flier. He hides in trees to pounce on small birds and insects, and raid birds nests for their eggs.

The sun came out earlier, even if it was brief. I had a chance to take some photos before the rain came, then I retreated indoors to do some sketching. :)

I painted this during the summer, but I only got around to properly scanning it the other day. Ever since seeing those real opals that look like they have little nebulas in them I wanted to paint a nebula filled crystal. I’m doing a few more, because it was so much fun and I want to push it further. I’ve got a b/w ink one & a few geodes in the works, possibly a pattern too. :)

I used to love collecting crystals (and fossils, shells, see glass, acorns, feathers.. pretty much everything) as a kid, my little sister and I had matching bum bags (fanny packs in America) which we would stuff full of ‘treasure’ on every walk we went on. I remember finding an amethyst chunk in a river bed on Dartmoor which I was so proud of at the time (I found it the other day, it’s smaller than I remember of course, but still pretty). Seeing all these crystals and fossils on my dash makes me want to start hunting for ‘treasure’ again.

Also, Steven Universe has probably influenced me too!

I’m going to update my redbubble/sociey 6 soon with more art, including this one, as I think it might make a cool tee/pillow.

Another quick little painting, just to warm up and play with stylus embossing. This one is approx. 8.5cm x 10cm. Based on a barn owl.

Also, thank you to anyone who’s decided to follow me on here so far! It means a lot! I’m a bit useless at using tumblr properly, but I’m hoping to get to grips with it more this year.

Went for a walk around Cox Tor, it was very windy and wet at first, but the sun managed to peek through at the end. Might upload a few more photos tomorrow.
