a lot of people assume psychosis hallucinations are super intense all-consuming horror movie shit like the memes about the hat man or always horrible debilitating things that make you dangerous to be around
but in my experience 95% of my hallucinations are getting spooked by very clearly hearing someone knocking on my door or calling my name from another room or hearing footsteps walking behind me which are "just" my brain recreating the horror of an abusive childhood
i *have* gotten the "bugs crawling all over me" hallucination once or twice though and yeah that one is exactly as terrible horrible as it sounds AUGH
(not trying to put you on blast specifically, you're just a good example to jump off of)
media and pop culture hypes up psychosis a lot as The Worst That Can Happen out of sanism, so even when you try and filter that cultural bias out you still assume it's based on something
when, no, psychosis is actually very simple: it's just hyperactive pattern matching. it's your brain's signal-to-noise ratio being off balance, it's seeing images in random static. it's not always this special uniquely big thing, it's in fact quite mundane a lot of the time.
no one is immune to psychosis, it's not purely the realm of the insane. anyone is one bad night of sleep or one bad case of food poisoning or one bad fever away from being just like me on my worst days.
and this, indeed, is why solidarity with the insane is so important: you, yes you too, are just one bad day from joining us, and no perceptions of being a "temporarily embarrassed sane person" will save you from the oppression of the psychiatric institution.

You know, when I've remarked that a lot of the responses to my posts feel like people are just plucking out keywords they think they recognise based on the shape of them and replying to what they imagine the post says based on that, the possibility never occurred to me that this is actually how many American schools are currently teaching kids to read.
Like, my assumption this whole time has been that when folks go "I misunderstood this post that says [thing] as saying [unrelated thing] because I mistook [word] for [completely different word that happens to start with the same letter]", that was a bit. What do you mean they're teaching kids a reading method that's tailored to produce this exact error?
Three cueing. Once you learn about it, a whole lot of very frustrating online discourse with US Americans makes so much sense 😭
For decades, schools have taught children the strategies of struggling readers, using a theory about reading that cognitive scientists have
If you were taught to read with the three cueing method, and now struggle to read fluently, you can still learn to read properly!

This scorching summer has turned our tent into something that feels more like an oven than a shelter. Under the blazing sun, the heat inside becomes unbearable. Our children have nowhere to escape, and the elderly and sick struggle to endure the suffocating temperatures. Every day is a battle against the relentless heat, and even getting a few hours of rest has become nearly impossible.
All we hope for is a tent designed to withstand the summer heat—a shelter with proper insulation and the basic necessities that would allow our family to live with dignity and safety.
We need $1,200 to build and equip a tent that can protect us from the extreme temperatures. While this amount may seem small, it would make a life-changing difference for a family trying to survive in these harsh conditions.
Every donation, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to replacing this unbearable heat with safety, comfort, and hope. Your kindness can help transform our tent from an oven into a true shelter where our children can finally breathe, rest, and feel protected.

i feel like we should be talking more about the fact that there is a serious ebola outbreak going on in some parts of africa, particularly the democratic republic of the congo, and has been for months now.
Eighty percent of new Ebola cases in eastern Congo are emerging from unknown chains of transmission, according to WHO, a sign the outbreak i
this is specifically the bundibugyo strain of ebola (BDBV), associated with a 30-50% fatality rate and resistant to many of the standard ebola treatments such as existing vaccines and antibody measures (though as of this year there are phase 1 human trials for a vaccine ongoing). it's a risk 4 pathogen per the WHO, which is the highest end of the scale. there have been two previous major outbreaks of this strain in 2007 and 2012.
recent data suggests that there are some potentially concerning mutations going on in the current outbreak, which is at nearly 2100 cases with 798 deaths (38% fatality rate): "As of July 16th 2026, roughly 80% of all diagnosed cases are coming from completely unidentified chains of transmission, and roughly 70% of all fatalities are occuring (sic) outside treatment facilities. These numbers indicate that contact tracing and containment efforts overall are experiencing massive failure, and that the virus is currently spreading significantly faster than authorities are able to keep up with."
"Genome sequencing of early cases has identified several novel, unique mutations within the viruses of this lineage driving the current epidemic. Of remarkable concern, a handful of these mutations structurally encode the Glycoprotein Subunits 1 and 2 (GP1/GP2) and Polymerase (L Protein) in ways that have not yet been described in literature, meaning there is a possibility that these mutations may translate to a phenotype that possesses higher viral fitness."

Hello, how are you? I hope I am not bothering you. I am writing to you as I am living through the hardest moments of my life. Hashem is slowly dying in front of my eyes and our children. Hey all! Normally when I post for Mona's community aid initiative, I post about the communities of refugees she is helping. But today I went to Instagram to update you all and saw that she hasn't posted since April, and we hadn't spoken since then either. She hadn't messaged me updates like she normally does. I was very afraid. It turned out she had broken her phone during a displacement, and she hasn't been able to replace it due to the high costs. Mobile phones are a scarce and expensive resource in Ghazzah but they are a lifeline for the families there. And for Mona it is not just a lifeline for her family but also for the refugee community she has dedicated the last few years of her life serving. She cannot connect with her usual network of volunteers or access funds without her phone (she had to contact me through her mother's phone). Despite helping displaced refugees, her and her family are also displaced refugees also living out of a tent, and she cannot currently afford a replacement. Please please please help her get a new one so she can continue doing the life-saving work she has been doing. Chuffed link to support Mona.
Every single dollar counts!!

Several wildfires are forcing members of a number of First Nations to flee their homes in northern Ontario.
“I had time to run home and pack a bag and get to the beach where the boats were waiting,” said a member of Namaygoosisagagun First Nation (Collins). “We literally had minutes to get on the boats and flee before it took our town. “Once we left my house finally after packing what I could in a pack sack, the fire was right behind our place. We had to run to the beach and once we got there, it was only moments before the fire had jumped over the (train) track and was coming for us.”
it has since been confirmed that namaygoosisagagun first nation has completely burnt to the ground. if you would like to help the community navigate an ongoing crisis, i urge you to donate to the anishinabek nation 7th generation, a registered charity seeking to improve the lives of first nations people. donations are going directly to members of namaygoosisagagun first nation.
