All the little angels rise up, rise up. All the little angels rise up high! How do they rise up, rise up, rise up? How do they rise up, rise up high? They rise heads up, heads up, heads up…
They rise heads up, heads up high!
So I’m a clueless idiot that’s way behind on her reading. What’s the connection between Terry Pratchett and lilacs? Because I live in Rochester, NY, Lilac Capital of the World and we just had our Lilac Festival.
It’s from the People’s Revolution of the Glorious Twenty-Fifth of May, depicted in Night Watch. (Truth, Justice, Freedom, Reasonably Priced Love, and a Hard-Boiled Egg!) The troops wore lilacs as insignia, and then afterwards:
“Each year, on the 25th of May, a group of survivors of the uprising gathers at Small Gods’ Cemetery to honor the casualties with lilacs and, affectionately, one hard-boiled egg (from Madam Roberta Meserole). … The 25th of May is also memorialized, among those who survive, by the wearing of lilac on that date.”
This all led to the flower’s adoption as the symbol of support for Alzheimer’s research fundraising, which is probably the bigger emotional connection now, among Terry’s fandom and loved ones.
