His intrigue on how she was doing led to him taking a pegasai to Sacramento to his old neighborhood. He walked down the street, face obscured by a hoodie as he walked across the street from his old residence. He was expecting her to be dead. Part of him honestly wanted it, but to his surprise, he witnessed that she was flourishing. She wasn't at all how he remembered. She looked healthy. Happy. The house was in far better shape, almost like it was completely renovated. The thing that took him by surprise the most?

"Daddy! Mommy and me made brownies! You gotta try some!" Khai overheard the little boy yell. The child slightly resembled him from when he was little; she had another child? They looked like a happy family, too. The one thing Khai had always longed for when he was growing up...

His fists clenched briefly before they relaxed. The threat of fire flickering from his hands only ended in whisps of smoke on the evening breeze. No...he couldn't be completely angry at her. If anything, he had to have some satisfaction that her life improved, just like his did. He had a family now. He had also found love.

"Take care, Momma." He whispers before walking off in the opposite direction.

"Mommy, that guy has a Sonic the Hedgehog jacket! Awesome!" He heard his apparent little brother shout. Khai felt the eyes on him, but he'd acknowledge the little guy with a wave of his hand before pocketing it back into aforementioned Sonic hoodie.

He continued his strides towards the park a couple blocks away and sits on the bench. Once again, emotionally drained. He let his teary gaze stare out into the horizon of the sunset. It was not as beautiful as being on the coast of Italy with his partner, but it was the end the a day and he took those diminishing beams of sunlight as a promise of better ones to come along with the hardships.

With those hardships, at least he wasn't alone anymore.

It was easy to forget that for as close as the two of them had become, there was still a fair deal of distance between them in terms of understanding. For all Isaac was, he would always consider himself to be his father's champion; in many ways they both were, Khai with the mind he carried for innovation and craftsmanship, and Isaac with his stance as the death speaker.

Khai had a way of keeping things light, for that Isaac couldn't help but be grateful. Despite the weight of what was about to come, there were still moments where they could take in the quiet solace of one another. Little things: Khai's smile, and his predilection to always come prepared with snacks. Isaac's stomach growled in response and he took Khai's hand in response. "Well what kind of cupcakes?"

His laughter was quiet, an easy chuckle that he'd thrummed up from somewhere within. Isaac still hadn't quite processed it, but he was working through it. "I used to imagine my father walking through the door when I was a kid. Every night for years I thought about what it'd be like to meet him... Since coming here I just wanted to be seen by, and for him to know that I would fight for his cause." Isaac rubbed idly at the back of his head, contemplative for just another moment longer. "I didn't think I'd see him until-" well, until he died.

"Just an assortment. Kinda thought it'd be cool to taste different ones. Kinda interested in the pistachio one." His hand grasps Isaac's, sending a surge of warmth to flow within the other demigod. He held on to that hand tight, their fingers interlinked before he began to take steps, leading Issac out of the temple.

Rather than the typical plucky awkwardness that the son of Hephaestus usually carried; there was a more tranquil vibe running through him while he listened to Issac disclose the prior ideal meeting of his godly parent.

"Apparently, they have a habit of showing up when you least expect them, but really need guidance." He speaks after having just gone through something similar. He hadn't quite spoken to Issac about that trip to the forge and, more recently, being forced to face his personal pain of his past. Only because Khai already knew that his boyfriend had a ton on his plate on regards to the up and coming trial. Right now? Giving Issac unconditional support outweighed his own personal baggage.

"I'm sure he knows your heart is wholly dedicated to the cause. Through your actions and your prayers thus far. That's one of the many things I've grown to adore about you. You're unwavering loyalty and dedication... you have this quiet strength about you that's extremely admirable." He softly chuckles and maneuvers his steps do that he's standing before the son of Thanatos.

"Do know that you have my full support in the trial ahead. My mind and my heart are dedicated to your success in being truly seen in your father's eyes for the great man that you are. "
