hello. yet another fanfic, but this time for one of my old otps. "Third time's the charm" is what they always say. You didn't do well on the first try? Then try again. Oh, you didn't do well on the second? It's fine. You can definitely do it on the third time.

And this? This is Bitty's third time to attend a charity event with Jack and the Falconers, and you'd think he'll get it right this time. But, of course, the universe proves again that no, he clearly does not.

i know you have a specific interpretation when it comes to bitty and sex/physicality, can you talk more about that?

this is something i find really kind of key to the way i characterise bitty generally speaking, because it relates to some central things that have really shaped who we understand him to be: his attitude towards physicality; his relationship with his own sexuality; and his upbringing. these three things are pretty intertwined, and i think there’s a bit of a tendency to overlook it all in regards to how bitty approaches dating and, specifically, his relationship with jack. i wrote about it in tu ne t’intéresses pas au sexe? but this as an analysis is a lot more detailed and a lot more pretentious.

Read the National Geographic special issue on Gender. There’s whole articles on this with the sources and everything included in there but I’ll sum up for you: 

People (by which I mean actual scientists who are qualified to do this) did studies on how people’s brains are formed/shaped. Male and female brains show various slight differences. They are distinguishable. 

Now here’s where it gets interesting. They looked at scans of transgender people’s brains. What do you think they found? 

They found that their brains most closely followed the patterns of the gender that they said they were rather than the gender they were assigned.  

Get that? 

So if a woman was assigned male at birth because she had a penis and they scanned her brain, they found her to have the brain shape expected in a woman. It wasn’t exactly the same but it was clearly much closer to female than to male. 

Once those people started hormone therapy and everything, the brain shape grew even closer to the gender they said they were (the gender that they ARE) until it was pretty much identical. You couldn’t tell the difference except yep, that’s a female brain now regardless of whether she was assigned male at birth. 

It is thought to be this that causes dysphoria in the transgender people who suffer it: since their brain is a female brain (or vice versa) making them female it causes a disconnect between that and what their eyes see when they look at their body. 

So there ya are. Science proves transgender people are the damn gender they say they are. 

Can I have my $1000 dollars now or do you wanna pay it to the National Geographic so they can keep up this education, I don’t mind which?

like, chowder is bitty’s SON. bitty loves that boy. he has adopted him as his own and absolutely adores him. he looks out for him and is always trying to help him out. and chowder loves bitty!! he looks up to him and is always hanging around him and asking for advice! because chowder is bitty’s frog!

and bitty was rans and holtzy’s frog! i think we forget that sometimes.

shitty straight up says in “the closet story: part 2″ update that “ransom and holster literally spend half their lives looking out for you – on the ice AND off.” ransom and holster adopted bitty. they adored that kid. he was their son. i’m not exaggerating this. look how much bitty hung out with his dads in the early days:

they spent so much time hanging out with bits and making him feel comfortable and included, and just looking out for him and making sure he was okay. and bitty looks up to them so much too!! they were his first real friends at samwell! like wow!!! and i still cannot get over their reaction when bitty came out to them:

these goobers love eric bittle more than life itself. they are 100% the reason bitty become friends with shitty and jack. bitty started hanging out at the haus for them. they were the ones who started inviting bitty to stuff. because he is their frog!  can we get super emo for a sec and think about rans and holtzy passing down the captaincy to bitty? i think they’ll all cry. i just can’t get over it.
