there's a lot of talk about reading comprehension and one thing i think is the biggest barrier to people on this site getting better at it is simply... rushing. rushing to share something you haven't understood, rushing to have an opinion without taking the time to think about it, rushing to declare that you don't understand something

the thing is. this is what i would call an inside thought. nobody would have known you didn't get it if you didn't tell them that. if you recognised that it was important but didn't have the headspace to process it, you can reblog without commentary for others, or to come back to later. or you can save it somewhere and wait until you DO have the capacity to read it over a few more times, ponder it, consider what it might mean, figure out how to understand it, and THEN reblog it
but no. rushing to reblog while it is still opaque. rushing to admit to ignorance rather than spend the time to achieve understanding. perhaps hoping that somebody will break it down for you more simply, though to my mind it was quite simply phrased in the first place. never stopping to take the time first
comprehension is not always instant! sometimes it takes a bit of time for something to percolate after you read it; sometimes you need to read it a few times; sometimes you realise you don't have the context for it and either go and get the context or accept that it's not for you right now
please just simply slow down. you don't always have to respond to everything within a second or two. it is okay if it is not an instantaneous understanding. we all need to get more comfortable with thinking more slowly and more deeply and more carefully, and not letting our instant split second responses drive us all the time, because they are a barrier to genuine reflection

It is not even only this app, TikTok is horrible for having a large amounts of femmes sexualising butches. Making the butch incredibly uncomfortable. If you only view butches as a means to an end, you do not truly respect butches.

Overall I see a common theme here of people being extremely horny to the point of it being disrespectful and completely ignoring the person behind the blog. That butch is not just a kink, it is an incredibly important identity.

In May 2024, the University of California, Irvine, had the pro-Palestine encampment there dismantled and 47 people were arrested, some quite brutally. Among them was Dr. Tiffany Willoughby-Herard, professor of African American studies at UCI. Some may recognize her from a news clip about the arrests, where as she was being detained, she called out the chancellor of UCI for spending money that could have gone toward scholarships and housing on defending genocide.
That same chancellor has a personal, racist vendetta against Dr. Willoughby-Herard, and has decided to pursue disciplinary action against her, even though the charges for protesting were dismissed. She is now on academic suspension and has received a letter of censure for five years.

My wife and I came to Egypt in June for the IVF procedure, and she became pregnant, but we were stranded in Egypt after the war. I was employed in Gaza, and my wife was a mathematics teacher. Now we have no income after everything was destroyed. My twins were born in April, and one of them (Ahmed) has two holes in his heart and also suffers from optic nerve damage as a result of being in the neonatal intensive care unit.
He was given artificial oxygen and needs special care, surgery, and numerous treatments at great expense. He now needs special milk and medication. My mother is in Gaza, where every day is a struggle to survive. Some time ago, she was injured when shrapnel from nearby shelling struck her back. She tried to endure the pain for as long as she could, but now her condition has become critical.
She has now been admitted to the hospital, and her condition is very serious. She is suffering from unbearable back pain, extreme exhaustion, and every passing day brings more suffering. Watching my mother fight through this pain while I can do so little is heartbreaking.
The doctors told us that she urgently needs emergency back surgery. They warned us that the operation must be performed within the next 6 days to prevent her condition from deteriorating further.
The cost of this life-saving surgery is $1,000.
Thanks to the incredible kindness of compassionate people, we have raised $292 so far ($188 from our previous appeal and $104 from our latest one). We are deeply grateful for every donation.
However, we still need $708 to give my mother the surgery that could save her from worsening pain and complications.
