2017 Soul Eater Resonance Bang Is Coming!
Y’all ready for this jelly? Prepare yourselves!
Theme: Lost and Found
The SE Resonance Bang is a fandom-wide collaboration event. Authors and artists from all corners are welcomed and encouraged to collaborate with each other to celebrate the world and characters of Soul Eater and Soul Eater NOT!
The event spans five months, so participants have ample time to complete fine works (but the sign-up window is short by comparison, so don’t wait too long to join in)!
What do?
Authors will write fic involving the theme (Lost and Found) interpreted in any manner you see fit) with any pairing or non-pairing, any genre (adventure/comedy/romance/smut/etc), and any universe (AUs/crossovers are welcome).
On a pre-planned date (timeline can be found below), anonymous summaries of the fics will be privately presented to participating artists. Artists will put in a claim for the top 10 fics of their choosing to collaborate with its author, and the Resbang Mods will facilitate the claiming process until all fics are claimed.
Fics are to be written and fully completed over the course of several months, with the end goal of having a polished, complete story with at least 10,000 words by the group’s deadline. At least one work of art pertaining to a chosen fic is to be fully completed by the group’s deadline.
All fics need to be written newly for Resbang, and all fanart must be done newly for Resbang. These works must not have ever been publicly posted or shared prior to the assigned deadline. Your project is a secret to be revealed at the end of the event. If you’re unsure about what this means, please feel free to contact the mods at [email protected].
Artists are not limited to drawn/painted media— artists may make graphics, AMV’s, fanmixes, cosplays, photography, music compositions, fanfood, - anything creative as long as it pertains to the story they have claimed. Your range is broad, so if drawing isn’t your forte, don’t count yourself out!
Still want to participate even though you’re not much of a writer or artist? You can volunteer to be a beta! Resbangers may call on you for your opinion and input on their fics or artwork, and you can help them by critiquing before anyone else is allowed to see their work!
Important Stuff!
Please note that this is not a competition. Resbang is an opportunity for the Soul Eater fandom to come together, meet new people, and collaborate to create wonderful new things! There is no required skill level for writing or making art. If you’re a little shy, this is a great chance to get to know fellow fans.
The Schedule
August 5th: Writer, Artist, and Beta sign ups open at 12:01am EST (GMT -4)
August 26th: Last day for sign ups. Sign ups close at 11:59pm EST. (GMT -4)
September 23rd: First author check-in due to mods; working titles and private summaries need to be included. Stories should be at at least 2500 words (for your own baseline, you should be at 25% completion now).
September 24th: Mods post private summaries for registered artists to preview.
September 30th: Artist claims are open! Claiming goes on until all fics are paired with an artist. Once all authors and artists are paired, authors must personally provide their artists with a draft.
October 21st: Second author check-ins are due. First artist check-ins are due. Drafts must be at least 5000 words (for your own baseline, you should be at 50% completion now). Artist check-ins require a rough draft/rough plan for project. Authors and artists must provide these drafts to one another as well.
November 11th: Third author check-ins are due. Second artist check-ins are due. For those wanting their stories promoted, author check-ins should include the final title, ratings, warnings, estimated final word count, and a summary for the public. Drafts must be at least 7500 words (for your own baseline, you should be at 75% completion now). Artists should submit updated progress on their projects.
December 2nd: Final check-in for authors and artists. Drafts should be completed or almost completed. The mods build the posting schedule from this check-in; this is the time to request a posting date if you know you’ll have a conflict, etc.
December 3rd: Posting schedule posted; authors and artists contacted with their posting date.
December 9th: Posting begins! One resbang a day will be scheduled, with a short break from Christmas through New Year’s.
How do I join?
Resbang is hosted by the GrigoriWings forum, which is a Jcink community. Anonymous posting is not available, so you must make a Jcink account/screen name to participate. Once you have a Jcink account, you can register via the various sign-up threads. The ResBangMod Tumblr will be an active promotion and announcement blog, but primary participation will be through the forum and NOT through Tumblr.
Please note that ALL pairings, as well as general/non-rom stories, are welcome and encouraged! The more varied fandom participation we receive, the better Resbang will be, so please don’t hesitate to share across the fandom board or step out of your pairing comfort zone. Intolerance of other pairings, rude behavior, and harassment of other participants will not be tolerated. This includes harassing others to create something on a subject or ship they are not interested in. Harassers will be perma-banned from the GrigoriWings board and removed from any participation in Resbang, present or future, and may also be banned from the Discord server.

Theme: Lord and Lady Death
Summary: As Kid and Liz ascended to new levels of power and get these cool titles to boot what will they do. Together they certainly can do a lot.
It’s been fun to write all this week for this ship and I have to say this is one of my favorite drabbles for this couple.
KidLiz Week: Day 7
Day 7: Lord and Lady Death
_________________________
And so this was the end of the story, the Kishin had been locked away, Lord Death was dead, Kid was a full Shinigami, and a truce with the witches had been working well.
But Liz couldn’t understand why she felt more alone than ever.
And so, on the night prior to a large scale siege of at least a hundred rebellious witches, she approached her Meister. They had been dating for a little more than a year, but even though there was the species difference wedged between them, Liz had always felt right there beside him.
But that all changed the moment when those stupid lines connected. It hadn’t hit her until Kid’s coronation as the next Shinigami that Death the Kid wasn’t a kid anymore, he was an actual adult.
And where did that leave her?
A human girl with a fleeting lifespan that was hopelessly in love with Death itself.
“Kid?” Liz called from behind him, he turned when he heard her voice and she found those golden eyes on her. “Can I ask you something?”
“Yeah, what is it?”
“What are we? I know we’re together, but…I don’t know what ‘together’ means in your book.”
Kid gave a soft smile and ran a pale hand through his striped hair. She frowned, it was always something he did when he was reminiscing. “We’re together. We’re a couple.”
“But I feel you’re not being, well,” she paused, trying to find the right word to use, but she said what had come to mind, “in it. Ever since you became Lord Death, you’ve become distant. And I wanted to know if something is wrong. With you? With everything that has happened? With me?”
She didn’t even have time to react before his arms had encircled her and his head rested on her’s, just as she had done so many years prior. “No Liz, there’s nothing wrong with you. And don’t ever think there is. It’s just, there’s something dad never told me.”
“What is that?”
“I can see the dates people die.”
Liz only hugged him tighter.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
The mission had been a success in one term, that being they had crushed the rebellious witches. But casualties had been massive. The witches managed to create such a magic wavelength that forced all of the weapons into human form, and that left nearly everyone without a way to fight. The only reason they had won because of Kid and the witches.
But Maka didn’t know what to do when she saw Kid-now, Lord Death-collapse to his knees in front of the corpses of both of his weapons.
No one knew what to do. No one knew what to say. Unlike most of the Meisters, Kid had used his influence as Death to fight off the wavelength for a long period of time, so he had continued to wield both Liz and Patty in perfect resonance. They fought, like, well, death, until a witch managed to get in a lucky shot before the resonance shattered and the two Demon Pistols were human. Their deaths had been quick, a witch had managed to run both of them through with two swords made of pure magic.
“Kid?” Spirit had asked slowly, stepping past his daughter as he stepped up next to the Death God. “It’s getting late and we should move their bodies.”
Maka and Soul shared an equal look of worry. Spirit had become Kid’s one last lifeline to his father, and they had become the best of friends after Lord Death’s demise. And if the reaper wasn’t hearing him, then it was bad.
“They would want you to help the others.” Tsubaki called from the back as she helped along a limping Black*Star. “There are still more witches out there.”
And then Kid did something strange, he laughed. Everyone froze in shock, had he snapped? But then the reaper sighed, “I never saw their death dates. They weren’t supposed to die today.”
No one said anything. And the night was silent.
Until Liz took a gasping breath.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
“It’s a miracle.” Stein had said as he finished looking at both of the Demon Pistols, who were both, injured horribly, but still alive nonetheless. “I’ve never seen anything like it and I’ve seen some stuff in my many years. Consider, yourselves very lucky.”
And just like that, the Demon Pistols were alone with their Meister, who, strange enough, hadn’t looked at them.
“I’m sorry.” Was the only thing he said.
Patty blinked and rubbed her eyes, she was trying not to fall asleep due to all of the pain medication that had been administered to her. “For wha? Ya didn’t do nothin’ wrong. It was all of those damn witches!”
“No, not that.” Kid replied flatly. Liz narrowed her eyes as she continued. “I’ve figured out the reason you two didn’t, well, pass on. You died in perfect resonance with me, so your souls didn’t leave mine.”
“What are you talking about?” Liz asked suddenly, despite the fact she was just as drugged up as her sister, she was managing to talk normally. “What does that have to do with anything?”
Kid blinked, his golden eyes landing on her. “Your souls, due to the fact they left your physical bodies but not my soul, they became extensions of my own.”
“Meanin’?” Patty had asked
“You’ll live as long as I do. You won’t die, you won’t age.” Kid had said, his voice uncomfortably hollow. “And you’ll have to watch everyone die before you. We’ll die at the same time, as my soul would dissipate, taking your’s with it.”
It was silent for a minutes before Liz finally said, “You’re saying it like it’s a bad thing. We’ll get to stay with you.”
And Kid smiled that small, sad smile only he could manage. “You two should get some sleep.”
And with that, he was gone.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
It was strange going back to Death City because the news of their new life spans had reached the ears of everyone. The Meisters and Weapons of first year had looked up at them in terror while the remaining Death Scythes had clapped them on the back and had flashed uncomfortably wide smiles.
“Have you heard what they’re calling you guys now?” Maka had asked on their next Girl’s Night Out when they were sitting in a small pizzeria on the edge of Death City. “Everyone is calling you guys ‘The Angels of Death’.”
“That sounds awesome~!” Patty giggled, clapping her hands together, but frowning when a wave of pain washed through her when her broken hand had been touched too hard. “But come on, that’s an awesome name. Right, sis?”
“Yep.” Liz nodded, putting on a smile. “A long way from The Brooklyn Devils.”
Tsubaki smiled. “You seem happier, Liz. Kid finally stop being thicker than a wall?”
The Pistol nodded. “It’s weird. He apologized for being so distant, but he said that he knew he wasn’t going to get any older and he didn’t want to watch me turn to dust.”
“I keep forgetting Kid is now immortal.” Maka admitted. “He got so tall. He’s like, 6′2? Soul is still taller than me, but I don’t have to crane my neck to look at his face.”
“But you can still wear heels on your dates.” Tsubaki frowned. Soul and Maka had gotten together a little after the Battle on The Moon, while Tsubaki and Black*Star had taken a few months later. “Black*Star is the one who has to wear heels. Don’t tell him I said that, I’d never hear the end of it.”
And they all laughed.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
It was two years before Patty marched into the Death Room, head held high as she practically slapped a certificate in Kid’s and her sister’s face. She was laughing and glowing with joy.
“You got a full ride to a college?” Liz gaped with wide eyes. Her sister nodded. “And it’s Harvard? Patty, THAT’S AMAZING!” She screeched and engulfed her sister in a bear hug.
Kid stood back and laughed, waiting for his moment to congratulate his other weapon. After the Battle on The Moon, Patty had decided to finish High School. She did amazingly well, and it turns out her IQ had been 160, at least. She was named Valedictorian and received offers from almost a hundred colleges that were begging to take her.
“So, what are you going to do?”
“I want to study animal medicine and everything like it! And then I want to get an internship working the Safari.” Patty declared. “I will save the giraffes! And the elephants!”
Kid ruffled her hair and grinned. “Good for you!”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
It was three months after Patty had left for college that Liz had been attacked by a rogue Kishin egg while walking home from the Library. She had remembered having the monster’s jaws a few inches from her face as she kept the jaws from closing with one of her arms.
And when blood had splashed against the bricks, she had been shocked.
It wasn’t her own, and her entire arm had become a scythe blade. After collecting the soul and running to the Death Room in a panic, Kid had said that as extensions of a reaper’s soul, she had become a reaper’s natural weapon.
When she asked if Patty would do the same, he had shook his head and explained that he was closest to her, so she would forever have the ability to become a pistol and a scythe.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
A few years after that, Maka and Soul were married. Black*Star was the best man, while Tsubaki was the Maid of Honor. Liz and Patty had been the bride’s maids. Funny enough, Kid had served as the priest. While Stein was forced to comfort a crying Spirit as Marie bounced their daughter on her knee.
And as the happy couple danced their first slow dance as Husband and Wife, both Liz and Kid downed a large glass of cold whiskey.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Tsubaki and Black*Star were next to wed. They had already done a ceremony in Japan with Tsubaki’s family, but they wanted to do another in Death City, especially with Kid officiating.
Maka looked good in her dress despite her now showing stomach. Kid had offered to tell her the gender of their baby, she refused. He had to force himself not to tell her it was twins.
Patty had swung an unsuspecting Kilik around the ballroom, laughing all the while. And side by side, the newly married couple and the long dating couple, danced slowly.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
“When do you think Kid is going to propose?” Patty was asking as she talked to her sister over Skype. “It’s getting ridiculous. All of our friends are getting married and you two are still dating!”
“I don’t know if he will.”
“Oh trust me, he will.”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
It was the 8th day of August almost a year later when Kid finally stood in front of the entirety of the school with Liz. She was trying not to hyperventilate when he dropped down onto one knee, pulling out a black velvet box.
She was nodding, forcing herself not to cry as he slipped the ring on her hand. He picked her up in a hug, spinning her as she kissed him.
And the school cheered.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Their wedding was small and perfectly-as well as surprisingly-asymmetrical. And funny enough, while they said their vows, Black*Star (who had decided to get the qualifications to be able to certify someone’s marriage so he could return the favor to his friend) was forcing himself not to cry. Patty just went wild with cheering as the two shared their first kiss as husband and wife.
And when they danced, Liz felt as if nothing had changed at all, while Kid felt as if everything had.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
It took Liz a long time to respond to people calling her ‘Lady Death’, but when she did, she found her own wardrobe slowly becoming monochrome. Not that she care though, black was indeed slimming.
“The first years keep asking if your hair is black with white stripes or white with black stripes.” Liz had laughed. “It’s the biggest debate in the school. Can you please tell me the answer?”
Kid blinked at her if she had just waltzed in with the Kishin on a leash. He gaped. “Why did you do this to me?”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
“You know, I really don’t care that I can’t have children with you.” Liz had said when the two were watching Soul and Maka’s twin girls (both weapons and perfectly symmetrical, much to Kid’s delight) play with Black*Star and Tsubaki’s son (a weapon with the ability to change forms). “It doesn’t matter.”
“Really?” Kid asked, he watched the way his two guy friends played with their children as if they were the most precious thing in the world. “It doesn’t bother you that when we decide to have one, it will be 100% me?”
Death’s Wife shook her head, “Nope, I’m just happy we’ll be able to raise it together.”
Kid smiled, but neither of the two would admit the fact that when their child connected all three of their Sanzu Lines, they would die. Who would?
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Seventy years had passed too quickly and Liz was biting back bitter tears as she stood over Soul’s grave. He was the last member of Spartoi to die while Maka, ironically, was the first. Apparently, due the Kishin running her through had caused her severe heart problems in the future. She passed in her sleep and Kid had laughed as she marched herself to the Gates of the Afterlife, but not crossing through because she had ‘Her Idiot Husband’ to wait for.
Black*Star and Tsubaki went together. They were fighting off a deadly sweep of a virus in Europe and had denied treatment when they had been infected so children could have a better chance of surviving. Patty managed to create a vaccine for it, but ‘died’ four times all the while.
The two had walked to the Gate of The Afterlife and plopped down beside Maka, laughing and catching up with their lost friend. Kid smiled and turned away for the second time.
Soul had died in a battle with an evil witch when he jumped in front of the way to save a child. The witch had been killed, but The Last Death Scythe had died as a result. Soul had walked next to Kid slowly and they talked, knowing this was the last time they’d see one another for a great many years.
And when he turned to leave his friends at the Gate of the Afterlife, they had pulled him into a hug, crying and begging him to take his sweet old time.
And now, the God of Death walked away, with Liz on one arm and Patty on the other.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
It was nearly 2,000 years later when Kid and Liz had decided that they had lived long enough. Their time as rulers had been dubbed ‘The Golden Age’ by, well, everyone. Patty had saved countless animal species from extinction, including humans, hundreds of times and was credited as the best scientist that had ever lived.
And so the three people stood in a silent Death Room, gathering around a small grey bundle in Kid’s skinny arms. The child had been a girl, with Sanzu Lines running horizontal on the opposite side of her head than Kid. She blinked large sky blue eyes up at them and giggled.
And the three smiled.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
As the child grew, her name came to be Death the Kid, just like her father, but he hadn’t been called ‘Kid’ in at least 2,000 years, so that nickname was no longer his. She didn’t have OCD, instead she had horrible anxiety and Kid had figured it was caused by her being a Fragment of Knowledge, where him being a Fragment of Law had caused his own disorder.
But she was loved anyway.
Patty had moved from her lab in Africa back to Death City to help raise her sister’s child. She had laughed when the new Kid shared the same look of disgust as her father. And by age two, Kid was able to name every animal by its scientifically correct name. The younger Demon Pistol was proud.
Liz had heard her husband talk about he had practically raised himself in the halls of Gallows Manor, and she promptly decided that her child would not be left alone in such a big house. It wasn’t right. She took pride in teaching her daughter how to wield a scythe properly and a pistol.
Death saw his daughter grow and he taught her everything his father had taught him. There was no doubting this girl was the child of Death himself when his daughter unleashed hell upon an unsuspecting Kishin egg.
And ironically enough, her weapon partner ended up being a scythe who was the descendant of Maka and Soul, while her best friend was the descendant of Stein and Marie, who wielded the descendent of Tsubaki and Black*Star.
Lord Death and his Angels had smiled upon their child as she connected her first Line of Sanzu. It sent shockwaves through Kid’s soul and he tipped over, mask cracking.
When she connected her second, more cracks in Kid’s mask appeared, and at some parts, it began to crumble away.
And with a knowing look, the three knew they didn’t have much longer left.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
It had been a long and strenuous battle against a Kishin egg that had absorbed some of Asura’s abilities from the moon itself. And now, Lord Death was being supported by his wife and his sister-in-law as the hole through his body refused to close, but he had managed to kill it.
His daughter ran in, eyes wide and nearly breathless as she saw the state of her father. “Dad?”
He smiled and that’s when he saw the Lines of Sanzu glow in her black hair before encasing her skull, the third beginning to connect slowly, just as his had, many millennia prior.
“Ah, so it’s time already?” Death had laughed as Liz and Patty shared a knowing look. Death’s own lines encased his head as his daughter’s continued to connect. “Looks like you’ll be Shinigami before you know it, Kid.”
“Dad? Please, don’t.” Kid had begged, tears now streaking her dust covered face. “I still need you. Don’t disappear now. Please!”
Death smiled softly. He had told his daughter of what was to happen when the third line connected, but she had thought it would take years for that to happen. She was wrong, it had taken only a few short weeks.
“Come on, Kid.” Liz laughed, forcing herself not to cry. “You’ll do a lot better than us. And besides, you can still knock on Death’s Gate anytime you want to talk to us!”
“Yeah!” Patty agreed with a large smile. “We’ve always got your back!”
Kid sniffled, her tears refusing to stop, even when the girls left their Meister’s side to hug the child. Kid simply sighed and stepped up to her before delivering a small kiss to her forehead.
“Be brave won’t you? It defeats all fear.” Kid said lowly.
Their daughter looked at her parents and nodded, sniffling as her third line connected. There was a bright flash of light and suddenly, Kid was a full Shinigami.
Lord Death gave a small laugh before giving a small two fingered salute to his daughter. He uttered the words his father had said before he died, “See ya~!”
And just like that, The Scientist Patricia Thompson, Lady Death Elizabeth Thompson, and Lord Death the Kid, turned to dust.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
“TOOK YA LONG ENOUGH!” Black*Star shouted as he hooked an arm around Kid’s neck as he appeared in front of the Gates of the Afterlife. He ruffled Kid’s hair and was grinning like a maniac.“A BIG GOD LIKE ME WAS GETTING LONELY.”
Tsubaki laughed. “He means we’re glad to see you again Kid, Liz, Patty.”
“We are too!” Patty laughed, finally releasing Maka and Soul from her bear hug. “It’s been such a long time! I missed all of you!”
“And we have over 2,000 years of stories to tell.” Liz grinned at them as she released Tsubaki. “So, how was the wait?”
“Boring and uncool.” Soul sighed and after a few moments while he recovered from a vicious Maka Chop, he finally finished with, “But, worth it. We missed you guys.”
“Same here.” Kid laughed as he managed to pry himself free from Black*Star’s clutches. “So, what do you say? Are you guys ready to see what lies ahead of us?”
And then, they all passed through the gate to the Afterlife as if no time had passed at all.
“A sound soul dwells within a sound mind and a sound body.”

KidLiz week was great and I had an amazing time writing for it!
I’d really love some feedback on this piece, it’s the longest one I’ve ever done for SOul Eater, so I’d love to know how it was. :)
Theme: Crossover
A cross over with Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. Liz doesn’t like it when a certain angel starts to flirt with her boyfriend.
still on a bit of a black butler kick, if you couldn’t tell
this is actually the second version of this pic. the first was rushed and awful so i scrapped it. Can you tell i tried something new with the shading?? it stinks but it’s better than the last one
KidLiz week day 07 - Lord and Lady Death
Welcome to the final day of KidLiz Week! You guys did a wonderful job with everything, so let's end it with a bang to keep that figurative winning streak!
Theme: Cosplay
The trio all dressed up in costumes Kid get a surprise when Liz picks the costume

HULLO MY FELLOW KIDLIZ SHIPPERS!!!!
This is my submission for Day 6 of KidLiz week! For the crossover prompt i’ve chosen to smoosh together Soul Eater and the gender-swapped version of Adventure Time.
Kid’s character is inspired by Marshall Lee and iz is based off Fionna.
I know it sounds silly but hopefully it isn’t that bad!
Anyways, hope you enjoy!!!

—————————————————–
‘Wake Up Sis, You have a visitor!’ a voice hollered from the ground level of the treehouse.
Liz released a low growl as she rolled over in her bed. Meh. It wasn’t really a bed, more a pile of animal skin blankets and pillows.
Opening her eyes she glanced towards the window and noticed the sun was, only just, hovering above the horizon. Hauling herself out of bed, the tugged at the red onesie she slep in. It clung to her skin and scratched at her arms.
‘Who is it’, she called back as she began walking towards her wardrobe. Tens of outfits, all the same colour, spilling out from behind the wooden doors.
‘It’s Kid’, her sister called back.
She almost slipped over her own feet when she heard that name. Her mouth formed a giddy grin as she began rifling through the closet for something to wear.
‘Ok, give me five minutes!’ she responded.
Kid was the vampire that lived in the cave a short walk south from her treehouse. He had pale skin with a slight blue tint and pointy fangs that appeared whenever he smiled. He could play bass guitar and had a badass vibe about him. That was only for show though. Whenever he was with her he showed a softer, more sensitive side. Liz may or may not have a crush on said vampire and that may’ve been a contributing factor to her excitement.
Liz settled on a pale blue jumpsuit, ‘It’s summer so why not’, she thought to herself as she slipped into the garment. In a frantic dash not to keep Kid waiting she tossed her crystal sword into her backpack and slipped her bunny hat onto her head. With a final nod at her reflection in the mirror, she snatched up her bag and dashed down the stairs.
As she jumped from the last step and bounded into the living room she was met by the sight of Kid sitting at the kitchen table. Patty was cooking up a plate of bacon pancakes (Liz’s favourite breakfast) as she walked towards them.
‘Good morning Kid’ Liz chirped, ruffling his hair as she strolled past. On her way to the stove, she grabbed a plate and fork, her tools to steal some pancakes.
‘Morning Patty’ she said as she gave her catgirl sister a tight hug. Patty almost dropped the spatula at as her arms were forcefully squished against her torso.
‘You’re just using me to get to the pancakes aren’t you?’ Patty giggled, turning her gaze towards Liz’s hand. Having released the limb from the hug, Liz was pointing the fork towards the plate in at attempt to flick the towering pancake stack onto her own plate.
‘It’s not what it looks like’ Liz replied, continuing her quest to scoop the golden discs onto her plate.
‘Oh, I think it is. You could’ve just asked’ Patty chuckled as she toppled the topmost pancakes onto Liz’s plate. Liz grinned like an idiot as she triumphantly strolled back to the table, pancake in hand.
‘So Kiddo, what’s the plan for today?’, Liz questioned, preparing to shovel a forkful of pancakes into her mouth.
‘Well, I was thinking we could go out to the strawberry fields, maybe…if you want to’, he replied, scratching the back of his neck as he finished his sentence. Gosh it drove her wild when he did that. Did he not realise the effect he had on her? Obviously not.
‘Sounds fun’ Liz said after she regained her composure, her mouth still full of pancakes. She washed the golden deliciousness down with a glass of orange juice before scooping up her mess and dumping it in the sink.
‘I’m gonna get going now Patty. Thanks for breakfast’ she said as she ruffled her sister’s blonde hair.
‘No worries sis, just come back in one piece kay’?’ Patty responded, brushing down her hair as her tail swung behind her.
Liz turned back once more as she left the house and saw Patty give her a cheeky smile paired with a wink. That girl was always up to no good Liz thought to herself.
Walking out the door into the sunlight, Liz stepped to the side to wait for Kid to open his umbrella. The vampire’s one weakness, other than stakes supposedly (do those even do anything? Liz’s vampire knowledge was not up to par), was sunlight so living in the sunshin-ey land of Aah was not ideal for Kid.
He opened the tattered, yet strong, umbrella, allowing the ribbon attatched to the top to unwind. As they walked together, Liz stepped closer to him so that she too was under the umbrella. Time slowly passed as they began to bicker over video games, movies and candy kingdom news. The sun rose higher into the sky and beat down on them even harder, it’s stone eyes wide open as it laughed manically.
The fields felt so far away and the sun seemed to stretch the landscape with it’s madness fuelled rays. Kid seemed to be feeling the heat too, his hands leaving sweaty prints on the umbrella handle and the area under his brow beginning to swell with some form of vampire-ish blisters. His eyes were set on the path ahead, his cool gaze unwavering, but Liz could tell he was in pain.
‘Maybe we should just go to your house and watch movies or something’ Liz suggested, removing her bunny hat and allowing light brown locks to tumble over her shoulders. She wiped away the sweat that’d formed on her brow and looked up to him. The immortal had become taller over the past few months and now towered over her, especially when he was floating a decent 10 inches off the ground.
Kid let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding and slowed to a stop.
‘I was thinking the same thing’ he said, floating back down to the ground and looking straight into her eyes.
‘I just didn’t want to disappoint you’ he added, a pink blush dusting his cheeks. Liz almost squealed from the cuteness.
‘You’d never disappoint me Kiddo! Plus, the strawberries will still be there next time’ she smiled, her heart fluttering as she reached up to ruffle his hair.
‘My place is pretty far from here though, do you want to fly?’ he queried, looking towards the sun from the safety of his umbrella.
‘It’d probably be a lot faster’ he added thoughtfully.
‘I guess that’d be the best idea’ Liz replied as she shoved her hat into her bag and tied her hair into messy ponytail with the elastic she’d wisely hung on her wrist. Much better.
‘I guess I’ll carry you then, fair maiden’ he spoke as he bowed to her, umbrella still in hand.
Liz couldn’t find the words to reply with and instead burst into a fit of giggles. The floor disappeared from beneath her as Kid swept her into his arms.
‘This is what I get for trying to be a gentleman, how upsetting’ he said, lips forming a pout that unleashed a new fit of giggles from Liz. The ‘dangerous’ vampire that everyone was scared of was just a big nerd, she thought to herself. And that’s the way she liked it.
He fixed his arms around her knees and torso, carrying her bridal style, whilst Kid opted to carry the umbrella. She curled against his chest. Clad in a short sleeved black flannel and dark denim skinny jeans, Kid must’ve been sweltering in this heat. The only part of him not clad in black was the white part of his hair, three perfect lines, glowing against the dark confines of the umbrella. She smiled upon seeing his face. His fangs poked out only slightly as his eyes lay trained on the horizon. The fast movement and breeze in his face pushed his inky bangs backwards towards his pointed ears.
His eyes shifted down to meet hers. Liz blushed a bright crimson upon being caught, but Kid only chuckled at the sight. They flew in comfortable silence. As the cave came into view, Liz let out a sigh of relief. They’d finally be out of the blistering sun, thank Lord Death.
Kid flew into the opening, the shade, and lowered Liz to her feet. She closed the umbrella and rewound the fraying ribbon to keep it shut. She grinned at him as he unlocked the door. He smiled back.
The pair entered Kid’s house and were met with a cool breeze. A fan left running in the corner powered the gust and the two sighed in relief upon entering the living room.
‘I’m gonna go get some snacks, kay?’ Kid spoke, already making his way to the kitchen.
Liz had skipped over to the fan and stood directly in front of it.
‘Surrrrrrreeeee’ she replied, the movement of the fan giving her voice a robotic effect. Kid laughed from the kitchen and continued preparing the movie food.
Liz gazed around at the house she new so well. A small dining table, flat-screen TV, shelf and the iconic red couch were the only major furniture items inhabiting the space. Liz looked toward the shelf and saw a few picture frames. Her curiosity got the better of her and she abandoned her fan-buddy to go investigate. Upon closer inspection, three frames rested on the confines of the shelf.
Inside the first was a picture of Kid and his father Lord Death. The pair seemingly bore little resemblance since the elder was always wore a long black cloak and comedic skull mask. A giant puppet-like hand rested on Kid’s shoulder. Kid, by the way, seemed significantly younger in this picture, flannel still present, but jeans replaced with a pair of black overalls. ‘How cute!’ Liz thought before moving onto the next frame.
She recognised the picture immediately. The snap was taken at her sixteenth birthday, the event easily identified by the poofy blue dress she was clad in. The picture was of her and Kid smiling cheesily at the camera, arms wrapped in a hug. They’d always been close and she’d preferred his company much over the other candy kingdom citizens.
She move to the final picture frame and was taken even further back to when she was just a toddler. Kid appeared the same age as her despite his vampire ageing restriction thing (Liz still didn’t fully understand the whole foreign concept). Again they were locked in a tight embrace, a seemingly common thing for young Liz to initiate, except this time a piece of paper was clutched in her hand.
She remembered that paper immediately. It was a letter she wrote at the candy kingdom nursery, a letter she wrote to Kid. It read something along the lines of ‘Kiddo you’re my bestest best friend, I love you sooooo much’ , except it was written in toddler scrawl. She meant it then. Even though she was young and immature, she still knew what she was saying and knew what she felt.
At that moment, Kid walked back through the door, carrying a bag of chips, and some assorted red food items.
‘I meant what I said that day’ Liz said, turning towards him. The picture frame was in her hand and she turned it to face him. Kid placed the food on the couch and looked up to meet her gaze. Upon seeing the picture a pale blush covered his cheeks. Reaching behind his neck again, his nervous habit, he looked for words to say. He never really was the confident type.
‘Yeah, I guess I loved you too. We were kids and all so I guess…’ he trailed off.
Liz saw his discomfort and her mind began to run on instinct. She put the picture back on the shelf, and began to walk over to him, confidence in her strides.
‘Liz what are you..’ Kid didn’t get to finish his sentence. Liz pulled his chin down towards her and kissed him. It was a short kiss, but a kiss nevertheless. As they pulled away, their immediate gaze went towards each others eyes.
‘And I still mean it’ Liz added to her previous sentence, hand brushing across his face.
KidLiz Week: Day 6
Day 6: Crossover
__________
Alice fell down the rabbit hole.
She chased the White Rabbit, while it complained about time running out.
She never attended the Mad Hatter’s tea party, nor either of the Queen’s royal courts.
Instead, Alice found herself face to face with a cat known for a wide smile, but chose to frown.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Silver moonlight filtered in through the tree branches as the girl walked carefully down the dirt trail. She stepped over fallen tree after fallen tree before coming to a stop at a crossroads, the sign that towered above her, pointed in all directions except the ones that followed the path.
“You seem lost, Alice.” A smooth and silky voice purred from the shadows and the girl flattened her blue skirt in indignation.
“Everyone keeps calling me Alice! My name isn’t Alice!” The girl snapped at the voice talking to her. “My name is Liz!”
Liz’s blue eyes narrowed as she saw a shape literally appear on top of the tree branch above her. It was a boy, decked out in a black suit with bright yellow eyes and-at this point, she wasn’t surprised anymore-cat ears and a tail that waved in the air below him.
“So Elizabeth, then?” He asked and his striped tail flicked. “A very interesting name, nine letters and completely unsymmetrical but interesting nonetheless.”
“I don’t know if I could consider that a compliment.” Liz growled lowly but then she called up to him, “Have you seen my sister? Her name is Patty.”
“I’ve never met a Patty, or a Patricia for that matter.” The cat said as he tapped his clawed fingers against one another. “But I’d like to. So, tell me Elizabeth, where would you like to go?”
“I don’t know.”
“If you don’t know where you are going, then any road will get you there.” He replied. “A road can get you anywhere if want it to. Sometimes, the road can take you up, down, in, out, or any way really.”
“So you’re saying you don’t know anything?” Liz shot up at him and instantly those cat-like eyes were trained on her in a second. “You’re no help at all. No one here is, I just want to find Patty.”
“That was rude! Rabbit knows a few things and so do I, but I don’t need a weather-vane to tell me which way the wind blows.”
“Speak english.”
“Fine, fine, fine.” The cat replied as he threw his hands up before jumping from the branch. He landed with more grace than Liz had in her entire body. “I have not met a Patricia or Patty, but I do believe you’d find her if you really think about it. Now, Elizabeth, why did you follow the Rabbit?”
“The Rabbit is my sister and I want her back.”
“Oh, is that it?” The cat chuckled and the girl frowned as a smile that seemingly went from ear to ear split across his face. “But you don’t know where to go. And yet you’ve come here, among all other places. You seem to be frowning when this is a perfect time to be smiling!”
“You’re crazy.”
“I’m not crazy, my reality is just different than your’s.”
“Yeah, whatever.” Liz shot back. She really didn’t have time for this. “Can you please tell me where to find my sister?”
The cat blinked and his ears twitched. Liz narrowed her eyes when she noticed only one ear had three stripes on it, just the stripes that went around exactly half of his hair. “I don’t really know, but you can ask Hatter. Maybe March Hare? I highly doubt the Mouse would be any help to you. They’re that way.”
“I don’t want to be lead astray. You said you’d help me and now I expect you to do exactly that.”
“I never said I would help you,” The cat purred in response and just as Liz balled her hand into a fist, he crossed the clearing towards her, “But I also didn’t say I wouldn’t.”
Liz found herself staring directly into the cat’s golden eyes but she didn’t have time to even react before he delivered a small kiss to her forehead.
“But, take a road and it’ll lead you anywhere. Forget your need to lead, Liz, follow the White Rabbit.”
And just like that, he began to fade from sight, that wide smile and those glowing yellow eyes the last to go.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Liz’s eyes flicked open and she sat up slowly. She glanced around the dark bedroom, her eyes landing on the electric clock that was on her nightstand. She blinked. It was 3:14 in the morning and just beyond the red light of the numbers, she could make out a copy of Lewis Carroll’s, Alice in Wonderland.
She glanced beside her at the prone form of her Meister. He looked peaceful sleeping, his eyebrows stopped scrunching together and despite his age, he looked almost thirteen. A smile graced her face as she adjusted herself on the bed before flinching as a small creak in the mattress tore into the silence.
Yellow eyes flicked open and Kid sat up, hair in disarray as he looked over at his Weapon. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, I just woke up.” Liz said with a yawned and he smiled, even though he looked like a massive child when he wasn’t frowning. “Go back to sleep.”
He blinked a few more times and Liz found herself staring at the way those yellow eyes glowed with their own lightsource in the darkness. He shrugged and simply flopped over onto the pillows.
The Demon Pistol smile and laid back down, nestling herself in his arms before going back to sleep.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
And so, no matter how she tried to deny it, Alice had fallen in love with the cat.
KidLiz Week: Day 5
Day 5: cosplay
——-
“Why are we doing this?” Kid growled in an irritable fashion as he tilted his head backwards ever so slightly before putting in his final colored contact. He blinked and both of his golden eyes were a foreign blue. He adjusted the black wig he had on and frowned as he made it symmetrical.
“Because, it’s cosplay day at school and you know there is a free 100% on one of Stein’s exams for the best group cosplay.” Liz countered as she finished tying her last ribbon on her pink wig. “And you agreed to go as characters from Mirai Nikki with the others.”
The reaper rolled his eyes. “Of course, but why did we get stuck with Yuno Gasai and Yukiteru Amano?”
“We’re the only couple, remember?”
“Yeah,” he countered, “but, she’s crazy and he’s spineless. Quite the opposite of both of us.”
The Demon Pistol shrugged. “Eh, what can we do? We should probably head over to school. We have an hour until Stein’s class and the others wanted to meet up before school to perfect our costumes.”
“Let’s go then. Patty met up with Tsubaki earlier because she had to have her sew some part in his costume.” Kid reminded the Pistol before he shrugged on the jacket. He tightened the small box at his waist that was filled with darts. “Aren’t we meeting in front of the school?”
“Yep. Now let’s get this over with. Pink is definitely not my hair color and these stupid contacts hurt like a motherfu-”
“Agreed. This makes me glad I don’t need glasses.” Kid sighed. “We’ll probably get used to them.”
Liz rolled her eyes before grabbing his hand dragging him away from the mirror. “Come on, Maka will use Witch Hunter on us if we’re late.”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
“Ah, there’s the adorable couple!” Black*Star called out with a laugh as he gave a thumbs up to the two arriving members. The shortest boy ran a hand through his orange-dyed hair before throwing on a hat. He looked like a five-year-old, which coincidentally, he was cosplaying as. “Kid, Liz, come on we’ve been waiting forever!”
“He means five minutes.” Tsubaki said with a soft smile. She blinked her now purple eyes. She was cosplaying as another Diary Owner who was actually named Tsubaki. “We just got here.”
“But for a big god like me, five minutes is forever!”
“Ugh, this wig is so big!” Maka groaned as she walked over, decked out in a frilly dress, purple wig and colored contacts. The wig was bigger than her head with the purple mane tied into twin pigtails. “Why the hell did you guys want me to cosplay as the one person who is a freakin’ terrorist?!”
“At least you’re not some creepy guy who get’s beheaded.” Soul sighed. He didn’t have to change his hair color or eye color. He had the easiest. “Akise Aru, really? You wanted an albino dressing up as an albino?”
“Easy to save money.” Liz laughed as she saw her sister skip into view. Patty’s wig was grey and in two long pony-tails. “Besides, at least we didn’t pick something impossible to cosplay.”
There were nods of agreement until Black*Star suddenly narrowed his eyes at the only couple. “Aren’t Yuno and Yukiteru together?”
Liz nodded as Kid raised an eyebrow. “Yeah, why?”
“And you’re together! So, that means,” his voice rose to a shout, “THE MOST POWERFUL GOD WAS RIGHT ABOUT CASTING.”
“If you don’t shut up,” Liz growled, “I am going to re-enact the part in the anime where you were stabbed….by me.”
There was laughter and then Soul grinned, shark like teeth glinting in the light. “Oh I bet you’d love to re-enact the anime with Kid.”
Liz didn’t even miss a moment. “Oh, I’d love to~!”
Kid’s eyebrow twitched and Liz smirked. There wasn’t a moment of hesitation before she grabbed the reaper by the collar and was kissing him. He, at first, didn’t know what to do with his hands, before settling them on her waist.
She was pretty sure she heard someone from the NOT class scream, “Oh god, they’re taking the cosplay too far!”
KidLiz Week: Day 4
Day Four: NSFW (No lemon)
I know I’m a day late. I forgot to post this yesterday. :/
———-
Patty found herself smiling.
It was something she did often, even if the time wasn’t really the best. It was just habit from her days living on the streets of Brooklyn. A smile and a laugh would make a person scared, especially with a pistol jabbed at their throat. And when a person was a scared, they got desperate and desperation meant more money.
But now, her smile was of happiness as her sister sauntered into the kitchen. Hair wet from a shower as a black robe was tied around her curvy form. Liz yawned and put a few pieces of bread in the toaster.
“You’re up later than usual.” Patty laughed in the childish way she did as she hopped up on the counter, deciding to use the granite at a seat. “Usually you’re the one waking me up.”
“Long night.” Liz yawned as she ran a hand through her wet hair. “Besides, it’s Saturday. It’s practically law for someone to sleep in.”
“Kid in the shower?”
“Yeah.”
They had rescued their Meister almost a week ago from the clutches of that creep Noah and the Book of Eibon. Liz had practically refused to let Kid out of her sight after that being the reaper had been extremely underfed and dehydrated. No one in Spartoi could say they didn’t feel their heart clench when they saw each of his ribs jutting out from his paper white skin. But, thanks to Tsubaki’s amazing cooking and Killik’s mom friend aspect, he had finally started to gain the weight he needed for his height.
Patty hadn’t been surprised when Kid and Liz went the night prior on their date that had to be postponed due to Kid’s kidnapping. “So, how was the date?”
Her sister nodded as she turned around to face her sibling, a steaming cup of coffee in her hands. “Good. We went to that Italian restraunt on the other side of town.”
She lifted the coffee to her face and began to drink as her sister opened her mouth and asked, “How was the sex?”
Liz made a choking sound in her throat as she practically threw herself at the sink after she had set the mug down. She broke off into a coughing fit after she spat out the coffee. “What the hell, Patty?!” Liz asked between coughs. “How?”
“You’re wearing his robe.” She turned beet red when she looked down at the black robe hugging her curves. She swallowed. She must’ve left her’s in the bathroom. “Yeah, but that doesn’t mean I slept with him! He’s like fifteen!”
Patty tossed her head back and laughed. “You do realize that we missed his sixteenth and seventeenth birthday, right? So, he’s practically a legal adult! Don’t even deny it, sis, you’ve been wanting to pounce on that for months.”
Liz was still the color of a fire truck as she stuttered and fumbled for her words. “O-okay I admit I have but come on, it is Kid. A literal God. Who wouldn’t want to just grab a handful of his ass and just say ‘nice’?”
“Obviously every girl who has seen you two together. He’s practically your territory. No one would dare take on a girl from Brooklyn who can wield a pistol!” Patty was in hysterics as she put a hand over her burning lungs. “I guess I won my bet with Black*Star. He thought you two would hook up after the second date. I guess there was a reason you took so long to turn back into a girl in Lust.”
“Shut up, Patty.”
“Let me guess, all hands?”
Even though it seemed impossible, Liz went an even deeper shade of red. “Yeah but dear god it was amazing."
"I can tell.”
They jumped when the toast suddenly popped up from the toaster, the scent of baked bread wafting throughout the kitchen in an instant. Liz sauntered over to the fridge and pulled out the butter. The eldest Demon Pistol chuckled. “Well, I’m having better luck than both Tsubaki and Soul. Those two can’t even wrap their heads around the idea that they want to get some from their Meisters."
Patty nodded. "Yeah. The girls are going to be so ecstatic when they find out you two finally got together!”
“Just don’t tell Black*Star. He would call me a pedophile until Kid’s eighteenth.”
“To be fair you are, like, twenty one.” Patty laughed. “And don’t worry, if he does I can just kick him where it counts…again.”
“Is someone making food?”
The two weapons watched as their Meister sauntered in, black hair wet but he was decked out in Liz’s sky blue bathrobe. Liz went red and Patty laughed. The reaper grabbed Liz’s other piece of toast from her plate before taking a bite.
Patty raised an eyebrow. “So when can I expect to have a baby shinigami niece or nephew?”
Kid choked on the toast at the question while Liz had to spit out another mouthful of a coffee.
“Oh look, it’s the second time you two have made the other choke!”
“PATTY.”
And so a Grim Reaper and an Angel fell in love.

The corporate world was gruelling. Especially at Death & Co. Taxes, timesheets, schedules, contracts, leases, paperwork to do with boring, financial matters. It was giving Liz a headache the size of Europe, and she was mentally counting down the seconds until the boss gave the go-ahead to leave.
Four hundred and eighty-two, she thought. Four hundred and eighty-one … She could almost taste the frozen lasagna that awaited her in her kitchen. Her stomach grumbled at the thought, and Liz frowned. Almost there.
She was just about to clear her desk for the day when a besuited young man with ebony hair and golden, wolfish eyes strolled into her office. Liz’s eyes automatically assessed the stranger, who seemed simultaneously boyish and masculine, yet couldn’t have been much older than herself. He shot her an oddly knowing, intimate look and dropped a stack of paper onto her desktop.
“A gift for the lovely lady,” he smirked. “Boss wants you to stay back for an hour.”
“Who the hell are you, and why are you giving me this—” Liz gestured to the pile, which was leaning at a precarious angle, “—when it’s not even six minutes till everyone locks up for the day?”
“I’m Death the Kid, but I hardly think the introduction is necessary, since you might be acquainted with Father already?” he said it like a question, but there was such an air of undiluted arrogance that it was more like a policeman’s interrogation speech.
Liz’s eyes widened dramatically, and she sputtered out a reply: “Um, I-I … oh, my … b-but … holy shit!” Great going, Liz, really. Giving Shakespeare a run for his money with your prodigal wordsmith skills.
“Mhm, yeah. If I were you, I’d be nicer in the future. I mean, if you want to keep your job, that is.” His smile was more poisonous than Boston ivy, and he fingered the lapels of his black suit in that pretentious manner exclusive to snobby rich kids—excuse the pun.
“Excuse me? I don’t think my place at Death’s company should be dictated on how well I kiss your arse by playing sycophant!” retorted Liz, flushing scarlet at the haughty bastard’s previous comment.
“I definitely wouldn’t mind you kissing my arse. You’re quite easy on the eye,” mused Kid, giving her an appraising glance as she crossed her arms over her chest.
“Who on earth gave you the right to speak like that?” she exclaimed in shock.
Kid shrugged. “I play by my own rules.”
“What, are you too good for the real world? Should I bow down before you?”
“I won’t object if you do,” Kid winked at her.
“Geez, you huge pervert! Why don’t you just grab your dumb pile of paper and walk your obscene, patronising little self out of my office, thank you,” she ordered, standing up and opening the glass door for him pointedly.
“I don’t think I can do that, Elizabeth,” he said in mock despondence, placing a spindly-fingered hand over where Liz supposed his black, withered heart—if he had a heart in the first place—was.
“It’s Liz, actually. And I’m going to ignore the creepy fact that you know my name. Just leave and I won’t lodge a restraining order against you,” she huffed.
“You honestly don’t remember me, do you?” he asked now, leaning against the wall with a quizzical expression on his pale, angular face. “We’ve met before. At the Christmas function two years ago. You really can’t recognise me?”
“I think I would remember the guy with the ego larger than the Milky Way, so no.”
“Well, you did sound a little tipsy, dragging your words and swaying like that. I wouldn’t be surprised if you don’t recall even being invited.”
“Oh, shut up! Of course I recall being invited! The Christmas function happens every year, doofus,” she replied indignantly. “Yeah, curious thing about Christmas. It tends to be an annual thing.”
“I can feel my IQ dropping with every word that escapes your mouth, so I’d appreciate it if you vacated my office. Very important work happens here.”
“Nah, I’m good. But you might want to fix up a few things in here. It’s not very neat and symmetrical.” He tapped the teetering floor lamps with the toe of his shoe.
“You got OCD or something, dude?” Liz sneered, shooting Kid a scathing look.
Kid recoiled as if she’d hit him with an anvil, and when he spoke, it was calm, deliberate, like he was selecting every word precisely to deliver the desired effect. “It was a masked ball, all seventeenth century French style. The women dressed in gowns like royals, and the men in suits. You wore a black mask and a red dress … nobody could take their eyes off you. I was the guy in the white Phantom of the Opera mask … we talked, we danced, and then when I went to get drinks, you left. I remember seeing you slip away into the crowd; your mask was off.”
Liz gasped. It all came flooding back, and suddenly Kid was the enigmatic man she had danced with all night, her floor-length red dress [with that seductively skintight lace bodice] swishing around their feet as he spun her around the ballroom. She’d felt like a princess that night, but eventually she’d locked the memory away within her brain. After all, it was only one time, and her life had no room for dashing love interests that swept her off her feet as if it was a fairytale. She lived in the real world, a world of money and deals and finances and legalities and rules and all the other things that were practical but horrible. There was no time for romance, or illusions that suggested the possibility of it, so it was repressed, hidden away in the vaulted recesses of her brain, and that was that.
“You. It was you,” was all she could respond. “B-But … you were so charming. Was it all a facade to get attention, or do you have multiple personality disorder as well?”
“Of course not,” said Kid, and when he spoke, he sounded completely serious. “I merely think that once a person rudely deserts you, being hostile is warranted.”
“I knew you for, like, five minutes!” she protested heatedly.
“I believe we met around an hour after the party began, and you left fifteen minutes before it ended. So all in all, that was three and a half hours, actually,” he corrected.
“Is being a total douchebag one of your talents?”
“If you wanted to see one of my talents, you should stayed till midnight,” Kid remarked, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.
“If you want to see one of my talents, then keep going and you’ll end up with a bruised face and the inability to father children.”
Kid laughed, and despite Liz’s lack of partiality for him, she liked the sound. It was deep and beautiful and the kind of laugh that one would feel proud to have evoked.
“Ten o’clock tomorrow, then. Meet me at the patisserie across the street.”
And with one final wink, he exited her office, leaving Liz confused and, though she’d never admit it, heart-poundingly electrified.
Kid x Liz Week
Day Three: Kiss
Copyright © 2015 - Li Morris
Any reproduction, plagiarism, replication or any other unauthorised use of this work is against the law and persons or groups responsible will be prosecuted.
Liz was playing a video game that she sucked at. Yet again. Her avatar in the game was about to lose it’s final life in Legions of War, and to her horror, there wasn’t any saving her poor little animated equivalent. Her opponent bounded up to her and slashed her stomach with a knife before impaling her back on a spike. Yikes.
Suddenly, the front door swung open (causing her to give an exceedingly embarrassing jump in her seat) and a very cross-looking Death the Kid stormed inside as if he was escaping either, a; a hurricane, or b; a very unpleasant situation. His hands were raking through his short inky hair, eyebrows furrowed in what could only be the most intense irateness. Kid’s mouth was set in a hard line, jaw clenches and hands fisted so tightly in his pants’ pockets that Liz could see them from where she sat a metre away. Liz stood up, and approached him.
“Oh, hey,” she said. “What are you doing here? It’s half past eight.”
“I need to talk to you,” he gritted out angrily, as if it was taking him all the effort in the universe not to snap.
Liz was worried now. Kid was never like this. Ever. “What’s wrong, Kid?”
“What’s wrong? Huh, wouldn’t you like to now.”
“Well then, if you have something you’d like to say, then spit it out. Come on,” she retorted, frowning at his completely odd behaviour. “I can assure you I have no part in this little episode of yours, though, so save me the blaming and anger.”
Kid’s eyes narrowed, and Liz noticed a thin sheen of sweat running down his face, onto his chest and disappearing under his black tee shirt. She tried not to stare.
“I’m pretty sure you do. I heard what you and Tsubaki were discussing yesterday.”
“That was nothing important. Just girl stuff, like clothes and shoes and makeup,” Liz disagreed. “It had nothing to do with you, if that’s what you’re worried about.”
Liz attempted to touch his arm in consolation, but Kid recoiled as if she’d stung him.
“Don’t,” he all but snarled. “I don’t mean what you were talking about before the bell went yesterday morning, I meant at lunch. I heard.” Liz’s eyes widened. “Okay, I can explain—”
“Go. Ahead. Try me.”
“Fine,” she spat back. “Tsubaki and I were talking about how she and Black*Star were doing now that they’re officially dating. She said she was really excited to go out on their next date, and we were gushing about it. I told her I was very happy that she’d found her perfect guy, and then she asked me about my love life—”
“Eugh,” Kid groaned, pulling a face.
“—Do you want the full story or what? Honestly. Anyway, I told her nothing was going on, and she asked if you and I had ever kissed. I’m guessing you heard me say I typically don’t go for guys like you and I won’t be changing that anytime soon?”
“That’d be it,” he said coldly. “But keep going, I heard it all.”
“Then she asked me why, and I said that we’ve always got the shits with each other for something or other, so a relationship would be a death sentence. And that you also have a big ego. And that you dress really goth-like, and you look like you’ve got a funeral to go to every day. Is that all you heard?” she asked. “I don’t understand!” he shouted at her. “Is that really how you think of me?”
“Not really,” she admitted. “The only thing that was true was that we fight a lot.”
“So why did you say it then?!”
“Because. Tsubaki would have gotten really excited if I said anything nice about you, and then would’ve told Maka, Patty and Jackie about it, who’d tell everybody in the whole of Death City!” she yelled, breathing heavily.
“The truth always comes at a price, Liz! I don’t understand your problems admitting how you feel!”
“‘How you feel’?” she sneered, glaring at Kid. “You … listen, I don’t have problems admitting my feelings.”
“Then tell me exactly how you feel about me,” Kid challenged lowly, his voice breaking at the end of his statement.
“You, Death the Kid, are an obnoxious, impatient, obsessive compulsive, anxious, shitty little ball of gothic unpleasantness,” she began firmly. “You are completely irrational when you’re angry, and you make me want to hit you in the head just so you shut up. I also think that you are very kind, very passionate about things you love, and loyal to those you care about. You are the single most interesting person I’ve ever met, and even though you infuriate me, I wouldn’t change you for the world. Not even a little bit. You’re determined and committed, and you’re so incredibly intelligent that I can’t fathom how all that brainpower fits in that head of yours. And it’s because of all those things, all the bad and the good, that I’m in love you, you giant bloody idiot—”
Kid made a noise that sounded a bit like “Whaaaaaaaa?”, his mouth gaping and a flush spread across his cheeks. Suddenly, he looked very awkward, and his gaze dropped to his shoes in shame.
Kid looked back up, with a firm, resolute look on his face. He took a step closer to her and placed a hand on her jaw. He began to lean forward, his face getting closer and closer to hers, and Liz found that she could spot the tiny brown freckles on his nose and cheeks.
“Liz,” he murmured, like a line from his favourite song.
Then his lips, his soft, pink lips, connected with hers. And it was utter oblivion, apart from the tingling sensation of his mouth against hers, and she reached up to cradle his sharp jaw with her hands. His lips were warm as he looped his arms around her waist, tugging her closer until there was no room for air between them. A deep shiver ran up her spine, and Liz could feel the static, the raw, untainted electricity in the room. The video game’s soundtrack played in the background, a vague sound that Kid’s lips wiped from her brain until she couldn’t hear anything but the sound of their breathing, his voice as he whispered fervently between kisses, “I love you, too. I always have.”
“Always?” she breathed, looking into his eyes, searching for the thing that would tell her otherwise. But she couldn’t find it.
Kid gave a single nod, and pressed his lips to hers in yet another heartstopping kiss. Liz wrapped her arms around his neck and Kid tilted his head, sending her straight to the stars. She’d never been kissed like this ever before. Like the world was ending. Like it was the last time they’d ever touch. Like it was their last kiss. When they broke away, Liz supposed it must have been a good twenty minutes of making out. As they fought to regain their breath, Liz thought of something.
“Are you sure … us … is a good idea?” she asked.
“We love each other, don’t we?” replied Kid. “I’m positive.”
“Are you positive that you’re positive?”
“Of course.” Kid rolled his eyes, grinning.
“Positive?”
“If you don’t shut up, I’ll have to kiss you again.”
“I think I’ll keep talking then.”
It was safe to say that that night, Liz and Kid didn’t do much talking.
