Allowing my father to have so much control over my mother’s company. I know I couldn’t do anything as a child, but even in my teenage years and early twenties I could have done more. I was too focused on making him angry, and ruining his happiness instead of focusing on what my late mother would want. It was foolish, and selfish and if I could change it I would.

She’s definitely a drunk dial now. After leaving being drunk is what gives him the confidence to reach out, because he now thinks it’s best to separate himself from her entirely. But he misses her, and will never stop so once the alcohol takes over he’ll call. It’ll be a lot of profuse apologies, and thinking back to the times he fooled himself into thinking he could make her happy. Also emphasizing how he really wanted for them to be happy, and that he’s sorry it couldn’t work out that way.

IT WAS ONLY A WEEKDAY and yet the cafe was already filled with people taking up every empty table they can find, none of them looking like they are going to be leaving anytime soon with their laptops charging away on their table as they typed or the piles of paperwork strewn across the table. She could go to a different cafe if she wanted to but when she was tired and just wants to finish her work as soon as she can, she decided instead to build up her courage, giving herself a pep talk in her head the entire time as she walks over to a table that she sees was only taken up by one. She felt a little awkward, not wanting to disturb him with how busy he appeared to be so she waited until she saw an opportunity to speak, smiling first and foremost as her apology when he finally noticed her. Instead of sitting down, she places her things down on the chair first before helping him clear the table. “No, I should be the one saying sorry for intruding your space but there is nowhere else. Do excuse me for sharing a table with you. I promise I will not bother you after this.” 

the politeness coating her tone only made him feel a bit more guilty for hogging an entire table for his overworked and hectic mind. “intruding my place? please, don’t be silly. i don’t own this place..-- though, i certainly spent enough money in here on coffee alone to at least hold partial share of it.” the joke was followed by a sweet laugh as he finally deemed the table clean enough for her to join him. “it’s completely fine, don’t worry about bothering me it really wasn’t a problem.” he’d promised once again. her level of understanding being something that reminded him of his mother. perhaps subconsciously, it’s why he felt so at ease as he watched her make herself comfortable in the seat across from him. “once again i apologize for selfishly stealing a table.” it was spoken one last time for good measure.
