The Jewish community is no stranger to disagreements and infighting. But whether you’re reform or orthodox, Israeli or in the diaspora, religious or secular, I think we can all agree:
Fuck the messianics
I have a picture for night five but I seem to have misplaced it.
Happy Hanukkah!
As too often happens, our days for celebration turn into mourning. But we will keep the spirit of Hannukah this year not in spite of the events, but because of them. Jewish visibility and unity is more important than ever. May the memory of the victims be a blessing and may we never have to bury loved ones during our holidays.🕯

Malala was shot in the head by Islamists for fighting for women and girl’s right to education.
Greta is an antisemite who went to a middle eastern war zone in an obvious publicity stunt to make it about herself because she’s desperate to be the center of attention now that she’s not the child star she once was
The fact that young people now idolize Greta over Malala tells me everything wrong with this generation. Not only are they deeply plagued with Jew hate, they no longer consider women’s rights or women’s oppression by Islamists to be a cause worth their time (because we can’t focus on anything that distracts from the Omnicause™️)
(And by the way this is a lie, Malala did tweet about the flotilla and does talk about Gaza. But for some reason pro Palestinians keep attacking her. Gee I wonder why they don’t like her it’s almost like their cause is an Islamist cause and not a human rights cause HMMMM)
MALALA??????? THEYRE CANCELLING MALALA?????????????????
It's very simple. One young woman was specifically targeted by the Taliban and shot in the head as a child for her activism around education. The other young woman was born into every advantage and was elevated by her wealthy parents into a child star after they refused to meaningfully address her anxiety around climate. They launched her into the public eye subject to both hate and death threats and adulation as a 'perfect innocent' while not completing her education or any post-secondary education. (Child Star phenomenon)
To the best of my knowledge Malala Yousafzai has advocated strenuously for many worthy causes, including the Palestinian people without dehumanizing Jews. When Greta switched her hyperfixation from climate anxiety to the Palestine omnicause/fandom in Western activist circles, she made no effort to humanize Jews or separate herself from the worst elements of the activist fandom. When a social media post of hers protesting treatment of palestinian prisoners accidentally included the emaciated hostage Evyatar David literally being made to dig his own grave, she deleted it with no comment.
Thunberg deleted an Instagram post protesting the “cruelty” dealt to Palestinian prisoners in Israel after mistakenly used Hamas propaganda.
This is not to pit either woman against each other. I wish them both happy and successful lives. This is to point out that Malala Yousafzai is doing worthy work and living her life and Greta Thunberg was failed by every single authority figure and parent in her own life and appears to be on the trajectory to radicalization, where some people's lives and humanity are worth more than others. I think unless Ms. Thunberg addresses the damage that was done to her, her anxiety and reward-complex around being an anointed chld-savior (which she has since aged out of) means she will chase misery and radicalize over and over again.
A long-time patron at the library noticed my Magen David necklace today. She stopped, looked at me and said, “Your necklace is pretty. Does it… mean something?”
I got nervous, thought of a million things to say and then just… told the truth: “I’m converting to Judaism.”
Her whole face lit up. “I’m…” she tapped her chest and gave me a significant look.
We talked about my journey, her grandson who lives in Jerusalem now, all kinds of things. For half an hour. I think she would have hugged me if there hadn’t been a desk in the way.
After almost a year of lighting candles, I managed the blessing without reading it.
I had a dream last night that if I could keep all of the candles in a big hall decorated for Christmas lit, one of my OCs would come to life. I had a box of Shabbat candles and was running from holder to holder, trying to light them all.
There were so many holders that by the time I’d lit the last one, the first had burned down and gone out. There were other holders in downdrafts from the heating system that kept blowing out whenever the heat kicked on. Some leaned too close to others and burned down faster. Some dripped.
I ran out of candles long before I could get everything lit and I curled up in a ball, sobbing because I’d failed him. Not because it wasn’t a possible task. Not because I’d been unable to succeed. I sobbed because *Gideon* wouldn’t get to be real.
I think I have a problem.
Also, my first conversion-related dream.
Shabbat shalom Jews in my phone. Have a restful weekend, please
judaism disappoints me because there is no magic. There is no walking on water. There is Moses and the burning bush and the splitting of the sea years ago. Any resources to find a positive perspective on Jewish history and suffering and lack of magic? The religion feels very realistic and I'm dying and how much it sucks. There are no gurus.
.
Bruh what
How did they arrive at this conclusion?
We eat UNICORNS AND DRAGONS after the end of the world where also the righteous people are BROUGHT BACK TO LIFE!
"there's no magic after Moses" Elijah brought a whole person back to life!
That's not even touching the kabbalah and the long line of Jewish mysticism.
I'm not sure how much of the Tanakh you've read if this is your conclusion, Anon.
in the gemara (specifically chulin 127 for those who are curious) there is a creature mentioned that is half mouse and half dirt, which is specifically described as not able to sexually reproduce and instead is spontaneously generated from the earth
it's also mentioned in sanhedrin 91 actually, where it explains that a person who touches the flesh part become tamei (ritually impure) while a person who touches the dirt part remains tahor (ritually pure)
even the rambam aka Mr. Rationalist himself acknowledged that this creature exists and explains that he's heard many firsthand accounts from people seeing one
if this ain't magic I don't know what is!

Such a great podcast. ❤️
I have no tolerance for gentiles who act like they're chill with Jewish people, just not THOSE ones...
Whatever kind of Jew you have a problem with*, that's the kind of Jew I am for the rest of the conversation.
*with the exception of actual crazies like Neturei Karta, Lev Tahor, Kahanists, Messianics, etc.
You start talking about your problems with "Ultra Orthodox" Jews? I'm feeling frummer by the second. I can't hear your opinions over this nigun. Just for that we're saying the WHOLE service, we're singing ALL the verses. We're about to argue halacha on a level you've never imagined.
You don't like Israelis? You think Jews making Aliyah is colonization? Lehit mami, I'm on my way to the Nefesh b'Nefesh office. See you next year in Jerusalem. Don't forget the sunblock.
You don't like atheist Jews who insist on keeping their culture and not assimilating? I'm reading Scholem and Spinoza and Sacks on the metro. I'm lighting candles and making havdalah. I'm rooting myself in the Hebrew literary tradition stretching back millenia. I'm ignoring your secular Christian holidays because mine are older, better, and mine.
You're fine with Jews, but not with Zionists? I'm painting a giant blue magen David on my chest. I'm hanging the Israeli flag on my balcony. I'm blasting Shedemati and Adama Admati and Mi Yivne Bayit on my boom box.
You don't like Ashkenazim? I'm making an extra bit batch of gefilte fish. I'm putting raisins in the fucking kugel. I'm using Yiddish plurals in English and Hebrew alike. No tav is safe from becoming a tas.
I could go on and on. You don't like diaspora Jews? You don't like Reform Jews? You don't like vocal opinionated Jews? I could do this ALL DAY. Whatever kind of Jew you don't like, I am about to be that very Jew.
We are one family and one people. I'm not interested in allies who want to draw a line somewhere through our community, no matter where that line is or why you're trying to draw it.
adhd jewish culture is:
>oh its like an hour until sundown i have time
>*scrolls on phone for three hours*
>*checks time*
>FUCK i forgot to light candles
surely this can't happen every week. surely
