one of the things that i'm surprised i don't see more people talking about, regarding the alex meyers obsession video, is how he talks about the way he was expecting bear to be, based on how people were talking abt him online. he repeatedly talks about how bear's actions are pretty tame and how he was expecting him to be super outwardly misogynistic. but that's literally the point of the movie. it shows how misogyny and selfishness disguise themselves. someone doesn't have to physically (not sexually bc bear does do that) assault and berate women to be misogynistic.
he really pushes the narrative that bear doesn't immediately take advantage of her like how other people would so he must not be a terrible misogynistic incel. ignoring that bear would've assaulted her if not for the fact that the real nikki comes back and freaks out, he still is all of these things. obsession shows the more tame version of a cowardly misogynistic rapist because they come in more than one form. it's important to represent that abusers and rapists and misogynists aren't a rigid stereotype that only appear at violent unreasonable people that one can spot the second they see them because they aren't. sometimes they're disguised better than that.
the fact that alex meyers kept saying all this stuff abt how he can't be all these terrible things because he doesn't immediately come off the way that the stereotype of rapists and assaulters really shows a lot about how he puts people into boxes that he thinks fits them and refuses to change his stance about them even when they've given sufficient proof that they're more than a stereotype.
