after finishing s2 of agggtm, i started reading the 3rd book so i could remember what it was about since my last re-read. holly jackson are yoh okah?

everything feels so real and morbid and im clutching my heart and getting paranoid about my surroundings. all the shelves and blood are as ever present as can be around all of me. is this a normal reading experience for all of you or just me? i get too immersed in the books i read sometimes bc its helps me get more engrossed and connect to the characters more, and this is one of those moments where i regret having that ability.

the last time i read this series in its entirety, the show hadnt come out yet. the characters were more of an idea in my head rather than smth tangible that i can picture clearly. but after this read, considering i know what the characters look like now, i can visualize it so much clearer. my mind keeps switching between 3rd person and first, placing pip in that warehouse then myself next with my hand read and jumping out onto the gravel. this is not healthy for my already paranoid thoughts.

someone tell me if this is a regular reading experience for most readers or atleast a portion of them.

cottage/lake thoughts

shane’s better at paddle boarding than ilya. they’re both professional athletes with great balance but it takes ilya awhile to get adjusted meanwhile shane’s doing yoga on his just to be a show off

shane and ilya argue over names for the boat and eventually shane gets “wolf bird” painted on it

ilya isn’t allowed to drive the boat that first summer bc he doesn’t have the proper license but shane helps him study for the written test

anya has a life vest with a shark fin

it’s equally impressive and annoying to everyone how well they do in a tandem kayak or canoe together, paddling in perfect unspoken harmony (hayden and jackie almost get divorced)

they run off the dock and do fancy jumps into the water, making the other person rate them like the olympics

they lay on the dock together at night and watch the stars, sometimes talking and sometimes in comfortable silence

the best part of the day is when they come inside, take a shower together, and collapse on the couch all sleepy from their outdoor shenanigans. ac is blasting so they grab a soft blanket and snuggle in to watch a movie

reheating rn and the first meeting really is such a giveaway. shane introduces himself and shakes his hand, 'tells' ilya that smoking isnt permitted there and he smokes regardless and stares shane down. tries to give him a compliment incase he was a bit rude abt assuming slavic ilya didnt read the sign/an attempt to continue the conversation which ilya barely responds to in accordance to his Horrors.

and when shane turns away, ilya thinks he's finally leaving only for him to do a 270 and lean against the wall. like whatever r u waiting 4 bunny. i was rude to you using my tough guy/not from here personality and you WANT to loiter?? and offer me ANTHER FUCKING HANDSHAKE?? fine i will crack a smile but that is it u lovely boy i do notknow.

this is where he tripped. and kept falling. except for the brief period where he dated rose landry. that is when he caught the handrail for a sec. nevertheless its anti tartarus all the way down

imagine every vacation cliché ever. shane and ilya get a break from the season and decide to take a vacation and you bet they fucking love vacations. for shane is designated relaxation time and ilya is always looking to spend time alone w his man doing fuckall and his shane is there asw?? sign them up.

this is set post outing and they are competitive people. best players in the nhl so they do everything to its fullest. including vacation time.

they are rocking up in floral shirts and nothing but the tiniest shorts. they are taking part in every activity the place offers and having an absolute BALL interacting with everyone. picture colourful drinks with umbrellas and flamingo figurines, big fucking hat and an EXTENSIVE collection of sunglasses. they have nowhere else to be with sunscreen on their noses and sunbathing on the beach while ilya is eating all the seafood he can get his hands on, trying to feed shane with his hands ALL THE FUCKING TIME. you mustn't forget that they are the most talented hockey players in the world and they are A COUPLE. a COUPLE on VACATION. they are kissing and wrestling in the sand and recreating every adam sandler movie period. if you like pinã coladas vibe from top to bottom.

and The Sex. FREAK4FREAK rich men shane and ilya rented out a whole villa on a private beach for shane's real estate fetish (he has some good contacts atp) and they are going at it multiple times a day. eod tired as hell but satisfied.

it is v imp to acknowledge these competitive ass men bringing their competitiveness to every aspect of their lives and they js succeed at it all. even vacationing. shanes plans everything bc it helps him feel more calm and pput together if he knows nothing will go wrong and ilya is trophy husbanding his way through it all while boasting to people who dont care. my husband yes plan it all for me my shane. they become friends with this other couple and godforbid shane leaves for 5 mins. he is my husband best hockey player in the world. my shane yes. hollander. you know him? greatest man ever. you watch ice hockey? you do. oh nice. scott hunter? no i do not know him. maybe played 50 years ago. yes myshane and i got married last year. and hes flexing his ring at every turn.

they are pathetically and absurdly in love w each other. situations where they can really relish in each other are the best breaks they could ask for.

adding to the post abt ilya wearing the raiders merch when going to yuna and david's house. adding to the fact that he wore that they'd remember that ilya plays for mm's biggest rivals. shane's biggest rival. he probably wore it to be a scapegoat for shane. he thought his family would be angry and he would rather they be angry at ilya anf take some of the burden off his shane. because he's only ever known what an unaccepting family looks like and assumed that if that was partly what shane's family was like, he'd need protection. and he was ready to protect him again. after spending all his teenage years without his mother, the one person who loved and supported him, he did nothing but hide from his family, terrified of what they and his whole country would do to him. spent his whole life protecting himself and doesnt know how else to show his love than to put himself in the firing line of shane to protect him.

protection is his love language. how tired he must be of being the shield for the people he loves and was willing to do it again for the rest of his life for the man he LOVES. his boyfriend. but then being greated with love and forgiveness and acceptance. the insane whiplash he mustve gotten when david talked abt vodka and handed him more spaghetti and parmesean. being fed one of his first home cooked meals by his future mother in law, the furst motherly figure he's felt loved by in literal decades, and talking about having a future with his BOYFRIEND who he LOVES who loves him BACK and living a life TOGETHER. the first coming out ever for both of them as a couple and the first time he's felt this welcomed and free in years, after the cottage ofc. the weight that mustve been lifted off his chest after living with all that pressure for ever. get behind me my baby u didnt deserve any of that but im glad ur happy now.
