Funniest shit to me about the l.a. fires is that all those multi million dollar mansions are STILL dry construction it's like gringos are allergic to concrete. "Brick is expensive" favelas and villas are built better than Jamie Lee Curtis's house 😭😭
I'm open minded about many things but dry construction is not one of them. I read The Three Little Pigs when I was four so I can't be fooled on this particular matter.
this is so silly. like, actually no, brick is not allowed to be used for construction in most of california because ✨earthquakes✨ similarly, the use of concrete is highly restricted and not allowed for most construction unless it’s mostly just as a decorative part. similarly, brick is not used for most modern buildings in japan because, again, earthquakes.
we don’t generally have stuff like tornadoes, hurricanes, rain, snow. we just have fires, droughts, and earthquakes. most places with earthquakes build from wood. however fires make dry construction a better (and also cheaper) alternative to wood.
That's interesting, didn't know L.A had increased seismic activity. It's also interesting because I've been to cities with increased seismic activity such as Santiago de Chile and Mendoza and dry construction isn't normal there either, they just use systems like the Friction Pendulum System, steel reinforced concrete, etc, there are actually many ways one can design an earthquake proof house that is still made of concrete, they just take more time and money.

you come into our house (latin america) where our cousin CHILE lives and say LA is an especially sismic place to justify your shitty houses being built out of paper

Some very eloquent notes on violence as a necessity for resistance.
There is no paradox of tolerance, because tolerance is not a matter of ethics. It's a peace treaty - an agreement that only covers the people who abide by its rules.
The title of this essay should disturb you. We have been brought up to believe that tolerating other people is one of the things you do if…
And for cis white guys who are always trying to figure out how to be an ally without talking over marginalized people, without reshaping the issue to be all about you - this guy shows how.
His tactics don't work for marginalized people. They can't get away with that.
Guess who got kicked off the New York Times bestseller list even though Iron Widow, from the same publisher, hit the same list 40+ times from 2021-2022 with no issue : )
Now apparently the Google AI is hallucinating baseless damaging bs about me :/
Omg, He set the pace perfectly 🥰🐈
I think at least 90% of the people RBing this likely aren't able to appreciate that these signs are not only separated by 2 and a half months but are also audiences of two completely different companies with dramatically divided audiences.
