There is no such thing as a "wrong" way to cope with fiction. Sublimation (channeling unacceptable desires and impulses into fiction) is a mature defense mechanism found in healthy adults. Don't talk about psychology if you're not actually a doctor.

Also, trauma is pain unwitnessed. Telling people to cope in secret DOES NOT WORK. Even researchers thought it would, until they realized many women stopped coping with artwork despite improving when they no longer had someone to share it with.

People aren't stupid. Someone who was traumatized like that isn't going to magically think it's okay because they read a fictional story where it's glamourized. We're adults. when you say writers shouldnt be shamed for what they wrote, is there ever a extent? i mean, very VERY underage x older pairing type of writing. Ive seen smut like that, and it gave me an icky feeling, like i feel that way.

yeah, I really don’t care what people write. it’s not my business. if I find a fic that fits your description, I’ll just scroll past it because I…don’t like it. and whether or not you like it, ao3 allows fics like these on their platform, because no censorship means no censorship. the only etiquette ao3 has when it comes to these types of fics, or literally any other fics, is that authors tag their works properly.

overall I just don’t see what harassing or shaming people will do except create more toxic environments in fandom space. also it’ll just drain my energy, make me angry over things that aren’t my business, things I can’t control or change. so it’s healthier to just ignore and focus my time and energy on things that I like. I’m in a fandom to have fun. I am not in a fandom to be a fandom police.

my beliefs still stand firm, no fanfic writers should ever be harassed or shamed for the fanfics they write. no matter if I find these fics disgusting or morally wrong or socially unacceptable. they are only words created from fantasies that are Not Real, in a place where you can very easily block out by muting or filtering out specific tags.
