Dear Democrats, Liberals, Progressives, & left leaning Independents,
I know that I could get some serious heat for this post. However, I need to break down the facts.
If Joe Biden becomes the presidential nominee, then I implore you to vote for him over Donald Trump.
I understand that many members of the progressive left were unimpressed with Hillary Clinton in 2016. A lot of people (like myself) supported Bernie Sanders in the primaries or preferred a 3rd party candidate. So, in 2016, many people chose to not vote or voted for a 3rd party candidate.
I understand that the Democratic Party is very divided between moderates and progressives, but Trump’s party is extremely unified. If we can’t all stand behind and vote for the candidate that has the only chance of defeating Trump in 2020, then we are handing him and the Russians another win 2020.
Joe Biden is not perfect. I’m not gonna compare his merits to that of Donald Trump. In fact I currently support Elizabeth Warren, but if the moderate Democrat, Joe Biden, becomes the party’s nominee in 2020 then we should stand together with moderate democrats, and not throw away our votes by not voting, or by voting for a 3rd party candidate that helps Trump more than it hurts Biden.
I want our country to move away from a 2-party system. I do. We are not there. We don’t have the votes or a divide big enough for a 3rd party candidate to make a difference in the general election. If we divide the Democratic Party like 2016, then Trump will win swing states by the hair on his chin like he did in Florida in 2016.
Listen, Joe Biden won’t publically defend white nationalists.
Joe Biden won’t put in place homophobic pro-life judges in the highest courts of the land.
Joe Biden won’t bribe Ukraine with congressionally appropriated military aid in exchange for Ukraine taking the fall for Russian interference in the 2016 election, and some dirt on his domestic political rivals.
Trust me, Joe Biden is not the ideal progressive candidate. I wasn’t a huge fan of Hilary Clinton either. But when she became the nominee, it was either her or him.
If Joe Biden becomes the nominee and you do not currently support him, then go out there and fight for your candidate to get more funding and more attention. All you can do right now is fight for your candidate to becomes the democratic nominee. To be clear, I am completely prepared to pen a letter to the moderate Democrats if Elizabeth Warren becomes the nominee.
However, this is just a warning. If 4 years of Trump hasn’t scared you enough to not want another 4, then I don’t know if you can define yourself as a Democrat, liberal, or progressive...Trump’s base loves him no matter how many crimes he commits in front of them. I know the Democratic Party does not feel the same about Joe Biden.
But we need to stick together.
We need to fight Trumpism.
We need to fight Russian influence.
We need to fight our corrupt Republican senators.
We need to vote against Trump.
We need to vote blue!
