Romantic modern kimono with soft and fluffy yaezakura (double petal cherry blossom)
Powerful colors and patterns for this outfit, mixing bamboo and a jumping carp for auspicious overtone
Fantastic mokuren (magnolia) themed seasonal antique outfit
Kitagawa Utamaro, Woman Holding a Tortoise-shell Hair-comb, 1790
Fantastic kagura suzu (instrument used in kagura dance) and noh fan obi, with beautiful embroidery work and gold thread couching.
The bell and fan are probably a nod to the auspicious noh dance Sanbasô praying for bountiful harvests. Here are powerful modern performances:
Brisk cool tones for this outfit, pairing a nicely textured shibori kimono with hanabishi (diamond flower) pattern, with rabbits on the waves (= a way of depicting seafoam) obi.
Amazing checkered furisode, woven by Tomy from Toito fabric. This pattern with wide checks is named Benkei-jima (from this famous folk hero) and was super popular during Edo period. It’s so great to see ancient pattern being updated!
Sally: So with a flu shot, you can expect soreness in your arm for a few hours.
Heero: Right.
Sally: The actual shot will only feel like a brief prick.
Heero: Okay.
Sally: So there shouldn’t be any reason to scream.
Duo: Well, excuse me for screaming when someone stabs a needle in my best friend!
Soothing earthy tones for this modern yukata depicting tsuta (ivy). I love the geometrical obi and the hôzuki (ground cherry) chosen to compliment this outfit!
ROBERT DOWNEY JR. IRON MAN 2 - dir. Jon Favreau
Chic and demure early autumn outfit, featuring a soothing grey summer weave kimono, paired with this amazing obi depicting a serene autumn scenery (with Chinese bellflowers up front, and in the back a garden with maple, clover, pampa grass, pinks…).
I received an anonymous ask wondering how to easily tell sha from ro weave appart. Ro fabrics have a kind of see-through ladder pattern as you can see below ;)
Back when Covid lockdowns first stared and I had to WFH, I decided to dress up for work to cheer myself up. I did a full week of yukata! Some of them were only put on for a few minutes before I had to dress in proper work clothes for meetings, but it was still fun! And I also got to try out new coordinates for old yukata, so that was great!
Sleek early autumn outfit, with a dynamic kimono paired with an obi depicting fiery ginkgo leaves over dewy grass.
One driver already quit and NASCAR responded with basically “we had to google you because nobody knew who the fuck you were”
Nascar started because they said fuck cops and its nice to see they havent lost their roots completely.
Soothing summer outfit, featuring a quiet yukata (worn like a kimono) with blooming asagao (morning glory), worn with lovely obi in hushed grey ombre.
Fantastic yuuzen dyed haori by Taiyoukyo titled “Wandering deep in the mountains”. The beautiful turning maple leaves pattern is drawn over a cherry blossoms woven ground, in a motif paring traditionally named unkin (=“cloud and brocade”).
