honestly re: law roach clip thats circulating rn - i respect someone who publicly displays ego and narcissism like that and openly admits that they have always wanted to be, and prefers being adored by the masses over romantic love. I feel like everyone just missed that part entirely or chose to rewrite his words in a way that suits popular discourse.
But the take of not wanting romantic love or being made for it is interesting too because there are some people who actually have never really thought about what love means to them in general or have not surpassed their idea of love being defined as simply a feeling.
Tbh a lot of people think this way except they are confusing idolization and worship for love and those are actually the most nefarious people you can be with imo. It goes for women too but ive seen this most with men.
Im gunna be so real and say ive dated some men who have these nasty behaviours of self loathing, vampiric energy sucking, listlessness who dont know how to get off of their asses and make a life for themselves and actual change and are comfortable repeating cycles even though they say they are not. They needed to be needed and adored. It didnt matter who it was, just as long as it was a warm body. Its almost like it was a compulsion for them and what they assumed was love actually was just self destruction that fueled their death drive. Except they are not explicitly chasing death literally but escaping existence because they are afraid of it . The gag is they were always either talking solo activities like sailing, being in the woods, or some activity that was basically self imposed exile and isolation from the world.
The bigger gag is that I dated them!!!! I cant point the finger and not point it back at myself because the truth is I ALSO WANTED TO BE IDOLIZED AND ADORED TOO!! I loved being Dr.Save-A-Man but they didnt actually wanna be saved!!
Its okay to own ur symptoms especially if you wanna transcend them and change. Whats beautiful about aging is that there is a transformation of our ideas of love. They have been challenged and shifted to a point where we are open and willing to negotiate sacrifice and have hardship with our partner. We chose the people we want to be with and as bell hooks brilliantly puts it as “walk in love” with until we just dont want to anymore and we dip. That to me is Eros and love and we all have the potential to have it unless you take Laws stance and say you are not meant for that - just dont go around and tell people that you want love.
Kung fu Panda 4 taught me its okay to change.

I still think if you want to broaden your taste musically you should do it by literally branching out. Take something you already like, look into it’s influences, and give those a try, find something you like then do that again and again and it’s infinite. Yes, by the nature of music in the 20th century this *will* eventually take you invariably outside your genre zone and national zone, if you’re willing to give it a try. (If you like Lady Gaga, she references Sun Ra on her first album and loves him, and from there you’re already a second away from so much music from Africa and Asia, let alone the entire jazz tradition…) Getting into music in a broad and general way is such a magical trip it’s indescribable. Look up the samples, check the wiki ask friends look up the references etc…
This!!! also check out the label that the artist is signed too. Would have never known about Dead Can Dance if I didnt check that they were signed to the same label as the Cocteau Twins
