“And aren’t you glad I did?” he kept his tone light and playful, pleased that it seemed that was brightening Alice’s mood a bit. He waited for her to stand before beginning the way out of the common room, “Any idea what you wanna make? Head baker should choose.”

‘ Of course I am, I am always happy when a Potter wants my assitance- especially you and James when it comes to baking.’ she jokes lightly and  wipes at her face as they walk towards the kitchens.’ Hmm, we could bake a cake? If you want. That’d probably last you a few days.’

“it’s fine,” james chirped, sounding a tad distracted as he carefully cracked open a couple of eggs; it was his idea to give muggle baking another go. everything went well on his first attempt, which was saying something. that gave him enough confidence to call alice and invite her to bake with him. so far, everything has been going rather smoothly. tossing the eggshells at the bin, “next, we have to put in the milk, i think—gotta mix these first together.” james moved to blindly grab at the spatula, “wait, where’s the flat spoon thingy?”

alice was thankful he didn’t look at her because it gave her to opportunity to pick up everything and wipe her tears like nothing happened. standing up and going by his side, she hands him the spatula that had been right by the bowl. ‘ mix them first together and then add the milk while you’re mixing, but like slowly, not the whole quantity at once.’ she offers the ideas as she sniffs her nose and goes to wash what she had dropped earlier.

alice has promised james she is going to bake cookies with him. despite her feeling down- she could never keep down a promise. and james was not like how valentino told her everyone is- she was sure of it, james was kind and he actually cared. or so she thought at least, so putting those feelings aside she listened to james’ instruction of baking the muggle way- but, lost in thought, all the cookie cutters fall to the ground as she was placing them on the table. her eyes water and she’s quick to lean down and pick them up with one hand, while her other hand held the box they fell from somehow in front of her face so he wouldn’t see the tears that fell down her cheeks. 

‘ sorry, sorry!’ she finally mumbles. ‘ promise i’ll wash them and we can pretend nothing happened. go on with the instructions, i am listening.’

she can’t lie, but lately it seemed like valentino wouldn’t want to talk to her as much, but of course alice never really let him spur away from her. she would always make sure he’s okay. ‘ hey, val!’ she greeted as she looked at him with a smile. ‘ you wanted to see me, right?’ she looked around- looked like there was no one around which was a little bit odd.’ anything i can help you with today?’

To say Piper had been on edge would be an understatement. She couldn’t seem to understand how other students could be carrying on normally. But when she saw Alice she realized that maybe she wasn’t alone. “Are you okay?” She asked, waiting a moment until she responded. “I just…wanted to know if you were okay. The news shook me…and I had a feeling I can’t be the only one who felt the same.” 

‘i-i am fine. it had been some shocking news though, can’t lie.’ the brunette nodded with a sigh.’ do you need something?anything i can do to help you?’

james laughs, looping his arms around her and squeezing her tightly, “don’t have to thank me, i figured you deserve some treats too. granted, it definitely won’t be as tasty as your cookies, but…” he looked at her hopefully, “maybe they’re okay enough?”

‘ you’re the best, james.’ she mumbles as she gives him another squeeze before she steps back and nods with a smile.’ just because you’ve done them makes them excellent. thank you, really. should we try one together?’ she asks as she opens the bag to take a cookie out.

She slowly raised her eyebrows, then gave a nod. It wasn’t the truth, but Kirsten wasn’t going to push it. “Alright, if you say so.” She took another bite of the muffin and wrapped it up. “Thanks for the food, I’ve potions in a few, so I’ll see you later then.” A smile pulled up at her lips, then she stepped away from the table and left.

alice looked at the other and sighed, nodding her head and honestly hated herself for not being able to speak up.

“i just meant everything with ezekiel,” he explained, shaking his head but obediently opening his notebook. “can we quiz each other? i always find that helps me figure out what parts i don’t understand.”

‘ quiz each other,yes.’ the girl replied with a nod as she went over to the notes.’ do you want to start, scorp? or do you want me to go first?’

Scorpius’ frown didn’t waver, and he was still watching Alice worriedly, despite pulling his own book and notes towards him. “Okay,” he said uncertainly. “But if you want to talk about everything going on, I’m here for you.”

‘ there’s nothing going on, what do you mean?’ she tapped her pen against her other hand with a nod. ‘ okay so..herbology notes?’

Kirsten happily pulled off a small piece of the muffin, though she couldn’t help but notice Alice still didn’t seem well. “If it’s not the food, then what’s up?”

‘ oh? nothing’s up besides the sky.’ alice replied quickly and goofily- as if she had thought of an answer in case someone would ask her. ‘ i promise you.’

“Alice, if you’re asking for assistance you’ve come to the perfect place,” he beamed. “An adequate one at the very least,” he assured. “I’ve never actually baked on my own, but I’ve helped my gran enough times that I can promise I won’t mess anything up.”

‘ you know that technically you came to me, right?’ alice asked with a hint on her face as she perked up a little bit, nodding her head and standing up. ‘ okay, let’s go then! ii am ready for a small ktichen adventure.’

“here,” james looked rather proud of himself as he handed alice a bag of dubious-looking cookies. “made ‘em myself the muggle way. have a taste. just a little thank you for those sweets y’gave me a few weeks ago.”

her eyes widened at first, then he handed her the bag of cookies and she couldn’t help but smile widely--despite his request, she makes sure to approach him and throw her arms around him in a small hug. ‘ thank you, thank you-- that was really thoughtful of you.’

Kirsten was too busy babbling about some nonsense to notice right away that Alice didn’t seem well. She had half a blueberry scone stuffed in her mouth when she turned her head back over to the girl. “I was just asking if you were gonna eat that,” she said, nodding towards the muffin on Alice’s plate. She paused a quick moment. “You alright? It’s not something you ate, is it? I hope it wasn’t one of the crab cakes, they look a little suspicious to me.”

alice looked over at kirsten and took a big breath of air, at first she didn’t want to respond- but, she sends the other a small and a shake of her head. ‘ no, i won’t eat it. have at it.’ she pulls the plate towards her.’have fun with it- and no, it’s not the food. don’t worry.’

“Biscuits,” he declared, tucking the textbook he was carrying under his arm. He had approached her with a question about homework, but he had fully intended on hanging around after doing anything other than schoolwork if she wasn’t busy. He skipped ahead a bit because Alice seemed like she could use the distraction. “I was going to see if there’s any leftover from dinner that I could snag. Want to join? I’ll make tea,” he added with a lighthearted smile.

alice wraps her arms around herself and she tightens the grip in order to calm herself down, a small smile appears on her lips as she nods at albus’ words- despite not knowing what was wrong, she appreciated that he didn’t ask for now; he knew she’d probably avoid anyway. ‘join? yeah, of course! i haven’t baked some in a while either.’

Scorpius had been wanted to review his herbology notes with someone, and he figured that Alice would be his best bet — since the Hufflepuffs and Slytherins shared that class together and her dad was the professor. “Oh I was just asking if you wanted to review together but — Alice, are you alright?” He asked, peering concernedly at her.

‘ what? review?’ alice gathered her thoughts and quickly nodded her head, throwing the other a smile. ‘ yeah, yeah- sure, of course! we can definetly review. i have it right here, with all the notes and everything.’ she rambled on and pulled her notebook out.

alice did not feel good- she felt her legs jitter as she looked down and she nodded at the words of the other, but she couldn’t concentrate. her thoughts were running wild- the fear she felt earlier was slowly coming back and as much as she tried to focus on something else, she couldn’t. ‘sorry-i’ she finally said, moving a hand through her hair.’-didn’t quiet get that, what did you need help with again?’

‘alice, im teasing you.” rory ate another one of the treats while leaning back into the chair. she really knew how to bake. he tore up half the cookie, took a giant bite, and then took another. “you really are one of the most genuine people i know.” rory meant it, and he was grateful for the box of sweets. “thanks for the sweets. the only gifts people tend to give me are excuses, bullshit, and annoyance.” he smiled at the girl. “how many of these did you make?”

she opened and closed her mouth then nodded. ‘ ooh, you were? sorry, sometimes i just do not realise, i guess.’ she smiled lightly, but felt a little emberreased. ‘ oh, well that- that doesn’t sound okay. i can give you cookies every week, would that help with your list?’ she asked carefully.’ oh, i made quiet a few boxes- i bake a lot and mostly because i want people to feel good here, i guess.’
