I've been away due to a busted computer, but I'm back now to ring in the new year with more KFB hits.
Bad Channels have an awesome self-titled LP out now. Good for fans of surfy, reverb-y pop. It relies on classic songwriting, rather than noise or effects. Good repeat value. You know what, this review says it better. As always, available at fine retailers and on the KFB Bandcamp.
"Loving It" by The Tuts Come February KFB will be releasing a single by The Tuts! In the meantime, check out this fun video of them at Glastonbury. You can also check out Harriet's other band, Colour Me Wednesday "Shut" single now on our Bandcamp.
Allison Crutchfield of the superb, Swearin' is releasing her excellent solo effort, Lean in to It. Here's a first listen and a positive review. It's up for pre-order now on the KFB bandcamp. On a personal note, I met Swearin' (and Allison) a couple years ago when I played at NYC Popfest and they were cool people and a fun live show.

Sorry about the crummy photo quality! Saturday I found this hit for $5.99 at Red Cat Records in Vancouver, where they have a full section dedicated to Kingfisher Bluez releases! Masahiro Takahashi collaborating with indiepop sweetheart, Rose Melberg (Tiger Trap, The Softies, Go Sailor ect.) on one track and with Tracey Vath (of Love Cuts) on another. So many solid tracks to cool your summer days. I had the pleasure of seeing Takahashi a few months ago just before the 7" came out and he played with great skill and genuine interest in the process of songwriting and collaboration, doing an impromtu set featuring members of Half Chinese. So if you're like me and need to take a break from repeated listens of Morrissey's new album, go for this! You can pick it up at the online store.

It's interesting to read a conversation unfold when you know both parties involved. In this case, Tim The Mute of KFB and Harley from Fallen Love. Both have interests in archiving scenes, DIY, and indiepop.
I’m still convinced that Kingfisher Bluez is underrated. The Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada based label has released singles from indiepop favorites Standard Fare, Colour Me Wednesday, and Rose Melberg, though they have an incredible back catalogue.
A personal favorite release of mine is actually from label founder Tim Clapp himself. Under the name Tim the Mute, Kingfisher Bluez released the Doctor Who Cosplay EP in the beginning of March. These songs are instantly charming in their super lo-fi and minimalistic way. They seem incredibly personal which makes them all the more endearing.
If you weren’t convinced by the fact that Tim wrote a song about dressing up as the Eleventh Doctor (with the cover art of this EP to prove it), then following Tim on Instragram (kingfisherbluez) only solidifies the fun-loving sense of humor he has. He references his love for trains in the title track of the EP and you can find several pictures of trains and mushy peas there.
Doctor Who Cosplay is the 3rd release from Tim the Mute. You can purchase it from the Kingfisher Bluez bandcamp page. However, I strongly suggest you browse all the other releases, as well. There are so many treasures to discover!

Two Hundred Grand by Sunshine
Have you heard Sunshine yet? It's about 30 degrees here today, and "Two Hundred Grand" was produced by ex-Morrissey drummer Woodie Taylor. As always, available for download now, or on limited 300 7" vinyl. The b-side reminds me of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. (Am I allowed to reference other bands as the sort-of-representative of this label?)
