âIt took me by surprise
The hatred in his eyes
I've pushed this man as far as he could go
But he lacked the words to let me know
He acted out, now I can see it is my faultâŚâ
Summary: Virgil's always been mean to Roman. It's how he is. But... What happens when his actions and words start to hurt?

Ch. 1 [Here] //
Virgil rubbed his eyes, yawning and observing the usual chaos going on in the kitchen. Nobody in the headspace could cook very well, and the only one who regularly tried was Patton. And⌠it never worked out very well. Fire and smoke filled the room, the smell of burnt bacon making it evident what caused it this time.
The first few times he was regularly coming up to see the light sides, the sight of this made him turn away and lock himself in his room. His anxiety couldnât handle a fire. What if it hurt somebody?! But now this was his normal.
He scanned the room. Patton and Logan were attempting to put out the fire, although it wasnât working. And Roman usually helped them put it out. Now⌠He sat at the counter and stared at them, tapping his foot and slouching in his seat. His clothes looked wrinkled and werenât his usual sparkling clean.Â
Virgil noticed heâd been declining, but he didnât think it got this bad. His clothes had been getting less and less pristine, and heâd gotten more and more tired. Heâd never been this⌠Clear about it, though. Always trying to act like everything was fine. Nothing was wrong, he was just getting lazy! No need to worry about him. Virgil worried. He worried a lot. He worried about everyone and everything that could possibly go wrong.
But⌠Virgil wasnât nice. He didnât worry to people. Heâd be annoying, or a bother, or a nuisance. It was better just to ignore it and hope it got better. [if you ask him if heâs okay, theyâll think youâre weak.]Â
âWhat do you think youâre doing, Sir Sings-a-lot? You look like trash,â Virgil sneered, walking over to the counter where Roman sat. âArenât you usually busy being all pretty~?â
Roman whipped around to Virgil and seemed to flinch . He looked horrible, like heâd never slept in his life. Dark circles under his eyes, messy hair, and a hollow expression. He sighed and opened his mouth to reply, but closed it seconds later and opted for just looking blankly at the emo.
âAlright, kiddos!â The dad side interrupted after finally putting out the fire. âI may have taken my baking abilities a bit too fire... But donât flame it on me,â He pointed at the stove. âThat thing needs to be replaced!âÂ
Logan cleared his throat. âActually, this oven is more than adequate. It is safe and effective. If Patton cannot cook on it, it is simply his lack of skill.â He said, waving away the clouds of smoke still around.
âHey!â
âWhat? I am just stating the facts.â
Roman groaned quietly in annoyance from the counter and got up, going upstairs without a word.
Pattonâs expression dropped to concern and he turned to Virgil. â...What happened to Roman? Is he okay?â He asked.Â
â...Iâm not sure. Heâs been like that for the past few days, I guess.âÂ
âOh.â
Virgil sighed. Roman had his ups and downs over the years, and even though Virgil and him didnât talk, he still knew. Thomas had a lack in creativity, in motivation, and couldnât do a lot of his favorite things properly until he was better. Remus was still there, but he couldnât handle it all on his own. He specializes in the weird and unusual, which doesnât work out when you need to act like a sane person. Thomas was nothing without Roman. Not like Virgil helped-- He just gave him anxiety about it. [What if you never get an acting job ever again? Your dreams are going to be ruined at this rate!]
What in the world was going on to make Creativity so...Upset? None of the sides had done anything to him. Hell, they were trying to be nicer. He was probably being overdramatic about some dumb shit.Â
Roman was overdramatic. That was his thing. Maybe it was just that. Virgil couldnât help but still worry. The usually bright green eyes were dulling, his carefully swept hair all spiked up.Â
There had to be something wrong. Something. Was it Remus, Janus... Or both? Oh, it probably was. The bastards were always up to something, something terrible. Virgil lived with them for years, heâd know! He remembered being chased around by an eleven year old Remus clutching a bat and laughing like a maniac after he caught Virgil sneaking in on him, or Janus carefully crafting his words to hurt him in the worst way possible when Virgil had--... It was terrible.Â
He'd confront them, yeah. See exactly what they were doing to his Roman.
