I know that most of y'all are tired of the discs, but they’re genuinely such an interesting macguffin to me. mostly because the person who wants them (c!tommy) was never the one to make them powerful. c!dream did that when he took them way back in the disc war to get an advantage over c!tommy. c!tommy wants them back because they’re his, not because they’re powerful. to c!tommy, they’re personal. to c!dream, they’re political. and as long as the discs are seen as important politically, he has leverage. 

the discs themselves aren’t important to c!tommy. the sentimental value is, and the power c!dream puts in them is. because as long as c!dream has the discs, he will never stop going after c!tommy and l’manburg, because he thinks he has the upper hand. getting back the discs isn’t about the discs themselves, it’s about knocking c!dream down a peg, taking him down for hurting them with an imaginary justification, forcing him to acknowledge he has no power over anyone so he stops trying. it’s about getting a win against a god.
